Chapter 77 The Light Went Out

This sentence instantly shattered the remaining softness in Francis’ heart. He was never someone who knew how to placate women. He could do it once or twice at most, but he felt that Harper was picking fights unreasonably.

Besides, Francis hated being threatened.
Francis clenched his teeth and angrily retorted, "Harper! Can't you stop acting childish and threatening me with separation over and over again?"

Harper, however, had given up. Francis’s words could no longer affect her.
Harper used to take Francis as a beam of light that could lead her forward, but now the light went out forever.

"Francis, I’m serious this time. I was blind and foolish to believe your words before."

"Harper, how dare you!" So angry was Francis that he even wanted to smash the phone to the ground. He managed to squeeze out a sentence through his gritted teeth. "You should calm down first."

What responded to Francis was a series of beeps.
Harper had already hung up.
Francis’ charming eyes were filled with anger as he threw his phone out.

"Bang!"

The phone smashed against the wall and was broken.
Victor came over from nearby. In fact, he had just heard the quarrel. He knew Francis was arguing with Harper.

After considering for a moment, he asked, "Mr. Getty, do you need me to go and check if Mrs. Getty is okay?"

"No need!" Francis furrowed his eyebrows. He then ordered, "I don’t want to hear anything about her from now on."

Francis thought it was because of his indulgence that Harper was so irrational that she didn’t even know what was more important.

What was worse, Harper would always threaten Francis with breaking up and divorcing at the slightest issue.
Therefore, Francis decided to give Harper a cold shoulder until Harper realized her mistake.
After hanging up the phone, Harper seemed somewhat calmer on the surface.
But it was only on the surface.

Time was pressing for her grandma. Harper needed to arrange matters immediately and fulfill her grandma's dream, even if it was just for an hour.

At this moment, a nurse came over and said, "Are you the family member of the patient in Bed 304?"

The girl was beautiful, and even though Harper and the girl had only met a couple of times, the nurse remembered Harper.

Harper nodded. "What's seems to be the matter?"
There was pity in the nurse's eyes. She thought, ‘How could such a beautiful girl choose such an occupation?’

The nurse said, "Go take a look. Someone is looking for you in the ward where your grandma is. Be careful!"

Harper didn't understand what the nurse meant by "be careful" and hurriedly ran to the ward where her grandma was.

When Harper had just entered the ward and hadn't even had a chance to steady herself, a woman rushed up and slapped her in the face.

Exhausted and weak, Harper was knocked to the ground by the slap.

A woman moved first, pointing at Harper and shouting, "You little tease, how dare you tempt my husband! Finally, I caught you."

Harper didn't know these people and immediately refuted, "Who are you? I don't know you. I certainly don't know your husband."

But the woman didn't listen and intended to beat Harper again.

Harper was caught off guard. The woman grabbed Harper’s hair and called her helpers to slap Harper in the face. They didn’t stop until Harper’s face turned red and swollen.

Harper’s grandma, who had just been accused by these women of having a seductive granddaughter, was still struggling to catch her breath.

Seeing others physically attacking her granddaughter now, she felt sad and anxious. She cried, "Don't touch my granddaughter. You're not allowed to touch my granddaughter..."

She anxiously tried to get up from the bed but ended up falling to the ground, unable to utter a word due to the pain.

"Bang!"

An egg smashed heavily onto the wrinkled face of Harper’s grandma.

The woman didn't dare to physically harm Harper’s grandma for fear that Harper’s grandma might die.

But she raised her voice and said, "As the twig is bent, so grows the tree. The members of this family must all be troublemakers."

Harper’s grandma lay on the ground, panting heavily, without even the strength to wipe her face. She murmured weakly, "Don't hurt Harper. She's not the person you all say she is. Please don't hurt her..."

Once again, Harper’s heart was gripped by pain as if someone had stabbed it fiercely.

A violent turmoil erupted within her, causing unbearable pain.

Harper thought, ‘Why... why do they bully my grandma...’

The lady pointed at Harper’s Grandma with one hand and put the other on her hip. She shouted, " Humph! And what of it? Your granddaughter, she's nothing but a sly temptress, stealing the hearts of other women’s men. We're just doing what is right."

Before she could finish her sentence, Harper pounced on the woman’s face with all her might.

It left an obvious bruise.

"Ah!"

The woman let out a piercing scream, startling the people who came there with her.

Blood flowed down the woman's arm and also onto Harper's face.

After releasing her grip, Harper spat forcefully.

Harper then stood in front of her grandma, with determination in her eyes. She had lost control, roaring like a mad person.

"I will fight until I die with those who dare to hurt my grandma." Caregiver rushed forward, trembling all over, but still stood in front of Harper to protect Whitney. She didn't dare to confront these women. They were clearly wealthy and powerful. Initially, she wanted to run away, but she couldn't bear to leave Harper and Whitney behind. Tears streamed down her face as she stared at the onlookers, trembling with fear. She said, "These people are all horrible. Don't believe what they say... Harper is a good and innocent girl..."

The surrounding crowd started discussing in whispers. Although they didn't dare to help, they voiced their condemnation.

Harper wiped the blood off her face, stood up straight, took out her phone, and took pictures of the women across from her. She looked at them and said word by word, "You framed, slandered, and assaulted me and my Grandma. None of you can escape from the punishment."

The women who had come together hesitated. They were only obeying their best friend's command to help her seek justice, with each person getting two thousand dollars as a reward. They didn't know if this young girl was really a third party in a relationship, and they all came from decent families and didn't want to get involved in trouble.

Seeing their hesitation, Harper knew that the situation had taken a turn. Some of the women who came with the lady leading them began to question whether they had beaten the wrong person. It was truly excessive for several women to bully an old lady and a young girl.

At this moment, a woman walked in from outside. She had red hair and pink lips, strutting in with a pair of high heels, glancing at others in the room arrogantly.

"Do you have any evidence to support the claim that she is a third party in a relationship?" The woman's inquiry seemed to help Harper, but when Harper looked up at her, her heart skipped a beat.

The woman speaking was Amelia Brin.

In the next second, Amelia warmly approached Harper and expressed concern. "Harper, are you alright? Look at your swollen face. These people have gone too far."

The woman opposite stared at Amelia and asked coldly, "Do you know her?"

"Yes, I know her. What are you doing? You should have evidence before you do such a thing." Amelia had a righteous look on her face, and everyone thought there would be a turn.

Amelia smiled, but her eyes were as piercing as those of a venomous snake. In a voice only they could hear, she whispered in Harper's ear, "Harper, I have a special gift for you from Chloe."
