Chapter 163 Pursuing Someone Requires Thick Skin

Francis' expression immediately turned sour. Harper sneered, "If it's not enough, there's nothing I can do. I won't order a man that costs more than this."

It was the first time she had spoken such degrading words, but he had disrespected her first. Knowing she was attending an important event, he tore her dress and humiliated her in the restroom. She not only had to retaliate but also had to humiliate him even more.

"Harper." Francis' expression grew even more unpleasant, and his eyes were filled with barely contained fury.

"Does that make you angry? I thought you could take more." Harper clutched her chest and chuckled lightly. “Here's a piece of advice. If money is tight for you, it isn't enough to look handsome. With such a bad temper, you won't earn anything."

His face was as cold and piercing as a snow-capped mountain, and his gaze seemed as if he might strangle her the next second. Harper showed no fear but stubbornly raised her head to meet his eyes.

Every time, she was left speechless with anger. Today, she finally managed to render him speechless, and the feeling of satisfaction was indescribable. Francis stared at her, and they stood in silent confrontation. After a long while, he finally curled his lips into a smile, pushed open the door, and walked out without a word.

Only then did Harper relax and collapse onto the toilet seat as her heart was pounding uncontrollably. Francis had pushed her to the brink. He was right about one thing, that was, her body didn’t lie. After just a month of abstinence, she was already aroused by him, which was truly embarrassing. It made her question herself and wondered if anyone could stir her emotions.

This was certainly not a good thing. Although she had the upper hand just now, if she truly angered Francis, she might not be able to walk out unscathed.

After pondering for a while, she dispelled the chaotic thoughts from her mind. The most important thing now was to work hard, pay off her debt, and save enough money for her studies abroad. That way, she could stay far away from him, and no one would be able to disturb her peace of mind.

As she stood up, wondering how to leave, she looked up and saw Francis' forgotten suit hanging on the hook.

It was a godsend.

His suit, draped over her, covered half of her thighs. She didn't care about disliking him anymore and wrapped the suit tightly around herself before leaving the hall and hailing a cab.

Once in the cab, she dared call Keith to tell him she had got into trouble and had to leave early.

Keith's voice was particularly gentle on the phone, and he asked if she felt unwell. Instantly, Harper's guilt multiplied several times over. Compared to that devil, Francis, Keith was like an angel. She couldn't help but apologize to Keith again.

Little did she know, Keith was standing at the hotel entrance and watching the cab that carried her away. His eyes were cold, but his voice was as gentle as ever. "Get some rest, Harper."

The call ended. Keith's warm smile froze in an instant. He had actually considered treating her well. But seeing her still entangled with Francis, he lost his patience. He needed to speed things up.

After leaving, Francis drove straight to a bar. Wesley was there too, and after a few drinks, he couldn't match Francis. Lighting a cigarette and holding it between his fingers, he said, "Your dad is pretty informative. As soon as he heard about your divorce, he came back to pressure you into a date."

Francis' face was cold and dark. "Did you find that woman?"

Wesley shook his head. "Not yet. How could a woman disappear into thin air? Maybe she was really dead."

Francis remained silent for a few seconds before saying, "Even if she's dead, that child of hers is definitely alive. Ryan is determined to fight for the inheritance, which was most likely to leave it to that woman's child."

"He's trying so hard to hide that child. Play along with him for now and wait for him to slip up," Francis advised.

Wesley's eyes sparkled with mischief. "I don't believe they have no contact at all."

Francis said nothing, tilting his head back to drink. Wesley, seeing him drink continuously, teased, "What's the matter? Having trouble pursuing your wife?"

Instantly, Francis' face turned cold.

Wesley grew more interested. "Looks like Harper has given you quite a hard time. How about some tips from me?"

Wesley knew Francis too well. After all, Francis had always been high and mighty and never bowed his head to any woman. His pursuits were likely the cause of his frustration.

Francis looked up, and his gaze was cold. "Why aren’t you married?"

Wesley was momentarily speechless. Francis was truly a dog. Even at this time, he mocked Wesley for not having a wife. No wonder he couldn't successfully reconcile.

Having drunk enough, Francis stood up to leave. Wesley, considering how much Francis had spent, decided to give him some advice. "Francis, a woman requires the right attitude, and most importantly, you need to have thick skin."

Whether Francis understood it was within Wesley's control. After leaving the bar, Francis returned to the office and made do with a night's sleep. Since the divorce, he hadn't returned to Moou for a long time. Going back there would only remind him of Harper and deepen his obsession. He feared he might resort to coercion to bring her back. He didn't want to treat her that way.

The next morning, Ryan brought Lily to see Francis. Her eyes were red as soon as she saw him. Yesterday, she had chased after Francis' car for nearly two miles but couldn't catch up. It was her first date with a stranger, and she couldn't bear how it ended up, so she complained to Ryan. In front of her father, Eugene Sullivan, Ryan acted very protectively and immediately brought Lily to demand an explanation.

Seeing Ryan with a girl, Francis frowned and asked, "Who is this?"

Lily burst into tears. What a humiliation! They had just met yesterday and today, he had forgotten her.

Ryan, having just assured Eugene confidently, felt his face burning with embarrassment. He angrily whispered, "This is Lily, who you just met yesterday!"

Only then did Francis realize. Yesterday, his mind had been entirely on Harper, and he hadn't even given a glance at this girl.

Ryan gently coaxed Lily, "Lily, go to the lounge first. I'll have my secretary send you something nice to eat. I'll talk to Francis, and later, I'll have him take you out to make it up to you."

Lily, looking at the man who was as handsome as a painting, blushed and ran out crying.

Once the door closed, Francis coldly said, "I don't have time to entertain her. If you like her so much, you can take her out."

Seeing Francis' unyielding attitude, Ryan's face turned cold. "Don't tell me you're still hung up on your ex-wife?"

Francis suddenly looked up at him and his eyes were filled with a chilling fury.

Ryan, sensing an opportunity, said, "Francis, everything I did is for the betterment of the company. Don't push me to go against an outsider."
