Chapter 273 It's Not My Child

Harper almost laughed at the familiar opening line but kept listening.

Francis tightened his grip and said, "The baby Chloe's carrying isn't mine."

Harper sneered, "Do I look stupid? If it's not yours, why keep her around?"

"I had my reasons," Francis explained. "One day, I'll tell you everything, but not now."

Harper felt nothing, almost laughed at his lame excuse. She wasn't even worth a decent lie.

Seeing her silence, Francis panicked, grabbed her hands, and said, "I won't divorce you. Stop thinking about leaving."

He'd been staying at the office, afraid he couldn't control his emotions at home. He realized he couldn't handle her leaving.

When Harper tried to sneak away, he had lost it. After thinking it over, he decided to accept the baby. He couldn't let go, so he'd take everything.

He still hoped the baby might be his. He'd been impulsive lately. He couldn't just trust Keith, that sneaky bastard.

Whether the baby was his or not, he'd accept it. He planned to talk Harper out of her anger and get her to confess about the baby.

Harper exploded, "Francis, have you been lying to me all along?"

The marriage agreement was just to trap her.

Francis admitted, "I didn't lie. I had selfish reasons for remarrying. Even without my grandfather, I wanted to remarry you. So stay with me. I won't let you go."

Harper felt numb. She knew if she got emotional, Francis would lock her up again.

She smiled bitterly and said calmly, "Okay, I want to see Molly."

Francis paused, met her gaze, and asked, "What did you just say?"

Harper smiled serenely, "I'll stay with you."

"Harper," Francis hugged her tightly, relieved. "You must believe me about Chloe. I won't lie to you."

Harper looked out the window, "I believe you."

But inside, she thought, 'This is the last time I believe you.'

The gullible Harper was gone.

Francis sensed something was off. Her shift was too easy.

Harper's voice was low and choked, "Can you take me to see Molly now?"

Thinking about the Koch family, Francis frowned and drove her to the memorial hall.

When they arrived, Molly stood like a zombie among the guests. Robert was outside, far from the main hall.

Seeing Robert agitated Molly, so he stayed away.

Francis and Robert exchanged words, while Harper ignored Robert and went inside.

She stood beside Molly and whispered, "Molly."

Harper's voice broke, and she hugged Molly tightly, crying uncontrollably.

Her voice touched Molly's numb heart. Molly finally broke down and cried loudly, hugging Harper.

They cried together, both feeling oppressed and in pain.

After a while, Harper helped Molly to a side room to rest. Francis and Robert didn't follow.

They had private things to discuss.

Once inside, Harper asked, "Why? Why Mr. Koch..."

Molly summarized, "It's about our company."

"What's your plan now?" Harper asked.

Molly shook her head. She had no idea. Leah was sick at home, and she had to handle everything here. She still couldn't accept how things had turned out.

Molly felt like she was sleepwalking, hoping to wake up and find Harrison at home, with the three of them happy again. But reality said otherwise.

They cried together for a while.

Before leaving, Harper asked, "Molly, do you have your phone? Can I borrow it to make a call?"

Molly handed it over without hesitation. She didn't realize Harper couldn't use her own phone, showing how tough things were under Francis's watch.

After Harper left, Molly went back to her spot, standing still as before.

As it got dark, another uninvited guest showed up.

Quinn, in a black wool coat, brought several wreaths. Robert was outside smoking and didn't see her.

Quinn walked in and was about to pay her respects when she heard a roar, "Get out!"

Though there weren't many people around, Molly's shout embarrassed Quinn.

Quinn said maliciously, "Molly, I'm here to pay my respects. Don't be ungrateful."

Molly's eyes were red as she glared at Quinn, "Don't disturb my dad."

"Disturb?" Quinn laughed, "Do you really think your dad needs me to disturb him?"

Molly didn't want to deal with her, "Are you leaving, or should I have security drag you out?"

"Oh, so fierce," Quinn mocked. "Look who it is. Molly from the bankrupt Koch family threatening me. I'm so scared!"

Molly's eyes were bloodshot, and she looked ready to tear Quinn apart.

"Molly, I've got some good news," Quinn said ominously.

Before Molly could speak, Quinn smiled, "Isn't it strange your mom didn't come even though your dad died?"

Molly clenched her fists, "What are you trying to say?"

"No one told you your mom is in a coma?"

Molly stared at her, uneasy but unsure. A company staffer had told her Leah was sick and resting at home.

"What are you saying? Just spill it," Molly demanded.

"How impatient!" Quinn said softly. "I went to the hospital today and heard your mom was there too."

She moved closer and showed Molly a video. "Your mom fell down the stairs. Too much blood in her brain. The doctor said there's no point in trying to save her. She'll never wake up."

Molly felt like she was struck by lightning! Leah wasn't resting at home? How could she be lying in the hospital like that?

"Congratulations, you've lost both parents in one day," Quinn said venomously. "When it rains, it pours."

Quinn was gloating, unaware of Molly's changing expression.

"I handed over your dad's contract. Didn't expect my stone to kill two birds. Shame I missed your dad's tragic fall."

In an instant, Molly's eyes turned blood-red.

Her parents could have had a good retirement, but now her dad was gone, and her mom was in a coma. And the one responsible was standing here, mocking them.

"You wicked bitch! I'll kill you!" Molly erupted with strength and shoved Quinn's head into the scalding incense burner!

The room was filled with blood-curdling screams.
