Chapter 147 Just a Little?
After breakfast, Camilla got to cleaning.
The place hadn't been touched in half a month, and the dust was everywhere.
The whole morning flew by just like that.
After a quick nap, she was about to head out for groceries when her phone rang just as she changed clothes. It was Juniper.
"Camilla, you home?"
"Yeah, what's up?"
"I suddenly feel like eating your cooking."
Camilla knew Juniper well enough to sense something was off. "What's going on? Everything okay?"
"No, I just miss you. Haven't seen you in a while." Juniper's voice sounded muffled.
Camilla paused, then said, "Come over, I'll cook for you."
"Great! I'll be there in forty minutes!"
Camilla rushed out to grab groceries, and just as she got back, Juniper showed up.
As soon as she walked in, she clung to Camilla. "You're the best, you got all my favorite foods."
Camilla sensed some resentment and figured it had to do with Cynthia. "Alright, sit tight. I'll start cooking. It won't take long."
"Okay!" Juniper nodded like a well-behaved student.
Fifty minutes later, the table was set with all of Juniper's favorite dishes.
Juniper asked, "Camilla, got any booze? Let's have a drink."
"There's beer in the fridge. Want some?"
"Yes!"
Juniper didn't have work tomorrow, and Camilla had two days off.
They barely touched the food but drank a lot.
Even though beer's not that strong, Juniper kept downing one can after another.
By the end, her cheeks were flushed, and her eyes were hazy. As it got late, she still wasn't stopping, and Camilla started to get a headache.
"Where's the beer? It's gone again. I'll grab two more cans!"
Juniper stood up and wobbled towards the fridge, almost tripping. Camilla quickly caught her. "Careful! You might fall!"
Juniper pouted, "Camilla, don't you trust my tolerance? It's just a few cans. I'm not that drunk. I just tripped."
Camilla muttered, "No drunk person ever admits they're drunk."
Juniper's ears perked up. "If you don't believe me, I'll drink a few more cans to show you!"
"We're out of beer."
"That's easy, let's go buy some!" Juniper grabbed her coat and headed for the door, then paused. "Wait, we can't. We've been drinking. We can't drive. We need someone to drive us."
Camilla found it funny that Juniper remembered that.
Juniper pulled out her phone and dialed.
The phone rang twice before someone picked up.
"Hello? I'm at Camilla's place! Come pick me up, I need to buy some beer!"
There was a brief silence on the other end. "Where did you say you are?"
Juniper recognized the voice but couldn't place it.
Then the voice said, "Open the door."
Juniper frowned. "I'm not opening it just because you said so."
Camilla was stunned that Juniper actually made the call so quickly.
The next second, there was a knock on the door.
Camilla opened it to find Sebastian standing there, phone still to his ear.
Camilla stayed quiet, thinking, 'Is Juniper doing this on purpose? How else could she have called Sebastian so accurately? Anyone else wouldn't have shown up this fast!'
Ten minutes later, Camilla got Juniper settled in and quietly left the room, closing the door behind her. She turned around to see Sebastian sitting on the living room sofa, his eyes on the pile of beer bottles that hadn't been cleaned up.
"Did she drink all of these by herself?" Sebastian's voice wasn't harsh, but Camilla felt an odd pressure.
She told the truth, "I had a little too."
"Just a little?" Sebastian looked at her intently, his gaze piercing.
Camilla gave up, "Two bottles shouldn't be too much, right? But I'm really not drunk."
Juniper got drunk partly because of her mood, trying to drown her sorrows, and partly because she had also opened a bottle of wine from the cabinet, mixing the two drinks, which had a stronger effect.
Sebastian seemed a bit troubled, "You sit here, I'll clean up the table."
Probably because of the alcohol, Camilla's reaction was a bit slow. Hearing him say that, she didn't react immediately.
When she came to her senses, she saw Sebastian had already rolled up his sleeves and was skillfully cleaning up.
She was stunned for a moment, then chose to obediently sit on the sofa.
By the time Sebastian finished cleaning, it was already 9 PM.
He said, "Wait for me, I'll take out the trash."
As he opened the door, Camilla stood up too, "I'll go with you, I want to get some fresh air."
Sebastian glanced at her, "Put on a coat."
"Oh, okay!"
In the dimly lit hallway, Sebastian walked ahead, with Camilla two steps behind.
Sebastian's tall figure cast a long shadow on the floor under the side light, and Camilla walked along his shadow.
"In the afternoon, my aunt Cynthia called me." Suddenly, Sebastian broke the silence.
"Was it about the blind date?"
Juniper had complained about it before, so Camilla guessed it might be related.
Sebastian responded with a hum.
When they reached downstairs, they threw out the trash and walked side by side, not heading home but following the streetlights.
Sebastian said, "With the Russell family's current status, there's no need for a marriage alliance, and Juniper knows that."
That was why Juniper couldn't understand Cynthia's insistence on forcing her to marry.
But in Cynthia's eyes, even though the family didn't need a marriage alliance, the tradition of marrying someone of equal status couldn't be broken!
Cynthia herself came from a prestigious family and married Rupert as arranged by her family. She didn't feel oppressed or dissatisfied by the family's control; on the contrary, she was very satisfied with the marriage.
And it turned out she was right. Rupert was not only gentle and stable but also loved and pampered her.
Because she enjoyed the benefits of a "well-matched" marriage, Cynthia hoped Juniper could be like her and not suffer in her marriage.
However, Juniper wasn't the type to follow orders, especially after living freely for so many years since graduating from college.
Camilla pursed her lips.
"She had a big fight with Cynthia today. She probably won't go home for a while." Sebastian said calmly, "Luckily, she has you, so she won't be homeless. I'll have to trouble you to take care of her for a while."
Camilla replied, "Juniper is my friend after all."
She just didn't expect it.
