Chapter 487 Three and a Half Months

Anyone could see Francis had Harper's back, no doubt about it. Every word he spat out felt like a slap, smacking Audrey right in the face.

Audrey's newfound confidence crumbled in an instant; Francis himself had just confirmed she was the outsider.

Abigail jumped in, "Oh, Francis, what are you saying? Audrey sees me as her own mother. This place is like her home."

Audrey's stiff expression softened a bit. She forced a dry smile, "Francis, I didn't mean anything by it."

Francis couldn't care less and turned to Abigail, "If you got something to say, just say it. Harper can hear it all."

His protective tone was crystal clear. Abigail had no choice but to speak, "Francis, you cut off all ties with the Hernandez family, and their stock's tanking. If it gets worse, they might go under. Don't you think that's a bit much? Audrey's carrying your kid, after all. For the sake of the child, you should at least go easy on the Hernandez family."

Francis shot back coldly, "Mom, this is already a light punishment for Mr. Hernandez's sake. Otherwise, just based on Audrey and Ryan's collusion, our legal team at Getty Group could go all out against her."

Audrey's face went pale as she explained, "Francis, you got it all wrong. It wasn't me; Ryan came to me first, saying it was your idea. I've already explained this to Mom."

Abigail backed her up, "That's right, Francis. I can vouch for her. Audrey would never betray you. For the sake of the child..."

"The child," Francis sneered, "I've said it a million times. I'm not the father of Audrey's child. Even if you want a grandkid, you can't just claim any child as ours."

"Francis, you're definitely the father of my child." Audrey looked heartbroken and wailed, "Whether you admit it or not, I will give birth to this child. If you don't acknowledge it, I'll raise it myself!"

Despite her words, Audrey was actually threatening Francis in a roundabout way. Once the child was born, the consequences would be significant, and Francis surely knew that.

Although the Getty family didn't recognize illegitimate children, Audrey was pregnant while Francis was still single, so this child wouldn't be considered illegitimate. This child was Audrey's bargaining chip.

Moreover, before the child was born, Harper should be killed, according to Audrey's plan. To her mind, the only woman Francis could marry was Audrey, and only her in this lifetime! Because any woman who got close to him would disappear without a trace, just like how Audrey made Harper disappear before.

Last time, Harper was lucky, but this time it would be different.

Audrey lowered her head, and a flash of malice in her eyes quickly disappeared.

Francis said expressionlessly, "I don't care, but this child has nothing to do with the Getty family."

Audrey's tears flowed uncontrollably and she said, "Francis, do you really not care about our past? The five years I spent with you mean nothing?"

Her words sounded like an accusation of Francis's irresponsibility. Francis found it gross and worried Harper might overthink it. He squinted his eyes and asked coldly, "What exactly happened between us in those five years?"

Audrey, full of tears and grievances, said, "Francis, I'm not using our past to force you to take responsibility for me, but you should at least take responsibility for the child, instead of making me bear it alone."

Audrey's words were ambiguous. It seemed like she was answering Francis's question, but also like she wasn't saying anything at all. For a man of dignity like Francis, he should never refute her over this.

Francis's patience finally ran out. He frowned and said, "Audrey, are you saying that the benefits Ryan gave you weren't enough, or that the profits you made at the Getty Group fell short?"

Audrey's face turned pale and she felt as if her facade had been stripped away. "Francis, are you accusing me just for another woman?" Audrey bit her lip and cried, "Is the next step to get rid of our child for her?"

Harper was really impressed; Audrey's acting was so fake. If there was no trust between them, Audrey's provocation could have caused a serious argument.

"Audrey," Harper suddenly spoke up, "you always talk about your five years with Francis together. Do you have any substantial events to share? How could you spend five years with Francis and leave no single memorable moment to talk about?"

Audrey's expression froze, her face glowing with embarrassment. She bit her lip hard and said, "No matter what you say, it doesn't erase the fact that Francis loved me."

Audrey just wanted to disgust Harper! If it weren't for Harper, Francis would have eventually fallen in love with her. It was all Harper's fault.

Harper's eyes were calm as she looked at Audrey without flinching and said, "So, Audrey, did you get pregnant on the first try? Where and when did it happen?"

Audrey looked at Harper like she was a monster, not understanding why she would ask such questions! Wasn't she supposed to avoid such a topic?

Harper actually didn't care at all. Since it was a contest of who could be more infuriating, Harper certainly wouldn't lose.

Harper wrapped her arms around Francis's and smiled, "If you can't even answer these details, how can I believe you were ever in love?"

Harper added, "You see, you can't even clarify how and when this child came to be. Such simple questions, and you can't answer them?"

Audrey was furious. But she kept repeating, "Francis is the father."

Seeing that Abigail was fine, Francis didn't want to stay any longer. He took Harper's hand and prepared to leave.

Abigail couldn't stop Francis from leaving and anxiously propped herself up, shouting, "Francis, stop. How can you treat Audrey like this? Even if Audrey can't answer, I know. She's been pregnant for three and a half months. I believe Audrey; this is definitely your child."

Francis's brow furrowed, and he stopped in his tracks.
