Chapter 287 I Don't Feel Anything for You

"No way," Francis shot back without hesitation.

Jasper sneered, "This isn't your call. Five years apart is enough, even with marriage papers."

Francis stood firm, "I'm not divorcing Harper. You can't decide for her."

Jasper didn't expect Francis to still have hopes about Harper. He looked around and said calmly, "When Harper wakes up, I'll tell her everything. She deserves to know. Given all she's been through because of you, I hope you'll respect her decision and stop pushing her."

Jasper planned to lay it all out for Harper. "Don't you think her amnesia is a blessing for you? If she remembered everything, how do you think she'd feel about you? I'm sure you get that, Mr. Getty."

Francis turned pale, but he knew Jasper had a point.

"One more thing," Jasper added. "You know Harper has a child, right? Allen, her psychologist, fell for her, and they had a kid. Sadly, Allen died before their wedding, leaving Harper with the child."

Jasper wanted Francis to know Harper had found love and had a child after leaving him. Her life without Francis was happy and full.

Francis's face twisted, his lips trembling, "Why are you telling me this?"

"I'm sure you could've found out on your own," Jasper said. He had carefully crafted Agnes's identity, but there was always a risk of discovery.

It was better to come clean and clear Francis's doubts than let him find out on his own. He and Harper couldn't afford to lose Agnes.

After a moment, Francis took a deep breath and said, "I promise not to force her, but I won't give up either."

Jasper was about to respond when the treatment inside ended.

He grabbed the doctor, "How's Harper?"

"Ms. Murphy's nerves haven't fully healed yet," the doctor said, his tone measured but serious. "Any external stress can cause her to faint. Frequent fainting is detrimental to her recovery."

Jasper's heart sank.

Seeing Harper awake, he rushed inside.

Francis tried to follow but was shut out.

"Wait here," Jasper said, closing the door.

They talked inside, and Harper occasionally glanced at Francis outside.

Francis had no idea what Jasper was telling her, and it felt like waiting for a verdict.

Finally, their conversation ended.

Jasper opened the door and said, "Harper wants to talk to you."

Inside, it was just Francis and Harper.

Francis stared at Harper's lovely face, emotions swirling in his eyes. All he wanted was to hold her.

Harper couldn't read his gaze and asked curiously, "Are you really my husband?"

To Francis, the word "husband" sounded sweet.

He smiled warmly, "Yes, I'm your husband."

Harper still found it hard to believe. Jasper's words had been a lot to take in.

One thing was clear.

Harper asked seriously, "When are you free?"

Francis's eyes softened, "Anytime, to be with you."

He'd drop billion-dollar deals in a heartbeat for her.

Harper stood up and smiled, "Then let's go."

Francis was momentarily confused but felt a sense of relief. The Murphy family must have spoiled Harper, making her seem quirky now. She hadn't suffered much in the past five years.

He wanted to hold her hand but held back, asking gently, "Where to?"

Harper thought he was playing dumb and said bluntly, "To get a divorce."

"What?" Francis was caught off guard, his face turning frosty.

"To get a divorce," Harper repeated. "Jasper told me about our past. You should know my situation. I see you as a stranger now, so there's no way we can continue as a couple."

Francis's face turned cold. "Why not? You are my wife."

"But I have no memory of you. You feel like a stranger, and I don't want to continue being your wife," Harper said firmly, making Francis panic.

He lowered his head, "I won't force you to accept me right away. Let's spend some time together. I swear I'll be good to you, okay?"

"No way," Harper shook her head, leaving no room for negotiation. "Being a couple requires feelings. I have none for you now. I probably didn't like you much before either, or I wouldn't have forgotten you completely."

Unlike when she thought of Allen, whose memories filled her mind with warmth, Francis felt like a stranger.

Moreover, Francis had been entangled with his first love, ignored her kidnapping, and caused her to lose their child. She wouldn't make the same mistake again.

Every word Harper said was like a blade piercing Francis's heart.

Francis felt his heartache to the point of stopping; even his breathing halted. He tightly grasped her wrist, his eyes cold, "I won't allow it."

Harper found it somewhat amusing and reminded him, "It's been five years. Mr. Getty, five years of separation is grounds for divorce. If you insist, then wait for the court's notice."

Times had changed. The Murphy family had the financial resources and good lawyers and could file a lawsuit.

"Mr. Getty, I'll give you three days to think it over. After that, it'll still be over." Harper finished speaking, ignored the pain on Francis's face, and left the room.

No matter how good-looking he was, she couldn't accept him crossing her bottom line.

Francis snapped out of it and tried to chase after her, but Jasper stopped him. "Mr. Getty, you just promised me you wouldn't force Harper."

Francis angrily shook off Jasper's arms, his eyes bloodshot. "Do you think the Murphy family can beat me?"

"You're right. In Northfield, the Murphy family might not beat the Getty family. But..." Jasper's eyes flashed with determination. "For Harper, the Murphy family will spare no expense, even if it means losing everything."
