Chapter 258 Enduring Memories

Cordelia looked at the disconnected phone, furious, and flipped the tray in front of her, causing the freshly stewed soup to spill and the porcelain bowl to shatter on the floor with a crisp sound. Seeing this, the servants collectively panicked.

"Get out!" Cordelia pointed to the door, her well-maintained face showing a rare ferocity.

Then the servants filed out.

Cordelia stepped back and collapsed onto the sofa, her chest heaving violently.

Over the years, she had been trying to repair her relationships with Elijah and Isadora. While Elijah had gradually moved from cold blame to a more calm, albeit distant, demeanor, Isadora remained aloof, silently blaming her and never showing any kindness.

"Mr. Davis is back." The butler's voice came from outside the door, followed by the sound of approaching footsteps.

Kieran Davis had just stepped into the house when he saw the mess. His expression remained unchanged as he glanced indifferently at the still-angry Cordelia on the sofa. He said nothing and went straight upstairs.

Seeing him ignore her, Cordelia couldn't help but stand up. "Aren't you going to ask why I'm angry?"

Kieran turned away, loosening his cufflinks with disinterest. "As long as you're done venting," he said. Things could always be replaced, and messes could be cleaned.

His constant indifference drove her to an emotional outburst. "Kieran, I'm your wife! Can't you pay attention to me for once?!" she cried.

Kieran raised an eyebrow. "It's been like this for years. What's gotten into you today?"

Cordelia was silent.

"By the way, I am busy tonight, so I won't be back for dinner." With that, Kieran prepared to go upstairs to change clothes.

Cordelia caught up to him. "I just found out from someone else that my parents have been back in the country for a week, but Marcus knew and deliberately kept it from me!"

If she hadn't heard it by chance, she would still be in the dark.

Thinking about how they were always on the same side, Cordelia hesitated and asked tentatively, "Did you know about this?"

Kieran replied calmly, "Yes. I even had dinner with them a few days ago."

The anger that had not yet subsided in Cordelia flared up again. "You knew my parents were back?"

Kieran retorted, "Is there a problem?"

"YWhy didn't you tell me? I was the only one left out. What am I? I'm not even as good as a servant in the old house!"

Kieran frowned. He seemed to not understand why she was so angry. "First of all, no one knew you were unaware they were back. Secondly, as you mentioned, even the servants knew. Have you ever considered why you didn't?"

Cordelia completely exploded.  "Are you saying that my parents hate me, that it's all my fault and I deserve it? Neither of you stands by my side or thinks about me. You deliberately left me out and had dinner with them alone. Do you think that's appropriate?"

Kieran looked at her hysterical state calmly, with no emotion in his eyes. "They are my in-laws. What's inappropriate about having dinner with them?"

"In-laws? Yes, no matter which daughter you marry, they are your in-laws, right?"

Kieran's brow furrowed. "I don't understand what you're saying."

"Don't understand or pretending not to? Isn't it true? You're so good to my parents, you visit them abroad every year, but you never take me."

Cordelia enunciated each word. "Kieran, who are you really being filial to?"

Kieran's face was blank. "Don't you know why don't I take you?"

"You're all blaming me because Ella got lost when we went out together, right? You all wish I hadn't come back and died with her!"

"Shut up!" Kieran's expression turned cold, and his eyes suddenly became sharp.

"Haha, it's been twenty-eight years. Do you really think she's still alive? My parents won't give up, and I'm not surprised. Ella was their treasure. How can they live without holding onto hope? But I never expected that you would also be so obsessed! We've been married for over twenty years, Marcus is almost ready to start his own family, and you're still thinking about her? Isn't that ridiculous?"

Kieran slapped Cordelia with such speed and precision that she had no chance to dodge. His veins bulged, his entire demeanor radiated coldness, and his gaze was utterly merciless. "This is my last warning to you. If you can't speak properly, then keep your mouth shut." With that, he didn't even bother to change his clothes and left in large strides.

Cordelia shouted at his back, "Kieran, you heartless man!" She thought, 'Why is it that after more than twenty years, they still think about Ella? Is it just because Ella is their biological daughter and she is adopted?'

On the other side, Marcus followed Elijah and Isadora through the yard and out a small door, ending up directly on the street.

Marcus was surprised. "I've been here so many times, and I didn't know there was a door here!"

Elijah laughed. "Your aunt used to love sneaking out through here, thinking we didn't know. But we had discovered it long ago, just never exposed her!"

The door was hidden deep in the bamboo forest, covered by thick banana leaves.

Hearing this, Isadora recalled the past, and a smile slowly appeared on her lips.

Elijah looked at the long alley, which hadn't changed much from his memory. It was still narrow and long, with the sky above divided by the walls, a long strip of blue and white. "Other places have changed more or less, but this place hasn't changed at all."

Marcus said, "Dad and I bought the three streets near the garden. We don't plan to develop them further; keeping them as they are is perfect."

This way, Ella wouldn't have gotten lost on her way home.

Isadora was touched. "Your dad has been thoughtful all these years."

Marcus changed the subject. "The street ahead has changed a lot. Since we're here, let me take you for a walk."

Elijah and Isadora naturally nodded in agreement.

They walked to a street where a long line had formed outside a dessert shop.

Isadora squinted, trying to see clearly. "Is this Sugar Rush Bakery?"

"Yes! It's been here all these years and has become a popular spot."

"Ella loved their macarons!"

Marcus said, "You two sit here for a while, I'll go stand in line."

After walking for so long, Elijah and Isadora were a bit tired, so they didn't refuse. They went into the nearby coffee shop, which had water and provided chairs for visitors to rest.

Marcus stood at the end of the line. At the current pace, it would take about ten minutes.

Suddenly, he heard a familiar voice. "Marcus?"

Looking up, he saw Camilla waving at him from the front of the line. "It really is you! I thought I was mistaken. Even the CEO has to stand in line for desserts?"

Marcus smiled. "What are you doing here?"

"Taking my parents to visit the Langley Estate."

"Where are they?" Marcus looked around but didn't see Bella and Alistair.

"They got tired of walking and went to the coffee shop next door to rest. I'm standing in line."
