Chapter 393 Audrey's Utter Embarrassment!
In the fancy hospital room.
The second the door creaked open, Francis's intense eyes darted over, like he was waiting for someone. But when he saw who it was, his gaze went cold.
"Francis, what's up?" Audrey rushed to his bedside, worry plastered all over her face.
"How'd you get in here?" Francis leaned back against the headboard, his chiseled face icy, practically screaming for her to back off.
He glanced at the door, noticing Victor was absent.
Audrey's face twitched, but before she could say anything, Francis cut in, "How'd you know I was here?"
His eyes narrowed at her, like she was some kind of intruder.
Audrey's heart skipped a beat. "Francis, you must've forgotten, my dad's here too. I saw Victor downstairs and figured something was up, so I came to check on you."
Francis stayed silent, and Audrey, not one to be easily embarrassed, plopped down by the bed. "Francis, why'd you pass out? What happened?"
She reached out to touch his forehead, but Francis jerked away, his brows knitting together.
Audrey's face fell, tears welling up. "Francis, I'm just worried about you."
Francis's eyes were cold as ice. He sneered, "Audrey, aren't you tired of this act?"
Audrey went pale. "Francis, what are you talking about? I don't get it."
"Audrey, I've been clear. You need to put out a statement saying there's nothing between us. We don't need to see or talk to each other anymore." His voice was flat and emotionless. "And don't try to fool me with your fake concern, got it?"
Audrey's face twisted in anger. "Francis, how am I fooling you? I just care about you."
Francis didn't even glance at her. "I don't need it. There's the door."
His coldness made Audrey clench her fists, trying to keep it together.
"Francis, are you pushing me away because of Harper? She doesn't even like you. She doesn't care about you."
If Harper really cared, she wouldn't have left so easily.
And here was Francis, humiliating her for someone who didn't give a damn.
Francis suddenly asked, "Did Harper come by?"
Audrey was caught off guard, then shook her head. "No, I didn't see her."
Francis looked at her, clearly not buying it. "Audrey, you think you're smart?"
"Huh?" Audrey looked up, meeting his intense gaze. He was giving her the attention she had never got before.
But instead of feeling happy, she felt like he was seeing right through her, making her uneasy.
Francis's face was stone cold. "Audrey, I haven't forgotten you pretending to be my fiancée in front of Harper. Watch your mouth, or you'll regret it."
Audrey's face went white as a sheet.
Tears filled her eyes. "Francis, are you threatening me?"
Five years of being by his side made Audrey think no one else could get close to him.
But in those five years, she'd spent more time with Abigail.
Francis's heart was always like a block of ice, never letting anyone in.
But Audrey? She thought she was special, different from the rest.
And now, Francis was treating her like dirt, all because of Harper!
Francis's face was stone cold, his voice even colder. "This ain't a threat. Do it again, and you'll see what happens."
Audrey's face went ghostly white. She could feel the venom in his words.
Tears welled up in her eyes. "Francis, is it because I love you that everything I do is wrong?"
He cut her off, "Love ain't the problem. It's your sneaky moves that make me sick."
Audrey started shaking. The guy she had worshipped for years just said she made him sick. Sick!
She stammered, "Francis, the Hernandez family has always backed you, never..."
The door swung open.
Victor walked in.
Francis barked, "Get Ms. Hernandez out of here. And put security at the door. No more uninvited guests."
His words hit Audrey like a slap in the face.
Just as she was about to protest, Victor motioned towards the door. "Ms. Hernandez, this way."
Audrey looked at Francis, her eyes a mix of obsession and anger.
Finally, she whispered, "Francis, everything I do is because I love you."
She thought, 'One day, you'll regret this.'
Outside the room, Audrey's sad face twisted into something fierce.
She started laughing like a maniac. If she couldn't have him, no one else would!
Back in the room, Francis ordered, "Check if Harper was here."
Victor thought Francis was deluding himself. 'Harper? No way she came.'
Francis added, "Keep tabs on Audrey. Report everything, even if she talks to my mom."
He had a hunch that Audrey's presence was dragging Abigail down, given Abigail's health was going downhill.
Francis's eyes were cold and ruthless.
He hoped he was just being paranoid.
Vincent was waiting by the elevator.
Seeing Harper come out looking lost, he asked, "What's up?"
Harper snapped out of it, shook her head. "Nothing."
She'd been thinking about the Getty family's illegitimate kid, but with Francis's skills, she was probably worrying for nothing.
Francis, the guy who pulled off business miracles, wasn't going down easy.
She was definitely overthinking it.
Just then, her phone rang.
Harper answered, and after a quick chat, she said, "I'm on my way."
She had a press conference today and was almost late because of all this drama.
Vincent asked, "Where to? I'll drive."
Seeing the clock ticking, Harper hopped into Vincent's car.
They got to the hotel where the press conference was happening.
Vincent, not wanting to leave her alone, followed her inside.
As they walked in, a cold gaze followed them. Once they were out of sight, someone stepped out from behind a flower bed.
They stared at Harper, eyes full of malice!
