Chapter 157 Afraid of Him

Seeing Francis compromise, Ryan softened his tone a bit.

"Expanding the market is ultimately for the Getty family. You're my only son. Of course, I want you to live better and better."

Francis, a bit absent-minded, replied, "Okay."

Ryan was pleased. Looking at Francis, who was taller than him, he felt a bit proud and reached out to pat his back, but Francis sidestepped.

He was fed up with Ryan's hypocritical facade and said coldly, "If nothing is going on here, please don't come over anymore."

Ryan was displeased upon hearing this. This house was also his home. He had a share in it. Why couldn't he come over?

Abigail and Dylan had really influenced Francis.

He didn't go along with him at all.

But thinking about Francis’ acceptance to of the blind date, he decided to let it go.

His tone became a lot nicer as he said, "Alright, I won't come over if there's nothing."

Cooperation with the foreign market was originally something he discussed with the Lily familythe Sullivan family’s elders. Once it succeeded, he would most likely regain the Getty Group's main decision-making power.

By then, Francis would have to obey his orders.

He had to consider his other children, too. After all, they were all his biological children. He would prioritize whichever one was obedient.

The next day, .

Harper tidied up Molly's house. Molly didn't come back last night. And she usually didn't stay there.

Previously, Molly had joked with her, saying this was a house she could use to increase her sense of security and sell for money if she ever wanted to run away.

Now, it was just right for Harper to move in and clean the house for her.

Harper knew this was Molly's way of helping her. Since Molly didn't want her to live alone, she paid her rent at the market price. If Molly didn't accept it, she wouldn't stay.

In the end, Molly couldn't argue with her and , so she accepted half of her offer and said they would live together.

Harper listed her own house with an agent, and it turned out that two people were interested in renting it. And they were still negotiating, but she wanted more from their offers.

They were all lowballing, and although she was in a hurry, she didn't want to sell it cheap.

After all, this was the home that carried her dreams. She had researched the location thoroughly, and it was worth the price she was asking.

In the afternoon,

Keith invited Harper for dessert, saying he needed her help.

Harper left early and went to the hospital to see Dylan first.

Recently, Dylan's condition deteriorated, and he was in the hospital for regular care.

Dylan was very happy to see her and asked, "Why are you here alone? Where's Francis?"

Harper lied as she said, "He's busy."

In fact, she had purposely chosen a time when she was sure not to run into Francis.

After chatting with Dylan for a while, Harper tentatively asked, "Dylan, if one day Francis and I separated, would you be angry?"

Dylan frowned deeply, and his expression turned grim. "Harper, has that bastard bullied you?"

"No, Dylan, I'm just imagining such a scenario."

Harper had thought about this for a long time. She felt that Dylan could not keep their divorce secret forever.

It was better to tell him the truth sooner so it would be less awkward.

Dylan might be angry for a while, but he would probably understand her.

She couldn't tell him about the baby. Otherwise, Dylan might not be able to handle it. She had to come up with a better reason.

Dylan disapproved as he said, "Why are you imagining things that haven't happened yet? If you have misunderstandings, you two should resolve them in time. Don't wait until it's too late to regret."

Harper found it hard to tell him. Seeing her troubled look, Dylan tried to comfort her.

"Harper, I'm already old. There's nothing I can't handle. If you have any troubles, tell me, and I'll stand up for you."

Harper's eyes welled up, and she pressed her face against Dylan's hand as she said, "Dylan, I don't have any troubles. I wish you safe and sound."

Dylan smiled and said with his aged voice, "Everyone has regrets in their life. Don't underestimate me. I'm not so fragile."

Harper felt that Dylan might have already known about their divorce or at least sensed something was off.

After all, it had been a long time since they both visited Dylan together, and he might be more sensitive to such things.

She tried to comfort him as she saidby saying, "Dylan, I..."

Before she could finish, the door to the hospital room opened, and Francis walked in.

He must have just met with an important business partner. He was dressed in a sharp suit with a silver-white lapel pin and a deep red tie and looked exceptionally handsome and dashing.

Clearly, he was the epitome of a young and promising talent.

Harper was still puzzled about why he was here at this time, but he had already walked over. His long, strong arms naturally wrapped around her shoulder and pulled her tightly into his embrace.

"Why didn't you wait for me to come together?"

His gentle and soft demeanor was just like when they were still sweet and happy together.

With Dylan watching, Harper couldn't push him away and had to let him hold her.

She whispered, "I thought you were busy."

Francis pressed his palm on her shoulder and smiled lightly. "No matter how busy I am, I will always come with you to see Dylan."

His voice was so tender that it was hard to believe he was the same person who had been so harsh to her last night.

Harper thought, ‘Probably there’s no girl who could resist such a gentle Francis. ’

‘If he wanted, he could make any girl he pampered completely immersed in his tenderness.’

If it weren't for that heart-wrenching pain, she might have fallen for him again, just like before.

The thirty minutes in the hospital room felt particularly torturous to Harper.

Francis held her shoulder tightly and sensed her stiffness. He gently traced circles on her shoulder with his thumbWith his thumb, he gently traced circles on her shoulder.

Harper grew even more nervous, and her face turned bright red.

Dylan noticed something was off and asked, "Harper, what's wrong? Why is your face so red?"

Francis also looked down at her, and his gaze was intense, like the scorching sun.

Harper mumbled, "I'm a bit hot."

Dylan didn't suspect anything. "I don’t like cold, so I turned up the air conditioning a bit."

Finally, Francis and Harper left the Dylan’s his room.

As soon as they stepped out, Harper shook off Francis' hands without hesitationHarper didn't hesitate for a second to shake off Francis' hands.

Pretending to be affectionate just now had been too unbearable for her.

The elevator arrived, and she quickly got in and pressed the close button.

But Francis was faster and squeezed in before the doors closed.

As his familiar scent approached, Harper, recalled the kiss in the elevator last night and instinctively backed away.

A hint of mockery flashed in Francis' eyes as he stared at her and asked, "Where are you going? I'll give you a lift."

"No. I'll go by myself."

Harper subconsciously pressed her body against the elevator wall because she didn’t want any physical contact with him.

Especially after his confident statement that she would come back to him, she felt a bit traumatized.

Now, she just wanted to escape quickly.

Francis sneered as he said, "Harper, do you think I'll bite you?"

Her reaction was too obvious as if she couldn't stand being near him.

"No."

Harper turned her face away and didn’t dare to look at Francis' intensely aggressive eyes.

She didn't know what to say.

She had tried everything to persuade him to let go of their relationship.

But none seem to work.

Fortunately, at that moment, the elevator doors opened.

Harper hurried out, and just as she stepped out of the elevator, Keith's call came in. She quickly answered it.

On the other end, Keith asked where she was and said he would come to pick her up.

Seeing that Francis hadn't left, Harper covered the phone and whispered, "I'm at a hospital. It is..."

Before she could finish, Francis pushed her against the wall. With one hand of his pressing on the wall, she was trapped beneath him.

Harper's eyes widened, and before she could react, he took away her phone.

He said, "She doesn’t need you. I'll help her."
