Chapter 79 Pretending to Be Rich?
Alistair asked, "Whoa, how did we end up here?"
Just as Camilla was about to spill the beans, the sales rep, Leah, rolled up with a big grin. "Hey there! We've got all kinds of floor plans, whether you're a newbie buyer or looking to upgrade."
Camilla said, "We'll just take a peek first."
"This is our model layout. You can see our whole Phase III plan is super convenient, with supermarkets, schools, and hospitals nearby. The amenities are top-notch."
Camilla gave the model a once-over. "The buildings seem kinda squished together."
"Yeah, they gotta be. These are high-rises, so the spacing's tighter."
"I heard you got a villa area?"
Stardust Enclave had two types of housing: regular apartments, which Camilla was checking out, and standalone small villas.
They called them "small" villas 'cause they were just two stories high, not super big, but they had a front yard and a backyard.
Perfect for small families.
These were designed for small families, giving enough space without feeling empty, making Stardust Enclave a hot spot in Starlight City.
Camilla had done her homework. "I'd like to see the Stardust Enclave Villas."
Alistair was into gardening, so the house needed a big yard.
Bella loved reading and writing outside, so a quiet backyard with a gazebo would be perfect for her to chill and have tea.
Leah, hearing Camilla ask about the villas and knowing the name, realized she had done her research.
She quickly sized up Camilla. Even though she was bare-faced, she was pretty. Her clothes didn't scream designer, and she wasn't carrying a fancy bag.
From her look, it was hard to tell if she could afford it.
But that face didn't look like it belonged to someone broke.
"Camilla, what are you talking about?" Alistair quickly pulled her aside. "Why are you asking about villas? She might think we're serious buyers!"
Camilla turned to Alistair, "Dad, what do you think of this place?"
"It's awesome. A bunch of my colleagues bought high-rises here."
This place was so close to Maplewood High School. Just cross the street, and it was a five-minute walk.
But the prices were insane!
Since it was fully furnished and in a prime spot, the price was double that of other high-rise communities.
"Why don't we buy one too?" Camilla said, dropping a bombshell.
Alistair's eyes nearly popped out. "Don't joke around. What if the staff takes it seriously and we can't follow through?"
Bella nodded. "We're just browsing. Let's not waste their time."
Alistair agreed. "Exactly, let's bounce."
Their whispered convo, though quiet, was still picked up by Leah.
Her smile faded.
She thought, 'So they were just window shopping!
'That middle-aged couple looked like penny-pinchers. No way they have the cash.
'They can't afford a villa.'
Camilla gave Alistair and Bella a reassuring look, walked up to the model, and said straight up, "Can we see the villas?"
Leah smiled slightly. "Sorry, our standalone small villas are only for VIP clients."
Camilla knew the drill with these high-end places. "So, what's the deal for VIP clients?"
"First off, you gotta be eligible to buy a house in Starlight City. That's the basic. Then, you need at least twenty million bucks in liquid assets or a black card from a bank. You can also show other property certificates to prove you've got the dough."
Camilla had the cash, the deposits, and a black card.
While she was figuring out which one to flash, Alistair grabbed her arm and started pulling her out.
As they walked, Alistair grumbled, "This is nuts. Twenty million dollars in liquid assets? We're not in some TV drama."
Bella muttered under her breath, "I wouldn't even dare write this in my novels, and here you are asking. You've gotten gutsy over the years."
She turned and gave Leah an apologetic smile. "Sorry for wasting your time."
Leah didn't even bother hiding her annoyance and rolled her eyes.
"Where did these yokels come from? Can't afford a villa but act all high and mighty. Are they nuts?"
Bella was taken aback, and Alistair's face turned sour.
But since they were in the wrong, they felt too embarrassed to argue and kept apologizing.
Seeing this, Leah got even more relentless. "You think you can buy a villa? You probably can't even afford a bathroom in a high-rise! It takes all kinds. So annoying!"
She was already having a bad day and thought she had a big client, only to find out it was three broke folks!
She thought, 'So frustrating.'
Bella frowned. "We might've been wrong, but isn't your way of talking a bit too harsh? The customer is always right, after all."
"If you don't like it, don't come in! You call yourselves customer? If you can't afford it, stop wasting our time. My time is precious, not for you to waste!"
"How do you know we can't afford it?" Camilla's brow furrowed. "Watch your mouth."
"You think you can afford it just because you say so? I could say I'm a billionaire too. Talk is cheap."
Camilla sneered. "Even if I could afford it, I wouldn't buy from someone like you."
"Oh, then come back when you can afford it."
She was disdainful, convinced that someone like Camilla, who looked so poor, didn't have much money. She was just talking big, pretending to be rich.
She saw people like this every day.
"Fine." Camilla nodded, looked around, and suddenly focused on a spot.
Camilla walked past Leah and approached another staff member, Mia. "Are you a staff member here?"
Mia, who seemed new to the job, still had a bit of innocence on her face. She was holding a tray and was stunned by Camilla's question, then nodded.
"Yeah, I am. How can I help you?"
"Can you show us the Stardust Enclave Villas?"
Mia bit her lip, clearly a bit troubled. "We have a policy that requires proof of funds to view the villas."
"I know," Camilla nodded, pulling a black card from her down jacket pocket and handing it to her. "Will this do?"
Mia was surprised, then nodded frantically. "Of course! Please follow me."
"Wait!" Leah suddenly spoke up, walking over in her high heels and pointing at the black card on the tray. "Could it be fake?"
