Chapter 126 Tea-Tasting Event
Camilla grinned, "That long dress is way too formal. I think something more laid-back might be a nice surprise."
Elodie's face soured, but with so many people around, she had to keep her cool and swallow her anger.
Amara bit her lip, totally shocked that Camilla had one-upped her.
Cynthia noticed their reactions and smirked, "Some people really can't tell the difference between trash and treasure. It's hilarious!"
"Alright, pack up these two outfits. I'm taking both," she told the sales assistant.
"Sure, just a moment," the sales assistant replied, smiling as she went to handle the payment.
"Camilla, let's bounce. Let's hit up some other stores."
"Okay."
After Cynthia and Camilla left, Elodie looked at her own clothes, wishing she could rip them off and stomp on them right there.
Thinking about standing next to Cynthia earlier and feeling like a total loser, she couldn't hold back anymore and snapped at Amara, "You're such bad luck! What else can you do besides embarrass me? You can't even pick out a decent outfit. How can you be so dumb?!"
Amara clutched her stomach, looking pitiful, "Ever since I got pregnant, I haven't had the same energy. Leopold was out late last night for a social event, and I stayed up all night to take care of him, so my mind's a bit foggy. I'm sorry I didn't meet your expectations."
Elodie glanced at her stomach, took a deep breath, and reminded herself it was her grandchild, barely managing to keep her anger in check.
But she still found Amara annoying in every way.
"Fine, for the sake of the baby, I'll let it slide this time. But your taste is awful! If you don't step up your game, how can you fit into high society? If you embarrass me in public, it's my reputation on the line!"
Amara's eyes lit up for a moment. She thought, 'Does this mean the Wipere family is letting me in?'
She quickly responded, "I'll work hard."
Elodie pursed her lips, thought for a moment, and pulled an invitation out of her bag. "Talk is cheap. If you want to improve your taste, you need to see and experience more. This is an invite to a tea-tasting event in the socialite circle. Come with me tomorrow."
A tea-tasting event—just like it sounds, it's a gathering to taste and chat about tea.
Men's circles often center around drinks and fancy cars, while women's circles tend to revolve around luxury items and sometimes cultural activities.
Lately, tea culture has become super popular, and naturally, the socialite circle's conversations have followed suit.
They used to have dessert gatherings, but now it's mostly tea parties, sometimes with a bit of card playing.
People who go to these tea-tasting events might not even like tea, but they need to know enough to hold a conversation.
Elodie didn't want another awkward situation like today, but she didn't expect to turn Amara into a socialite overnight. She just wanted her to see and learn.
"Tea-tasting events aren't for just anyone. Prepare well, and don't embarrass me this time!"
Amara looked at the invitation and promised, "Don't worry, I'll do my homework and make sure I don't embarrass you."
"You better!"
As they left the mall, Cynthia smiled and said, "Thanks for today, Camilla. It was fun shopping with you."
"No problem. I had a great time too."
Camilla had scored some good finds herself.
"Oh, by the way, I might need a favor," Cynthia said, looking all cute and pleading.
"What's up?"
"Well, I've organized a tea-tasting event where everyone gathers to drink tea, chat, and discuss tea art."
The original instructor, a famous tea artist, had to cancel last minute due to a sudden illness and was in the hospital in critical condition.
"The event is tomorrow, and I couldn't find a replacement on such short notice. But I remembered Juniper mentioning you know a lot about tea and are good at brewing it."
Cynthia continued, "So I was wondering if you could step in, talk about tea culture, and maybe show some tea-brewing techniques."
This event was her baby, and without a tea artist, she'd be the laughingstock.
Cynthia hadn't seen Camilla's tea skills herself, but based on what Juniper had said, as long as she could talk about tea and brew some, it would be fine.
Cynthia didn't expect Camilla to be a master.
"I see," Camilla thought for a couple of seconds, seeing Cynthia's hopeful eyes, and softened, "Alright, send me the address."
"Thank you, Camilla! You're a lifesaver!"
That evening, Camilla asked Sebastian for leave.
When Sebastian asked why, she explained about the tea-tasting event.
He also asked for the address.
Camilla shared it directly.
Sebastian saw it was at a hotel about 5 miles from the lab and asked about the end time, which was 5 PM.
"Traffic is bad during rush hour. I have an academic seminar nearby tomorrow, ending around the same time. I can pick you up."
"Thanks, that would be great."
The next day, the tea-tasting event went as planned.
Most of the prominent socialites attended, mainly out of respect for Cynthia.
The Russell family members, especially the leading figures in the circle, naturally had significant influence.
Although it was a tea art class, for them, it was another kind of social arena.
Before it officially started, people gathered in small groups, chatting about gossip or the latest luxury brand releases and whether they had gotten their hands on them.
As the organizer, Cynthia was naturally very busy.
"Hey, Mrs. Russell, you're here too!" A socialite's surprised voice rang out.
Cynthia instinctively looked towards the entrance and then smiled, "Paloma, you're here. Please come in."
Paloma Dixon, Cedric Russell's wife, and the current rightful lady of the Russell family.
Cynthia's husband, Rupert Russell, was Cedric's younger brother.
So they were sisters-in-law.
But their relationship was... complicated.
Paloma entered, looked around, and frowned, "Why did you choose this place?"
Cynthia knew Paloma was picky and explained with a smile, "There's a hot spring in the back, so I thought we could enjoy a soak after tea."
Paloma snorted, "You really know how to put on airs."
