Chapter 381 You Slap Me For Him?
Harper was totally caught off guard when he dropped that question outta nowhere.
For a sec, her brain was all scrambled, and she clutched Agnes's clothes so tight her knuckles went white.
Francis just stared at her, not even blinking.
Right then, he was praying Harper would just say Agnes was her kid, plain and simple.
At least then, he could pretend she didn't know the whole time, and maybe he'd feel a bit better.
But Harper's shifty eyes and the way she was gripping her fingers? Yeah, she knew.
She knew Agnes was his kid and was keeping it from him!
Agnes was still in Francis's arms, clueless about the grown-up talk, just sensing Francis was being mean to Harper.
She started bawling and yelling, "You're a bad guy! Let me go! Don't bully Mommy!"
While crying, she pounded her tiny fists on Francis's chest, chanting, "Bad guy, bad daddy..."
Kids say the darndest things when they cry, and soon enough, he was not longer "Francis Daddy" but "bad daddy" to her.
The repeated cries of "bad daddy" made Harper's heart race. She quickly scolded, "Agnes, don't call him that!"
What was all this about?
Agnes was just trying to help Harper, but now even Harper was scolding her. Feeling hurt, she buried her face in Francis's chest and cried.
Harper was at a loss; she didn't mean to scold Agnes, she was just too anxious.
But Francis's next move left her speechless. Just moments ago, he was all tough, but now he was gently patting Agnes's back, over and over.
Only when Agnes's crying calmed down did he softly say, "Agnes, be good. Your mommy isn't scolding you, and I'm not arguing with mommy."
He glanced at Harper and then said, "We just have some grown-up stuff to talk about."
Agnes, still teary-eyed, asked, "Really? Daddy, you're not bullying mommy?"
Hearing her call him "daddy" made Francis's heart swell with joy, and all his anger vanished. "I swear on my life, I will never bully you or mommy."
Agnes felt a bit better and pouted, saying, "Then daddy, remember what you said. Lying is wrong!"
Harper felt a headache coming on. She couldn't understand when Agnes started calling him "daddy" so easily.
She had never called anyone else daddy before, not even Vincent, who treated her so well. This couldn't go on.
Harper asked Zoey to take Agnes out.
Zoey came over, and Francis looked at her, seeing that she seemed reliable. He carefully placed Agnes on the ground and handed her little hand to Zoey.
"Don't let her play near the stairs, don't let her talk to strangers, and don't let her go to crowded places. This is a hospital, there are more germs here."
This long list of instructions left both Zoey and Harper stunned.
Harper had never seen Francis so nagging.
Zoey knew Francis meant well and nodded. "Of course, sir."
With that, she took Agnes out.
The room was left with only three people.
Vincent had been silent, just watching.
He had always thought Agnes was Harper's kid with someone else mainly because he wasn't a gossip and hadn't asked Jasper about it.
But now, it was pretty clear Agnes was Francis's kid, and judging by his vibe, he probably already knew.
Francis glared at the two standing across from him, feeling super ticked off.
He yanked Harper's arm, pulling her to his side so hard she almost tripped.
Vincent, worried, quickly grabbed Harper's arm to steady her.
Francis's face went dark as night. He wanted to chop off that hand. "Get out!"
Vincent wasn't fazed, his face calm as he said, "Mr. Getty, Harper didn't ask me to leave."
As long as Harper didn't ask him to leave, he was staying put to make sure she was safe.
This made Francis's eyes blaze with anger.
Francis had always been super territorial, especially after finding out Agnes was his daughter. He couldn't stand other dudes eyeing the mother of his child.
They were a family, and no matter what, they had to stick together.
Francis said, "I don't wanna waste words with you. This is the last time. Get out!"
Harper struggled to free her arm, annoyed. "Francis, what are you doing? Stop it!"
Francis held her wrist tight.
His demeanor in front of a rival was totally different from when he was with Agnes, like he swapped places with his evil twin.
Seeing Harper's wrist turning red, Vincent hissed, "Mr. Getty, Harper asked you to let go. You can't force her."
"Force?" Francis seemed to hear a funny joke, unable to suppress a smirk.
"You still don't get who you're messing with. Let me make it clear one more time!" Francis's eyes were filled with hostility as he said each word clearly, "This is my woman. If you dare get close again, there will be consequences."
He had long been uncomfortable with Vincent, who always hovered around Harper, pretending to be Jasper's friend but actually coveting Harper. It was despicable!
Harper felt totally helpless. When did she become his woman? She didn't get why Francis was so mad, and what gave him the right to make a scene here? Who did he think he was?
Vincent wasn't intimidated by his threat but said calmly, "Mr. Getty, I think you're the one who doesn't get it. You two are already divorced. Harper is free to be friends with whoever she wants."
As he spoke, his eyes turned cold, his gentlemanly demeanor now tinged with a cold edge. "Now let her go!"
Seeing Vincent's hand on Harper's wrist, trying to pull her away, Francis lost all his patience, his eyes icy, and he suddenly threw a punch.
The sharp fist was about to hit Vincent's handsome, refined face when Harper exclaimed, "Francis, stop!"
The beast inside Francis had already been unleashed, but he forced himself to stop because of her words. He told himself to control his emotions; he wasn't here to fight with Harper.
Suddenly, a loud slap landed on Francis's chiseled face, catching him off guard.
Harper's palm stung, and for a moment, she was confused.
She hadn't expected him to stop, nor had she expected herself to be so angry that she slapped him.
Francis's handsome face turned pale, the five distinct finger marks glaringly red.
His eyes reddened, looking at Harper with hurt and disbelief. "You slapped me for him?"
His tone was filled with undisguised grievance, and his face looked extremely upset.
