Chapter 190 Never Be Entangle with Him Anymore

Surveying Harper's pallid complexion, Ryan's thoughts raced, 'She's really from nowhere, huh? With little spoken, she already seems on the edge.'

Considering how his own son had stood against him for her, his anger simmered.

He didn't know Francis got hurt saving Harper; he just thought it was an accident. If he knew the truth, he'd be even more arrogant.

"Fine, given you two are split, keep away from Francis. Don't be an eyesore." Ryan's gaze dripped with disdain as he continued to diminish her.

Normally, he wouldn't waste time on someone like her.

But the way Francis defended Harper made him cautious.

Even though he and Francis didn't always get along, Francis at least answered his questions with indifference and rarely stood up to him.

Seeing her now, he knew what changed him.

Francis was blinded by beauty.

Before she could mess things up, he had to warn her.

Harper clenched her fists and spoke up before Ryan could leave, "I'm sorry, Mr. Getty, but I can't agree with you."

Ryan paused, his face darkening as he looked at her.

Harper raised her head and said calmly, "I don't think there's anything shameful or disgraceful about me."

Even though she came from a humble background and had lost her parents early, she never felt inferior.

She was grateful for the loving elder who cared for her.

Her previous feelings of inferiority towards Francis were more about him than his family.

Francis was impressive. In his early twenties, he had earned dual bachelor's degrees abroad and created industry miracles.

In the business world, his achievements at his age were unparalleled globally.

Sure, part of it was due to their family differences, but she focused on improving herself. She might not match him, but she wanted to get better.

Ryan hadn't expected her to have the guts to talk back, given her usually gentle demeanor.

His face darkened, and his eyes were full of mockery. "Don't be naive. People born in Rome and people born in a small town will never be on the same level!"

Ryan's argument was illogical, but it always worked for him.

Anyone who wasn't mentally strong would quickly be defeated by his brainwashing and belittling remarks.

But Harper had grown strong over the years, like a resilient weed.

She absorbed sunlight and rain, and her heart remained healthy and upward. She wouldn't be easily defeated by a few words from him.

Her face remained calm as she said lightly, "I know you have a broader vision, but let me give you some advice; I hope your thoughts match your position. You'd learn better than to see people with a narrow mind."

Her words implied that Ryan was unworthy of his position, looking down on others from a high place.

Immediately, Ryan's expression turned ugly.

He thought Harper was sharp-tongued.

Instantly, he dropped the pretense and said viciously, "Just because you were married to Francis for two years doesn't mean you can make him defy me. If you anger me, I can't guarantee you'll still exist in this world."

Ryan's threat was clear as day: if Harper didn't fall in line, he'd make her disappear.

Harper was genuinely shocked by his malice.

No wonder Francis never talked about him; they must have had deep-seated conflicts and completely different values.

Seeing Harper stay silent, Ryan thought she was scared and sneered, "Francis' two years with you, I'll just consider it as him paying for a prostitute. You've enjoyed the life of a wealthy woman, but now it's time to go back to where you belong. Stay away from Francis."

His words were crude and disgusting.

Harper looked at Ryan and asked, "Mr. Getty, what's scaring you?"

Ryan felt a twinge of guilt under her gaze.

He had said such harsh words because he was indeed afraid they would reconcile and disrupt his plans.

"Ridiculous. What do you think you have that can scare me!"

Ryan's eyes gleamed with pride as he said, "To tell you the truth, Francis asked me last night to discuss his engagement with Lily Sullivan. They will be getting married soon."

'Francis is getting married?' Harper thought.

She was stunned.

If he had already decided to marry Lily, why did he risk his life to save her and say those things?

Ryan was pleased to see Harper's pale face, feeling extremely satisfied.

"As Francis' father, it's my duty to clear away annoying obstacles for my future daughter-in-law. Or are you planning to be Francis's mistress?"

His insulting words and disdainful gaze made Harper feel like she was being grilled, as if he was determined to strip her of a layer of skin.

Her hands trembled so much that she could barely hold on, but she managed to calm down with great effort.

She pressed her lips together and said, "Don't worry. I will never be anyone's mistress. Since he is engaged, I will not be entangled with him anymore."

At that moment, the elevator opened.

Harper looked up and saw the people coming out.

The girl at the back was wearing a beige wool coat and a beret, looking playful and cute.

She recognized her at once; it was Lily.

The woman in front, who bore some resemblance to Lily, was probably Lily's mother.

Harper felt a surge of indescribable emotions.

Learning about their engagement made her feel vulnerable to see Lily.

Because Francis had saved her, she had almost forgotten Lily's coquettish and flirty voice in the tent that night.

Now, with that horrible memory in her mind, her cheeks felt like they were being slapped by an invisible hand.

At this moment, she felt extremely bitter.

Perhaps Francis saved her just out of guilt for her losing the child.

Everything was just her overthinking.

Harper silently stepped aside, not blocking their way.

Ryan's expression changed almost instantly, warmly shaking hands with the middle-aged woman. "Mrs. Sullivan, what brings you here?"

Mia Sullivan said, "I heard that Francis got injured being a hero, so I came to see him."

Harper's face turned even paler.

So, this was how they defined the situation.

Indeed, people would gossip if Francis had left his fiancée to save another woman.

Ryan said, "It's very thoughtful of you."

Mia said with a smile, "We'll soon be family. It's the least I can do."

Mia's words were particularly affectionate.
