Chapter 436: A Good Night

Harper wanted to correct him but decided to let it slide. She just didn't have the energy for it.

"Alright, let's head to my place. I'll whip up something for you."

When they hit the living room, Francis spotted a table full of dishes and his face fell. Harper had clearly gone all out for this dinner, and he felt like a jerk for letting her down.

Since he hadn't eaten all day, Harper fixed him a plate of pasta. She turned down the heat on the pot after the water boiled to make the pasta nice and soft.

Once served, Francis wolfed down a huge plate of pasta, his eyes still showing a bit of dissatisfaction.

Harper said, "That's enough. Let your stomach do its thing."

It was late, so Harper didn't bother calling the maid and decided to wash the plate herself. But Francis beat her to it, grabbing the plate and headed to the sink to wash it clean.

Seeing Francis at the sink, which barely reached his waist, Harper thought he looked a bit out of place but also kinda sweet.

After everything was done, Francis didn't want to leave and asked softly, "Can I go see Agnes?"

Harper agreed and tried to untie her apron, but ended up making a knot instead. Francis moved behind her and said in a low, husky voice, "Let me."

As Francis's fingers worked on the knot, they occasionally brushed against her neck, sending shivers down Harper's spine.

Their positions, with her facing the wall and him standing behind, felt super intimate. Harper's breathing got faster.

Francis smirked and chuckled softly, "Why are your ears so red?"

His lazy laughter was like a cello's elegant and noble music, seeping through every part of her skin. Not only were Harper's ears red, but her neck was also flushed.

"Are you done?" she asked.

"Yep." Francis untied the apron and casually tossed it on the kitchen counter.

Francis's gaze was like that of a nocturnal animal. Harper blushed and said, "After you see Agnes, you should head back."

After seeing Agnes, Francis stood reluctantly at the door. "When can I stay over?"

Harper's ears burned as she said, "In your dreams."

With that, she slammed the door shut.

Francis looked at the closed door, feeling oddly happy.

On his way back, Victor reported from the front seat, "Mr. Getty, the security team found traces of the suspect who took the blood and bailed that day."

Francis asked, "Did they get any info?"

Victor replied, "No, by the time they found him, he was dead in the car for several days."

Francis frowned and asked again, "Dead?"

Victor responded, "Yeah, after handing him over to the cops, we checked with a coroner we know, and it seems the cause of death was a heart self-destruct device."

Francis's brows furrowed.

Victor continued, "The method suggests an artificial implant, which we haven't seen around here. The suspect was likely from another country, probably the Charles family from Emerald Isle. It's said they have a precision unit that does secret missions in various countries."

Francis couldn't figure out why these people were after Harper. It seemed necessary to consult Jasper to see if they had any enemies abroad. The ability to implant a heart self-destruct device indicated that this organization was no joke.

If it really was the Charles family, things were about to get real messy. In Dreamlandia, Francis could keep an eye on Harper and her daughter, but doing that abroad? Way tougher.

The more Francis thought about it, the more his brows furrowed, his handsome face clouded with worry.

"Keep digging into why they're after Harper!" His voice was ice-cold and firm. "And get two elite guards on Harper and Agnes. But tell them to keep their distance. Just make sure they're safe."

"Got it," Victor replied.

In the days that followed, Harper buried herself in work. Whenever Francis had a spare moment, he'd swing by her studio with meals. Soon enough, everyone at the studio knew Harper had a super handsome boyfriend. Harper found it annoying, thinking Francis was just trying to show off.

One thing that caught her eye was Audrey holding a press conference to say she had no relationship with Francis beyond work. But during the whole thing, Audrey looked bitter and insincere.

It even made the news. People were saying Audrey got booted by the Getty family. For a while, the Getty Group was getting roasted online, and their rep took a hit.

Harper realized the press conference only made Audrey look good.

But Harper didn't dwell on it. She was busy with a charity project.

Elodie had always been big on charity work. So this time, Harper, under Elodie Studios, teamed up with the Children's Welfare Foundation for a charity project. She took it seriously, not just donating money and goods but also spending time with the kids.

The three-day event was on its second day, and tomorrow, she'd be back in Northfield.

Harper missed Agnes like crazy, not having seen her for three days. Luckily, Francis was in Northfield. He'd go over after work to hang out with Agnes and take her out. Harper felt grateful to Francis. At least Agnes wouldn't feel lonely when she couldn't be there.

During their video call at night, after Agnes finished talking, Francis appeared on the screen, his face chiseled and handsome.

"Want me to pick you up tomorrow?" Francis asked, wanting to go but respecting Harper's wishes.

Harper said, "No need, we're taking the volunteer bus to the airport."

She didn't want to make a big deal out of the charity work.

Francis nodded, his voice low and husky. "I miss you. Do you miss me?"

Seeing the longing in Francis's eyes, Harper felt her face heat up. She stammered, "I need to sleep."

Francis looked a bit disappointed but nodded. "Goodnight."

"Goodnight."

After hanging up, Harper couldn't stop thinking about Francis's disappointed look and found it hard to sleep. She forced herself to sleep, knowing she had a lot to do the next day.

Half-asleep, she was suddenly jolted awake by a loud noise, followed by the ground shaking violently. Harper, still groggy, heard the thump of things falling.

Outside the window, someone shouted, "Run! Earthquake!"
