Chapter 19 How Long Are You Gonna Stay Mad?
Soon enough, she was the last one standing in that creepy space.
Lucky for her, once the alarm blared, the lights got a bit brighter. Just a few steps ahead, there was a guide map.
Camilla caught the noise of a rowdy crowd not too far off.
She frowned, glancing that way; looked like the exit was jam-packed.
Just as she was debating whether to push through, another wave of people came from behind, leaving her no room to back out.
She had no clue who shoved her to the side or who stomped on her foot. By the time she realized it, she was squished against the rough wall, her chest pinned, making her gasp in pain.
Out of nowhere, she felt someone staring at her and instinctively looked up, locking eyes with Leopold.
Leopold saw the messy state Camilla was in, feeling a mix of pity and anger.
So it was her. That "Camilla" he heard earlier wasn't just in his head.
But then he thought, 'She still had the nerve to play in a haunted house. Guess she's doing just fine after our breakup.'
"Leopold?" Amara nervously shook his arm, her eyes showing a hint of wariness as she looked at Camilla.
Camilla lowered her eyes, clearly not wanting to deal with the two of them. She squeezed back into the crowd, aiming to follow everyone out.
The crowd surged, the lights flickered, and someone screamed. The next second, a suspended wooden sword wobbled dangerously, right above Camilla!
"Watch out!" Leopold, acting purely on instinct, shook off Amara's arm, pushed through the crowd, and yanked Camilla to safety.
The wooden sword crashed down with a loud thud.
Everyone gasped. The sword was actually made of iron, just painted to look like wood.
If it had hit someone, it would've been bad news.
Camilla, still shaken, felt a slight grip on her palm and realized Leopold was still holding her hand.
Before Leopold could react, Camilla pulled her hand away.
She stood up, leaning against the wall. "Thanks."
Seeing her distant expression, Leopold's eyes darkened a bit.
"Is 'thanks' all you got for me?"
Camilla looked at him, puzzled.
What else was there to say between them?
"Why'd you block me?" Leopold took a step closer, his voice low and rough.
Camilla was caught off guard.
They had blocked each other during fights before, but she was always the one to apologize first and add him back.
But this time, he might be out of luck.
Camilla slightly curled her lips. "Isn't it normal to delete an ex after a breakup?"
Leopold was taken aback, frowning. "So when are you gonna add me back?"
Camilla's eyelashes fluttered as she softly said, "I don't think I will."
Seeing her downcast look, Leopold felt a surge of irritation.
"How long are you gonna stay mad? Don't test my patience."
Camilla's smile was sarcastic.
The crowd surged again, separating them.
Leopold tried to reach for Camilla's hand again, but the next second, someone grabbed his arm.
Not far away, Amara saw this and felt a surge of jealousy. She pushed through the crowd to Leopold's side and clung to him.
"Baby, let's go. It's so dark and scary here. I almost fell earlier and couldn't find you. I was scared. Don't leave me, okay?"
Amara's voice was trembling, her expression fearful, evoking sympathy.
Just then, a staff member's voice boomed from the entrance, "The malfunction's fixed. Please line up nicely to exit."
With someone taking charge, the chaos died down quick.
Camilla didn't waste any time and made a beeline for the exit.
Leopold shook off Amara and trailed after her.
Amara gritted her teeth. "Leopold, wait up!"
At the ticket checkpoint, Juniper had already come out. Hearing about the malfunction and the near-fire, she remembered Camilla was still inside. If not for someone stopping her, she would've rushed in.
Luckily, in less than half an hour, Camilla emerged safe and sound.
Juniper hurried over. "Are you okay? I nearly had a heart attack when I heard the alarm."
"I'm fine. Let's just go home."
After a whole day of fun, she was beat.
Juniper nodded. "Alright, let's... huh? Isn't that Leopold?"
Before she could finish, Leopold and Amara came out one after the other.
"How do we keep running into him even when we're out having fun?"
Camilla glanced over and then looked away. "Don't stress. It's just a coincidence. Let's go."
On the way back, Juniper got all riled up and suddenly turned the car around.
Camilla was puzzled. "Aren't we going home?"
"I changed my mind. He's just a guy. Come on, I'll show you!"
Camilla was confused.
At 8 PM, the nightlife was just kicking off.
Camilla, like a puppet, was dragged by Juniper into a noisy bar.
The smell of smoke mixed with perfume, the lights flashing red and green, and people milling around everywhere.
Camilla, dressed casually, stuck out like a sore thumb.
On stage, a spotlight shone on a female singer crooning a ballad.
Juniper dragged her to a private room on the second floor and ordered a bottle of whiskey. Camilla, not used to it, asked for a cocktail.
Still, her face turned blushed.
Camilla brushed the backs of her hands across her cheeks,, feeling a bit hot. "Juniper, I'm gonna hit the restroom."
Juniper waved her off. "Okay, hurry back."
Coming out of the restroom, she unexpectedly ran into Marcus.
Among Leopold's friends, she was more familiar with Oliver and had little interaction with Marcus.
So at this moment, Camilla only greeted him out of politeness. "What a coincidence."
Marcus had come with a few friends for drinks and was surprised to see her.
"Are you alone?" He took a closer look at Camilla's blushed cheeks as he spoke.
"No, I'm with a friend."
"Leopold?"
Camilla's smile faded a bit. "No. Enjoy your night. I'm out."
"Camilla." Suddenly, Marcus called out to her.
"Anything else?"
"Is it true that you and Leopold broke up?"
Camilla retorted, "Is there such a thing as a fake breakup?"
Marcus's gaze deepened. After a moment, he nodded. "Got it."
As Camilla turned to leave, he somehow raised his phone and snapped a pic of her back.
Then, he opened Facebook, found their group chat, and hit send: [Guess who I ran into]
Oliver messaged: [Camilla? No way?]
Simon replied: [At a bar?]
Oliver replied: [What do you think? It's the one we always go to.]
Marcus asked: [Why aren't you saying anything? @Leopold]
