Chapter 105 I Have a Wife
Francis was about to leave after dealing with that person, but Chloe acted quickly, grabbed his arm, leaned on him, and softly said, "Francis, I feel dizzy."
The atmosphere was already tense after the incident with Louis, and someone in the crowd suggested, "How about a kiss?" This sparked a lively response, with everyone chanting, "Kiss! Kiss!"
Chloe was delighted to see her plan unfold. She wanted to solidify some rumors, knowing that being Francis's girlfriend had brought her and the Musk family great benefits. Chloe expected Francis to play along. She leaned in for a kiss, but Francis coldly said, "Chloe, that's enough."
Francis didn't know about the birthday party, but he didn't expose her and embarrass her. Chloe, looking hurt, pleaded, "Francis, can't you even give me a formal kiss? Everyone is watching."
Francis, with a cold gaze, reminded her, "Chloe, don't forget, I have a wife."
The word ‘wife’ felt like a sharp knife to Chloe. She clenched her fists, her nails against her palms. She thought, ‘Harper doesn’t deserve you. Only I can be your wife.’
Amidst the crowd's chatter, Francis left, leaving an awkward silence.
Chloe forced a smile and explained, "Francis has urgent matters to attend to. Let's continue." The lively atmosphere returned. Chloe's expression was replaced by a hideous one. She wished Harper would die!
After Francis left, Victor went to get the car. In the car, Francis took some pills without counting them. His head had been aching since he saw the report. He felt a surge of violent emotions, unsure of what he might do if he confronted Harper in his current state. He needed to wait until he was clear-headed to make a rational decision. Francis ordered when Victor had just driven a few miles, "Stop the car!"
Victor complied and stopped the car. He then saw Harper hugging a man not far away. The man was Rhodes. They looked like a couple who had just fought.
The streetlight cast a cold light on Francis's face, accentuating his handsome yet icy features. He let out a mocking smile, his fist slamming into the car's LCD screen. Blood dripped, but he felt no pain.
The suppressed rage was about to erupt. He said, "Let's go."
Rhodes stood on the roadside. Under his frameless glasses was a pair of deep and cold eyes, creating a sense of unapproachability.
Harper apologized and took a step back, leaving his embrace.
Unexpectedly, Rhodes grabbed her wrist with great force and lifted her. Harper was startled and struggled, "Mr. Getty, please put me down."
"You're injured. Let me take care of the wound for you." Rhodes insisted, carrying her to the car.
Inside, he handed her a clean suit jacket. Harper could smell a fresh mint fragrance on Rhodes's clothes, a calming scent. She thanked him, and Rhodes nodded slightly in response. There was a faint smell of alcohol in the car, indicating that Rhodes had been drinking. He leaned back in his seat, closing his eyes to rest.
Suddenly, Harper’s phone rang. It was Molly, asking if she had arrived home. Harper didn't want her to worry, so she replied that she had. Molly sent her a video showing Francis being teased and kissed by Chloe after they left. The footage ended just as they were about to kiss.
Molly: [Harper, were you lying to me when you said you get along with each other well? You are his rightful wife. How could he treat you like this?]
Harper looked at the video in which Francis and Chloe stood together. Tears fell on the screen of her phone. Harper wiped them away, but more followed. Soon, the screen was blurred by the tears. Harper felt a sharp pain in her heart. She was so naive and foolish! She always chose to believe Francis and forgive him because of his few good qualities. But now, she was like a joke again.
She would never believe his promises again, never.
Rhodes handed Harper a handkerchief without saying a word. Harper took it and wiped her tears. Her small face was covered with tears, and the forced strength in her eyes made people feel sorry for her. After wiping her tears, she realized it was a handkerchief, and it was not appropriate to return the dirty one, so she put it in her pocket.
Soon, the car arrived at a private residence. After getting out of the car, Rhodes reached out his hand, looked at Harper, and then retracted it. Inside, a woman in her forties approached and looked Rhodes up and down, asking, "Do you have a girlfriend?"
Before Harper could answer, Rhodes spoke up, "No, I'm just helping her with a wound."
The woman looked at Harper, and her eyes widened as she exclaimed, "Shirley?"
Harper was taken aback, and the woman quickly regained her composure, shaking her head and saying, "I need to wear glasses."
The woman took Harper's hand and led her to a seat. She then took out a first aid kit to gently clean her wound. As she worked, she looked at Harper and said, "You look just like a friend of mine."
Harper was surprised. Rhodes had also said that she looked like a friend. His words were not just a casual remark. She suddenly felt a little embarrassed. After finishing the treatment, the woman asked Harper to sit and wait while she prepared some medication for her to take home. As they left, Rhodes stood on the balcony, smoking. He turned around when he heard a noise and asked, "Is she okay?"
"She's fine. It is just a minor injury." The woman hesitated for a while and added, "But I noticed that she seems to be pregnant."
Rhodes was also taken aback. The woman looked at his expression and teased, "Rhodes, you're quite something. She's much younger than you."
Rhodes seemed lost in thought, but he didn't explain. The woman continued, "I'm glad you can move on. Shirley would probably want you to start a new relationship." After getting the medicine, the two of them got into the car and left.
Rhodes remained calm and didn't say much. The atmosphere was suitable for Harper, who didn't want to say a word at the moment. When they arrived at the Moou Residence, Harper got out of the car and thanked Rhodes.
Rhodes nodded. Just as Harper was about to get out of the car, Rhodes suddenly reached out and grabbed her wrist. His palm pressed against her skin, and Harper could feel the warmth. Through his gentle face and the thin lenses, Rhodes looked at her and said, "If you need anything, you can call the number I gave you last time."
When Harper returned the money to Rhodes, they had some interaction, but it was only that one time.
She said, "Thank you for your help. I've sent the money back. Please check." Rhodes replied with a simple "OK." After saying that, he quickly let go of her hand.
Harper opened the car door and heard Rhodes say from behind. "Don't be in such a sorry state next time," Rhodes said that it is like an elder caring for a younger person. Harper didn't think much of it and watched his car drive away. Little did she know that there was a pair of cold eyes watching her.
