Chapter 272 I can't play along with this charade anymore.

Chloe turned around and greeted Harper, "Harper, what brings you here?"

She asked so skillfully as if she were the hostess of the Getty Group.

Harper's eyes were red as she stared at her, her hands and feet cold.

She noticed Chloe's slightly protruding belly. As a woman, Harper knew it wasn't just fat; it was clearly a pregnancy.

The pregnancy seemed to be not much further along than Harper's, but Chloe's sallow face and emaciated figure made it more noticeable.

In an instant, a storm of turmoil surged in Harper's heart.

Francis had been lying to her all along.

The mental hospital, the revenge—everything was a lie.

Not only had Francis brought Chloe to his side, but she was also pregnant.

"Harper, I've always wanted to apologize to you." Chloe looked at Harper, tears welling up in her eyes. "I was so immature before, didn't know my place, and kept clinging to Francis, making you unhappy."

Chloe's usual arrogance was gone, and with her sallow face, she actually looked somewhat pitiful as she cried.

But Harper didn't feel sorry for her at all; her eyes were filled with hatred.

Before Amelia died, she admitted that it was Chloe who instigated her to harm Harper's child.

Harper's face turned icy as she slapped Chloe.

Chloe was slapped so hard that she stumbled into the corner of the sofa, clutching her belly with one hand and holding onto the couch with the other, crying out in pain.

From other angles, it might not have been clear, but Harper saw it very clearly. The force of her slap couldn't possibly have made Chloe stumble backward into the sofa.

It was obvious she was still putting up another show, trying to act pitifully to frame her. Since she liked to play so much, Harper decided to help her out.

Harper stepped forward, grabbed Chloe's hands, and asked, "Are you okay?"

Chloe bit her lip, tears welling up in her eyes, making her already emaciated face look even uglier.

However, she didn't think so herself. "Harper, why did you hit me? We just met."

Harper smiled, "You can still talk, so I guess you're fine."

Then, Harper slapped Chloe three more times, clean and swift.

This time, she held onto one of Chloe's hands to prevent her from falling and pretending to be pitiful again.

Chloe clutched her now swollen face, tears streaming down as she cried miserably.

Harper sneered, "Don't you love to be a puppet on the stage? I'm just helping you out."

"Harper, I know I've offended you. I apologize," Chloe said.

Harper grabbed Chloe's hair and slapped her again. "Sorry, I slap you. Is that what you mean by an apology?" she spat, her voice dripping with sarcasm and rage.

Chloe was slapped so badly that she couldn't fight back and was about to lose her mind.

When Chloe came out of the mental hospital, her body was extremely weak, and the damn pregnancy had drained her. It took her several days to regain some energy. "Harper, do you hate me that much? There's nothing between Francis and me."

Chloe deliberately slowed her speech, making it sound more like a provocation. It was as if she was indirectly saying that there was always something between Francis and her.

Harper grabbed her hair and slammed her head onto the sofa, her frosty eyes coldly staring at Chloe. "You know why I slap you. You are the one who has made my previous child gone. Did you think I would let you get away with it?"

Chloe panicked, her eyes widening, "Harper, Harper, it's not me. How could I?"

"Harper!" At this moment, Francis came over, pulled her away, and stopped the commotion.

"Don't touch me!" Harper shook off Francis's hands forcefully, feeling utterly disgusted.

Harper felt utterly repulsed by them.

A wave of nausea surged in her stomach, making her vision go black and causing her to lose her balance.

Francis hurriedly reached out to support her.

Harper took a step back, steadied herself, and gritted her teeth. "Francis, I will no longer abide by this agreement. Please sign the divorce papers, or I won't mind going public."

With that, Harper turned and left, as she didn't want to see Francis and Chloe any longer.

Francis wanted to chase after her, but Chloe suddenly grabbed his pant leg, panicking. "I feel my belly hurt; I think I'm bleeding."

A glaring pool of blood appeared on the floor.

Francis frowned, stopped, and instructed Victor, who had rushed in. "Take her to the hospital. Don't put a step away from her, and make sure nothing goes wrong."

Then, ignoring Chloe on the floor, he hurriedly chased after Harper.

Chloe bit her lip hard, still bleeding, but Francis acted as if he didn't see it.

She didn't dare to make a fuss anymore; after all, the days in the mental hospital were unbearable.

She had to hold onto her current leverage and avoid openly confronting Harper, or Francis wouldn't let her off easily.

Chloe clenched her fists, telling herself that this humiliation was only temporary. She would reclaim everything that belonged to her one day.

At the elevator, Francis saw Harper arguing with the bodyguards.

"Let me go! What right do you have to stop me from leaving."

Francis waved his right hand, and the two bodyguards stepped aside.

Just as Harper was about to leave, Francis grabbed her from behind and carried her into the elevator.

"Don't touch me!" Harper struggled, but not too violently, as she was afraid of falling to the ground.

She said with disgust, "Francis, please, don't touch me with those dirty hands, okay?"

Francis ignored her, carried her to the car, and buckled her seatbelt.

Harper struggled to get out of the car, but Francis, after getting into the driver's seat, crossed her hands over her chest and held her tightly.

Harper's face turned blue with anger, and she breathed heavily. "Bastard! Go find your first love. If you love each other so much, why won't you let me go? You think I'm a pushover, don't you? Bastard! Scumbag! You're a demon."

Harper trembled with rage at the thought of Francis keeping Chloe, who was pregnant, while grounding her.

Although Chloe hadn't done it with her hands, she had instigated Amelia and provided her with information and funds to carry out the act.

Even though Amelia was gone and there was no evidence, it didn't erase the fact that Chloe was an accomplice in the death of her child.

Harper glared at Francis furiously. "Get your dirty hands off me. I'm telling you, I won't play along with you anymore. I'll go and apologize to your grandfather!"

She couldn't even stand being in the same car with him now.

Just thinking about how Francis had been secretly keeping the person who killed their child made her blood boil, and she couldn't stay calm.

Seeing her face turn red with anger and her heavy breathing, Francis felt a pang of heartache and softened his voice as he said, "Harper, can you calm down?"

Harper didn't want Francis to touch her, so she clenched her fists, forcing herself to calm down.

Seeing her breathing steady and her demeanor quiet down, Francis let go of her hands and explained, "Things are not what you think."
