Chapter 98 This is too ugly!
Elodie was so pissed, she actually ran after them.
Normally, Elodie would never stoop so low.
But right now, she looked like someone who'd lost it.
She was seriously mad as she shouted, "You guys are always throwing shade with those snarky comments. It's like you're joined at the hip. Seriously, could you be any more uncultured?"
Juniper laughed when she heard that. Insulting her was one thing, but dragging Camilla into it? No way!
So she snapped back, "Shut up, you old witch!"
Elodie retorted, "What? Am I wrong? Camilla's been with my son for six years and hasn't gotten pregnant. Clearly, the issue's on her end! Your defensiveness is almost comical; feeling a tad guilty, huh?"
Juniper sneered, "Six years and no baby, how do you know it's not your son's problem? He's always in and out of the hospital, puffing away and hitting the bottle like there's no tomorrow. You should get your precious son checked out. If there's really something wrong, it could be a big deal!"
At this point, Juniper's eyes landed on Amara's belly.
Amara's face changed, and she quickly defended herself, "I've only ever had one boyfriend, Leopold. I would never do anything to betray him."
Mentioning Leopold made Elodie instantly agitated. "If you dare talk nonsense, I'll tear your mouth apart!"
Juniper wasn't scared at all. She immediately rolled up her sleeves. "Come on, let's see how it ends!"
Seeing the two about to throw down, Camilla quickly tried to calm Juniper down.
Amara was dumbfounded, wondering how things had escalated so quickly.
She stood aside, watching Elodie and Juniper start to push and shove each other. When Camilla approached, she suddenly cried out, "Ouch!"
Amara slid to the ground. "My belly! My belly hurts so much!"
Elodie instantly freaked out, letting go of Juniper. She immediately looked at Amara, afraid something might happen to her and the baby.
"Amara, are you okay? How are you feeling?"
Amara shook her head pitifully. "I'm okay. I just don't understand why Camilla would push me."
Then Elodie glared at Camilla. "You can't have a baby yourself, so you can't stand others having one? You're so vicious!"
Camilla was exasperated. She thought, 'Are they all crazy?'
She had seen Amara's actions clearly.
Afraid of actually hurting herself, Amara had protected her belly with one hand and braced herself with the other, absorbing all the impact.
It was a lackluster display, devoid of any real finesse. Utterly phony. Moreover, aside from a few contrived tears, Amara's face didn't even convey a believable hint of agony.
Camilla looked down at her and said calmly, "Since you said I pushed you, I might as well make it true."
With that, she reached out towards Amara.
Amara immediately leaned back, dodging. Seeing that Camilla wasn't joking, she instantly chickened out and uttered, "I was careless just now. It has nothing to do with Camilla. I'm fine now."
Elodie asked, "Are you sure? Maybe you should get checked out, just to be safe?"
After all, Amara was carrying Leopold's child!
Amara shook her head and whispered, "I'm really fine. I already got the test results. Let's go back."
The baby was her ticket into a wealthy family; there was no way she would gamble with it. But she couldn't resist the urge to disgust Camilla a little.
Elodie said, "For the sake of my grandson, I'll let it go this time! Amara, let's go."
Juniper sneered, "What a petty person."
"You shouldn't have stopped me." Juniper had only used a fraction of her strength. If it had come to a real fight, Elodie wouldn't have stood a chance.
Camilla thought of Amara's sour face as she left and chuckled, comforting Juniper, "Okay, okay, don't sweat it. They're just two nobodies. Not worth getting all riled up about."
Juniper nodded. "Exactly! But if it happens again, I won't hold back."
She thought, 'Camilla is gentle by nature, so I would handle it. I could fight.'
"Got it!" Camilla laughed. "You had a rough day. My treat, what do you want to eat?"
Juniper put her arm around Camilla's shoulder. "I've been waiting for you to say that! Let's go, I'll take you to some good food."
"Hmm? Shouldn't I be the one saying that?"
"It doesn't matter."
Sitting in the car, Elodie clutched the report, recalling the doctor's words about Amara's healthy pregnancy, unable to wipe the smile off her face.
Seeing her expression, Amara felt reassured. Today was her first time meeting Elodie.
When she was with Leopold, he never talked about his family. She only knew he came from a wealthy family and had a sister.
After Leopold unilaterally broke up with her, Amara tried every way to contact him.
But without exception, all her efforts were in vain.
Leopold's firm stance made Amara panic.
After some inquiries, she got Elodie's phone number and called, directly mentioning her pregnancy.
So far, Elodie seemed quite satisfied with her and the baby.
Before coming, she had thought about leaving a good impression on her future mother-in-law. She took a deep breath and took out a wrapped gift box.
With a sweet smile, looking very obedient, she said, "This is my gift for you. It's not something expensive. I hope you like it."
Elodie thought, 'At least she knew to prepare a gift, which was more considerate than Camilla.' Then she said, "That's thoughtful of you."
Opening it, Elodie paused.
She thought, 'Inside the beautifully wrapped blue gift box is just a scarf? And it's hand-knitted? It doesn't even look good, to be honest, it's quite bad.'
"Did you knit this yourself?"
Amara replied, "Yes, I did. Do you like it?"
Elodie couldn't bring herself to say she liked it.
Shutting the box, she mustered a smile, though inside, she felt a wave of disdain.
In her mind, she critiqued, 'It's so ugly! In the past, Camilla would at least send Hermes scarves during holidays. Though not very expensive, they were tasteful. I've never received something this ugly. And as far as I know, Leopold have given Amara a supplementary card. Amara isn't short on money, yet she uses this trash to fool me?'
"Don't you like it?" Amara asked cautiously. "I always thought that handmade gifts showed more sincerity."
It was her first time meeting the family, and she thought nothing would be better than something she made herself, so she knitted the scarf.
But judging by Elodie's expression, she didn't seem to like it.
Elodie, thinking of the baby, could only force herself to compliment, "Yeah, you're right. Handmade gifts are more sincere. I'm happy to see it."
Amara finally felt relieved. "If you like it, I'll knit you one every year."
Elodie was silent. One was enough for her; any more and she wouldn't be able to maintain the facade.
