Chapter 466 Elodie's State

Arthur's jaw hit the floor when he heard the name. He was totally frozen.

Elodie caught his weird vibe, looked up, and asked, "Arthur, what's up?"

Arthur snapped back, grabbed her hand, and said all soft, "It's nothing. How you feeling?"

Elodie rubbed her head, frowning a bit, "I dunno, my head's killing me."

Arthur started massaging her head, whispering, "I'll get a doc to check you out."

Feeling all weak, Elodie just mumbled, "Okay."

Arthur pulled out his phone, ready to call, but then Elodie's words stopped him, "Arthur, where are my parents?"

Arthur's phone hit the floor with a thud. His eyes locked onto Elodie's face, and he was giving off some serious ice vibes.

Elodie, all confused, reminded him, "Arthur, you dropped your phone."

Arthur ignored the phone and asked, "What did you just say?"

Elodie, still out of it, thought for a sec and said, "I mean, where are my parents? Why aren't they home?"

Arthur's eyes got even colder as he looked around. The room was set up just like hers, so no wonder she was asking weird stuff.

"Elodie, your parents..."

Elodie cut him off, "Call my mom over, she must be worried since I fainted."

Arthur was speechless, his deep eyes just staring at her. After a beat, he said, "Your mom's worried about you?"

Elodie was like, "Yeah, what's the deal?"

"Elodie," Arthur said, his tone a bit chilly, "Have you forgotten some stuff?"

Elodie widened her pretty eyes, looking all lost, "What did I forget?"

Arthur asked, "Elodie, how old are you?"

Elodie replied, "18."

Arthur said calmly, "And me?"

Elodie giggled, "Is this a quiz? You're 19. Your name's Arthur, and you're our top bodyguard."

Arthur went dead silent.

Elodie looked him over and laughed, "How long was I out? You look so grown-up now, like you're in your thirties. You should consider using skincare stuff."

Arthur, who'd been hitting the gym for years, was ripped and handsome, looking like he was in his thirties.

Elodie smiled, no wrinkles at the corners of her eyes even after sleeping for years. In her current state, anyone would think she was a thirty-year-old woman.

Arthur stared at Elodie, his face unreadable.

Just then, there was a knock on the door. Arthur said, "Come in."

A doctor walked in. Arthur told Elodie, "The doc's gonna check you out. Don't stress."

Elodie nodded, still kinda out of it.

After the check-up, Arthur followed the doc out.

Arthur was intimidating, even from a few feet away. The doc, all nervous, said, "Mr. Hernandez, Ms. Sackler's body is fine, but the blood clot in her brain is still there. It seems to be shrinking, probably 'cause of the treatment. If possible, I think the treatment should keep going..."

"Cut to the chase," Arthur interrupted, not in the mood.

The doc was stunned, "Uh, what?"

Arthur's lips curled into a cold smile, "Didn't you notice something's off with her mind?"

The doc dropped his head and mumbled, "I didn't catch that, but her mental state seems fine and healthy."

"Healthy?" Arthur's smile was ice-cold and razor-sharp. "I've had you checking her out for ages, and that's all you got?"

Arthur's grin was so fierce, the doc felt like he was about to meet his maker. He hit the floor with a loud thud, begging, "Mr. Hernandez, please, don't kill me."

Arthur said, "Elodie just woke up today, which is good, so I won't hold it against you, but..."

Arthur, feeling edgy, grabbed the doc's hair and hissed, "Get out of here!"

The mansion was a maze, with one set of stairs leading to the main entrance and another to a creepy basement. The doc didn't waste a second, bolting out and tumbling down the stairs like a ragdoll. He was just glad to be alive.

Arthur had gone through at least eight to ten docs over the years. Each one either met a violent end or vanished suddenly. Just hearing Arthur's name made most docs shake in their boots.

The pay was sky-high, but it came with a death wish, making it not worth it. But those picked by Arthur had no choice but to show up, hoping they'd survive another year.

The mansion was dead quiet. Servants moved around like ghosts, not making a peep. Arthur stood at the basement door, his face unreadable. After a bit, he headed to the master bedroom.

The servant watching over Elodie saw Arthur come in and immediately greeted him, "Mr. Hernandez."

Arthur waved them off, and the servant quickly left the room. Walking to the bedside, Arthur saw Elodie still awake. She looked at him and asked, "Arthur, why hasn't my mom come yet?"

Arthur sat by the bed, one hand beside Elodie's leg, the other smoothing her hair, speaking softly, "She's not coming."

"Why?" Elodie asked, confused, clutching Arthur's arm tightly.

Arthur looked at her hands, feeling a wave of unexpected tenderness. "Silly, your parents are on vacation abroad. Your memory must be a bit fuzzy."

"My memory's fuzzy?" Elodie couldn't believe it.

Arthur patted her head and said reassuringly, "You'll remember slowly."

Elodie pouted. "I miss my mom. Can you have her call me?"

Arthur said, "They're on the beach right now. I doubt they can pick up a phone."

Elodie's eyes welled up with tears, her spirit sinking. She asked, "Have I forgotten a lot of things?"

Arthur noticed her distress and said gently, "Are you tired? How about some sleep?"

Elodie nodded. Arthur helped her lie down, covered her with a blanket, and gently kissed her forehead. "Sleep, when you wake up, I'll tell you what you've forgotten."

Elodie was a bit shocked and asked, "Arthur, how can you kiss me?"

Arthur looked at her playfully and responded, "Elodie, you forgot, we're already together. We've done all sorts of things besides kissing."

"We're together?" Elodie couldn't believe it.

Arthur didn't answer directly, leaning in and speaking in a low voice, "Elodie, do you want to hear it now or sleep now?"

Elodie looked pained as she mumbled, "My head hurts a lot."
