Chapter 421 I Was So Scared

Harper was freaking out after she said that. She was silently praying, hoping Francis got what she was trying to say.

There was this awkward silence on the other end before he finally spoke, "What do you mean you gotta cancel?"

Harper's heart dropped; he didn't get it!

The dude with the shifty eyes looked suspicious, thinking Harper was calling for help, and was about to smash the phone. Then, an annoyed voice came from the receiver, "You should've said something earlier. I've been waiting forever."

The shifty-eyed guy paused, and Harper quickly said, "I'm sorry, really sorry. I just forgot!"

"Don't even think about giving me a bad review on the app. Cancel the order yourself!" The call ended abruptly.

Only then did the shifty-eyed guy believe Harper wasn't lying and eased up a bit.

He started fiddling with the phone and said, "Hurry up, what's the password for your PayPal account?"

Just then, the phone rang again. Same number. The shifty-eyed guy looked pissed and snapped, "What's going on now?"

Harper quickly said, "It's probably him bugging me to cancel the order. If I don't, he can't take the next one."

The guy tried to cancel it like Harper said, but he couldn't figure it out. The phone kept buzzing, making him more and more frustrated. "What kind of crap is this?"

Harper saw her chance and said, "Let me do it. It needs my fingerprint."

The shifty-eyed guy looked at her suspiciously and said, "You're not trying to trick me into untying you, are you?"

"Of course not!" Harper said timidly, "It'll be quick, and it would be quick when transferring money to you later."

He was tempted. With fingerprint, there was no risk of Harper entering the wrong password!

Harper saw he was considering it and kept pushing, "Look at me. Even if you untie me, I wouldn't be a threat to you."

Her shoulders were shaking, and her face was pale with fear, looking genuinely terrified.

The guy threatened her with a knife, "If you try any tricks, you'll regret it."

Harper nodded vigorously.

The guy lightly flicked the knife, and the rope snapped. He pressed the knife against Harper's neck, watching her operate the phone.

Luckily, Harper had actually called a ride-hailing service, and if the ride didn't match successfully, it would automatically match her with another one. Otherwise, her lie wouldn't have fooled this guy.

After canceling the order, Harper started transferring the money, her head down, body trembling, but her eyes were assessing the knife and the guy's position.

Men were way stronger than women. The self-defense moves she learned were mostly defensive; she wasn't strong enough to attack, which meant she only had one shot!

Francis had clearly understood earlier, but Harper didn't know how long it would take him to get there, and she didn't dare to risk her life.

This shifty-eyed guy probably wouldn't let her go after getting the money, but she still transferred $100,000 to him. Even if he bolted, having his account info would make it easier for the cops to track him.

Harper handed the phone to the shifty-eyed guy, showing the successful transfer. The guy squinted and grinned, the knife still pressed against her neck, a slight move could cut her carotid artery!

Harper kept up her act, her voice trembling, negotiating with him, "Sir, can you let me go now?"

The guy laughed, "Go? You haven't served me well yet, and I don't think so."

Harper knew it; guys like him had no credibility.

Her voice carried a sob, and she pleaded with her hands together, "Sir, I've given you the money. Please let me go."

This action conveniently moved the knife away.

Harper kept trembling, and the guy didn't notice the knife being moved away, his lecherous eyes fixed on her full, beautiful lips, saying, "Hurry up. I'm in a rush. If you serve me well, I won't touch your groin."

The guy's blatant lust made Harper sick. She took a deep breath, bit her lip, and put on a pitiful look, timidly saying, "Really? If I serve you well, you'll let me go?"

The guy thought she agreed and eagerly said, "Of course, it's true..."

Before he could finish, he let out a piercing scream.

Harper had somehow grabbed a stone, smashed it hard on the guy's groin, and then bolted away. She had only one thought in her mind: 'Run towards the light and where there are people.'

"Help! Help!" Harper ran and shouted for help. But at this hour, the financial district was almost deserted, with few cars on the road.

"Bitch! I'll kill you!" The guy's voice, filled with murderous intent, came from behind.

Harper didn't expect the guy to be so strong as to be able to chase after her. She ran toward the light frantically, but suddenly, she tripped and fell hard to the ground, her whole body going numb.

The guy, clutching his groin, ran closer, gritting his teeth. "Bitch! How dare you trick me! I'll slash your face."

He raised the knife high, aiming at Harper's face, and lunged down.

Harper's whole body was numb from the fall, she wanted to raise her hands to block her face but couldn't muster the strength. In her moment of despair, a slender arm suddenly blocked her face, the sharp knife cutting into that arm, and blood immediately oozed out.

Francis looked at the lecherous guy in front of him. The shifty-eyed guy hadn't reacted before being kicked over by Francis.

Falling to the ground, the guy still didn't give up, grabbing the knife that had fallen and swinging it back fiercely. Francis lifted his foot, precisely stepped on the guy's hand, and ground it hard with his heel.

The guy on the ground let out a heart-wrenching scream, the knife slipping from his grasp. Francis kicked the knife away, and then immediately squatted down to check if Harper was hurt and felt relieved after seeing Harper was fine.

"Are you okay?" Francis asked.

Harper had recovered by now, her body no longer numb, and she softly said, "I'm fine."

Francis suddenly pulled her into his arms. Harper was almost suffocated by Francis's embrace, and she called out in surprise, "Francis."

"Harper," Francis held her, his chin resting on her head, his body trembling slightly.

"I was so scared," he said softly.
