Chapter 499 I Miss Him So Much

Harper was out cold for what felt like forever. In her dream, she was just drifting around in this endless ocean, totally lost and confused.

The water was pitch black and freezing, no light anywhere. She swam until she was dead tired, feeling completely lost and helpless.

Every time she thought she was done for, a voice would call out, "Harper."

Still dark as night around her. But she heard it clear as day; it was the voice she was looking for. She mustered up all her strength and swam upwards. Finally, she saw a tiny bit of light and headed for it.

The sound of the sliding door snapped Harper out of her long sleep. She slowly opened her eyes, feeling super dizzy.

Her vision was still fuzzy when she saw a tall, handsome figure coming her way. Francis's deep, dark eyes made her head spin. Tears started pouring down her face like a waterfall.

She called out, "Francis,"

She struggled to get up and throw herself at him. He caught her and said, "Easy there."

Harper buried her face in his chest, hugging him tight. She had so much to say, but no words came out.

Francis gently patted her back, his voice deep and soothing, "Why are you losing weight again? Are you eating properly?"

Harper couldn't say anything, just held him and cried.

Francis sighed, "Harper, you gotta be strong, okay?"

Harper shook her head. She wanted to say, "I don't need to be strong, as long as you're here." But her throat was all choked up, and she couldn't get a word out.

Francis lowered his head, gently wiped her tears with his thumb, and said softly, "Stop crying. You'll hurt your eyes."

Harper tried to smile, but the tears just kept coming.

"Harper, I'm worried about you," he said.

Harper trembled, feeling like her blood turned to ice. She seemed to get something, her palms clenched tight, but she couldn't hold onto anything.

She watched as Francis's figure got further and further away until he was completely gone. She couldn't see him anymore.

"Francis!" Harper finally shouted.

But there was nothing in front of her except the white walls and cold air.

Nothing at all.

"Harper!" A familiar voice called out. Harper turned her head mechanically. It was Molly.

She rushed over and hugged Harper tight, crying, "You're finally awake."

Harper's body was so thin, it made her heart ache.

After holding her for a long time, Molly finally let go. She told Harper, "Jasper is back, and Agnes is with Zoey. We still don't know..."

Harper listened quietly and after a while asked, "How long have I been out?"

Molly was stunned, not expecting that to be her first question. "A week," she said.

Harper blinked lightly. Only a week, but it felt like a century.

Later, Jasper came in to check on her while Molly helped Harper wash up, and then he left. Molly wiped her face with a towel, and Harper stayed super calm, cooperating without a fuss. Her extreme quietness made Molly's heart break.

Just like that, Harper went along with eating and taking her meds. She stayed in the hospital for another week. During this time, Zoey brought Agnes to see her, and everyone told Agnes that Harper just had a cold. Agnes was very well-behaved, not making a fuss, and after bringing Harper some fruit, she went home.

Soon, Harper also went home and got back to her normal work routine.

For some reason, the Getty Group didn't release any info to the public. For such big news, the group had their own reasons and wouldn't announce it right away.

Serenity Manor.

Jasper rolled in around noon, clutching a document. He watched Harper bustling around, making coffee and bringing him fruit, feeling all kinds of mixed up.

For half a month since she woke up, Harper hadn't mentioned Francis once, didn't even ask about him, which had everyone around her on edge.

When Harper brought the coffee over, Jasper said, "Harper, we need to talk."

Harper saw the familiar handwriting on the document and froze. She said softly, "Jasper, let me get you some fruit."

It was clear she didn't want to talk. But Jasper couldn't let her keep dodging it. He grabbed her arm and pushed her onto the sofa, saying firmly, "I don't need anything. Sit down."

Maybe he used too much force, and Harper wobbled unsteadily. Jasper immediately squatted down, asking with concern, "Did I hurt you?"

"No," Harper answered blankly. In just half a month, she had lost so much weight, she looked like a strong breeze could knock her over.

The longer Jasper looked at her, the more his heart ached.

"Harper, this is what he left for you." Jasper handed the document to Harper.

Harper opened the envelope very gently, her fingers trembling as she saw the will. The thin sheets of paper slipped from her grasp.

"Testator: Francis Getty.

Except for the portion given to my mother Abigail, I give all remaining assets to my beloved Harper Murphy."

Jasper never knew how to comfort people. In his own way, he said, "Harper, there are rumors in the Getty Group that Francis is dead, and I've heard that Ryan will hold a press conference tomorrow morning to announce Francis's accidental death. It's said that his next move is to push Keith into Francis's position."

Jasper's fingers clenched unconsciously as he added, "These are all left for you and Agnes by Francis, including the shares. Whatever you decide to do, I will back you up, no questions asked."

In her current state, Harper was definitely not able to handle these matters.

The entire company was now being held together by Victor and his team, who were demanding punishment for those spreading rumors. But Ryan seemed to have obtained a video of Francis's death in the explosion, which was why he was so confident about the press conference.

Harper's hands kept trembling, tears falling one after another onto the paper without making a sound. Seeing her like this, Jasper felt heartbroken.

Suddenly, Harper's face twisted in pain, and she clutched her chest tightly. Jasper panicked. Immediately, he squatted down to pat her back and asked, "Harper, are you okay?"

"Jasper, he's not dead." Harper clung tightly to Jasper's arm, trying hard to hold back her sobs but failing.

Jasper was at a loss, his eyes also welling up.

She had promised Francis to be strong, and she had kept that facade for half a month, but at this moment, she completely broke down.

Harper thought that as long as she was strong and lived a normal and busy life, maybe, just maybe, Francis would pop up, but he didn't. Nothing happened. Just like everyone said, Francis was gone, completely gone.

For the past half month, Harper shuddered to think about him. She shuddered to think about what Francis felt at that moment when he took her place. And that gentle kiss on her forehead, how reluctant it must have been.

With the memory back in her mind, Harper felt her heart being hollowed out, leaving only an empty echo as the wind blew through. She clutched the will tightly, doubled up in pain, and cried out loud, "Jasper, I don't believe it. I miss him so much."
