Chapter 378 The Emblem

Harper caught something off about Vincent's face. "Vincent, you know this pattern or what?"

Vincent's face got all serious. "Hold up, you tell me first, how'd you come across this pattern?"

Harper, a bit thrown by his serious vibe, said, "It's the tattoo on the arm of the dude who messed me up back then."

"The guy who messed you up?" Vincent looked kinda shocked. "You remember now?"

Harper wasn't about to keep secrets and nodded.

"Alright, spill it. What went down with this guy?" Vincent pressed, "Tell me everything. Maybe I can help."

Harper thought back to that night. The driver had crashed 'cause of some blinding light from another car.

Thinking about it now, she realized that light wasn't from regular car headlights.

She was in the back seat, so she didn't get hit by the light directly. But after the crash, when the driver got thrown into the back seat, Harper saw blood streaming from his eyes, and his pupils were burnt white.

It was clear someone had used some special trick to blind the driver, causing the crash.

Later, when she heard the rescue vehicle coming, she thought she was saved. But then, an arm reached through the car window, holding a hammer, and whacked her on the head.

Then, the already shaky car got pushed straight into the river.

Just before she blacked out, Harper saw the guy wearing a mask, only his deep-set eyes showing. She also saw the emblem on his arm, with a mole right in the center of it.

Vincent's face got even more serious after hearing this.

Then he said, "That's the emblem of the Charles family."

The Charles family was one of the two big families on Emerald Isle, along with the Perry family.

For years, they'd been living in the Perry family's shadow.

The main reason was their wealth wasn't as massive as the Perry family's, which had a bunch of loyal warriors, making them unbeatable.

Lately, Vincent had heard from his brothers that the Charles family got some help from outside Emerald Isle and had secretly risen, trying to outdo the Perry family and take over Emerald Isle.

From Harper's story, it seemed the Charles family would kill for money, which explained their quick rise.

Harper had also heard Jasper talk about the Charles family, saying they were a century-old prestigious family but really a bunch of crooks, doing all sorts of shady stuff.

Back then, the only people who knew about her leaving, besides Rhodes who set it up, were Chloe.

It was actually Rhodes who saved her from the river and later arranged for her to be sent abroad.

But Rhodes seemed to avoid the Murphy family, and they hadn't crossed paths in years.

Rhodes had no motive and had saved both her and Agnes.

That left Chloe. Chloe's intent to kill her was now more than obvious! She was involved in almost every incident back then.

But even if Chloe had some connections locally, the Charles family was far away in another country.

Harper couldn't figure out how Chloe managed to link up with the Charles family. Maybe she needed to find a chance to visit Chloe in prison.

Seeing her deep in thought, Vincent frowned and said, "I'll help you dig into this. Don't even think about doing it yourself, got it?"

The Charles family were straight-up thugs. If they found out Harper was the one they botched killing, they might cross the ocean to finish the job. Better to play it safe.

Vincent said, "If that person’s still with the Charles family, I’ll track them down."

"Thanks," Harper nodded.

Seeing her all compliant, Vincent almost patted her head but thought better of it and pulled back.

"Harper, if you need anything while Jasper’s away, hit me up, alright?" Vincent smiled a bit. "I’m here to help."

Harper agreed and then remembered something, "Vincent, keep this on the down-low. I’ll tell Jasper when he’s back."

Her head was a mess, and she needed time to piece together what happened before and after her memory loss.

Vincent nodded. It was getting late, so he grabbed the lunchbox and said, "Get some rest. I’ll swing by tomorrow."

As Vincent left, he told Isla to take good care of Harper.

He used to be chill, but now that he knew Harper was on the Charles family’s hit list, he felt uneasy.

The next day.

Harper got out of bed to stretch her legs.

She’d barely taken a few steps when she heard a cheerful voice. "Mommy!"

The sweet-smelling Agnes had already launched herself into Harper’s arms.

Harper felt a warmth in her heart and picked up Agnes. "Hey, sweetie."

Zoey followed in and, seeing Harper holding Agnes, said, "Agnes, let’s go play over there, okay? Don’t tire out Mommy."

Hearing this, Agnes wriggled to get down.

Harper sat down with Agnes in her arms and smiled, "It’s okay. I can handle it."

Zoey explained, "Agnes had a nightmare this morning and thought you were in danger. She wouldn’t stop crying, so I brought her over in Mr. Perry’s car to calm her down."

Harper affectionately rubbed noses with Agnes and said softly, "Agnes, you feel better now?"

"Mommy, I missed you so much," Agnes said, tearing up.

Harper’s heart ached, especially after she remembered that Agnes was actually Francis’s daughter.

All that talk about Allen was just a cover Jasper used to protect her.

It made sense why she always felt Agnes looked like Francis.

Now she was super grateful everyone said Agnes looked like her, keeping Francis from getting any ideas.

But anyone who’d seen Francis as a kid would probably see the resemblance.

Just then, a nurse came in.

Harper just needed a bit more treatment and observation before she could go home.

Zoey took Agnes to play in the hallway, while Vincent stayed by the bedside.

Agnes was running around outside, super happy.

She accidentally bumped into a man.

Zoey quickly apologized, "Sir, I’m so sorry."

Wesley only saw the top of Agnes’s fluffy head, which was adorable, and smiled, "No worries."

Just as he was about to walk away, he heard a cute voice, still a bit unclear, say, "I’m sorry."

Wesley couldn’t help but pat Agnes’s soft head and smiled gently, "It’s all good."

Agnes looked up and smiled, "Mommy says I should apologize when I do something wrong."

When Wesley saw Agnes’s little face, his mind went blank.

Why did Agnes look so much like Francis when he was a kid?
