Chapter 156 Wronged!
As soon as Aurora finished talking, a tall guy stepped out from inside.
Camilla was floored.
Aurora chimed in, "Hey, let me introduce you. This is Felix's star student, Marcus Davis."
Marcus gave a small smile and reached out to shake Camilla's hand. "Nice to meet you."
"You're Felix's student?" Camilla was shocked.
"Why? Do I not look the part?"
"Not really."
Aurora's eyes darted between them. "Wait, you two know each other?"
Marcus nodded. "Yeah, we do."
He thought, 'And we've known each other for ages.'
"Awesome, since you guys are friends, why not stay for dinner tonight?"
Marcus said, "Thanks, Professor Garcia."
Camilla was planning to stick around for dinner anyway.
The housekeeper set up a table loaded with food, including two of Camilla's favorite dishes.
Whether on purpose or not, Marcus made sure Camilla sat closest to those dishes and took a seat off to the side.
Aurora noticed and raised an eyebrow.
Camilla thought it was just a coincidence and didn't think much of it, 'The housekeeper is so thoughtful, even made my favorite dishes!'
"How old are you, Marcus?" Aurora suddenly asked.
Marcus replied, "I'm 28."
"Running your own investment company at 28, that's impressive."
Marcus waved it off. "You're flattering me. The company got started with my family's help, and it's only recently that it's been doing well. Compared to businessmen and investors, I admire scholars like you and Felix more, who dive into experiments day after day, year after year, dealing with the loneliness and monotony, dedicating your lives to the truth of science and academic mysteries."
Aurora said, "For those who love research, this kind of life isn't lonely or monotonous. Right, Camilla?"
"Yeah." Camilla nodded.
No office politics, no societal drama, the lab was pure and simple, which was really comfortable.
At least for her and Aurora, it was.
Marcus realized. "I guess I'm still shallow. No wonder Felix says I'm too vulgar to be an academic."
Aurora laughed. "Hahaha! Did Felix really say that?"
"Yeah." Marcus nodded, "He said it right in front of me and my parents."
"Hahaha, that sounds just like Felix."
Marcus was smooth with his words, highly emotionally intelligent, and even his compliments were spot on, very skillful.
He had Aurora laughing heartily.
After dinner, Camilla offered to help clean up the dishes.
Marcus surprisingly rolled up his sleeves and joined her in the kitchen.
Camilla was a bit taken aback. Even though they had known each other for years, they weren't super close, and she had never heard that he would step into a kitchen.
"Why the look? Is it weird?" Marcus said while dumping the leftovers into the trash.
Camilla said, "A bit."
Marcus chuckled. "Do you think I'm that useless?"
Camilla spoke honestly. "I used to."
Leopold wouldn't step into a kitchen, so anyone who hung out with him probably wouldn't be much better.
Marcus seemed to read her mind and exclaimed, "That's unfair! You're wronging me!"
The two of them cleaned up the kitchen together. Although Marcus tried to prove he wasn't useless, he failed.
He wasn't very good at it.
His movements were all over the place, and the real kicker was that he squirted dish soap on every single bowl and plate. Under Camilla's speechless stare, he innocently asked, "Isn't this how you do it?"
Camilla just stood there, silent.
"If you don't mind, you could show me how it's done." Marcus coughed, "When I was abroad, I usually only used one or two plates when cooking for myself, so I would just squirt a bit on each plate."
"Actually, there's no one right way to wash dishes, and there's no single way to use dish soap. Everyone has their own method, as long as the dishes end up clean."
Camilla changed her tone, "But you can squirt some into the water, mix it up, then use a cloth to wash, and finally rinse with clean water, let them dry, and then put them away."
"Is that so?" Marcus listened and followed her instructions.
Just as he was about to mix the dish soap, Camilla suddenly spoke up. "Wait!"
Marcus looked puzzled.
"Use hot water."
"Oh, got it!"
After cleaning up, they hung around for a bit. Seeing it was getting late, they said goodbye to Aurora.
Marcus asked, "I drove here, need a ride?"
By this time, the subway had already stopped running.
Camilla didn't refuse, "Thanks, Mr. Davis."
They got in the car.
Marcus said, "If possible, I'd prefer you call me Marcus."
"Okay, Mr. Davis."
"You're doing this on purpose?"
Camilla looked innocent. "I'm used to it, can't change it."
"Fine, call me whatever you want."
Anyway, one day, he would make her willingly change it.
Half an hour later, the car pulled up near Harmony College.
Camilla said, "Just drop me off at the entrance of Harmony College."
"Not going back to your place?"
"Heading to the lab, I haven't gotten the final data from my set of experiments yet, need to work overtime."
"Alright."
Marcus didn't ask more and stopped at the school gate.
Camilla got out of the car and thanked him again.
Marcus waved his hand. "Go ahead, be careful on the way."
"Okay."
When Camilla arrived at the lab, it was already 10 PM.
By the time the data had been processed, compiled, and the lab bench cleaned up, it was almost midnight.
She turned off the lights, checked all the power sources, and then locked the door and left.
Imperial City had entered the rainy season before summer, and it had been drizzling since the day before yesterday.
Under the dim yellow streetlights, she could see the rain.
Because it was so late, the entire street was almost empty, with only occasional cars passing by.
The already deep night made it even more eerie.
Camilla opened her umbrella and walked into the rain. The surroundings were so quiet that she could only hear her own footsteps.
Halfway through, the night wind mixed with fine rain suddenly became fierce, and a stray cat's shrill cry came from the corner.
Camilla was startled, her hand shook, and the umbrella almost got blown away.
Fortunately, she grabbed it in time, but in that moment, half of her body got wet from the rain.
Suddenly, she heard footsteps behind her.
It sounded like men's dress shoes hitting the asphalt.
Camilla didn't think much of it at first, but soon she realized that when she sped up, the footsteps behind her quickened, and when she slowed down, the footsteps also slowed.
She thought, 'So someone is following me!'
