Chapter 149 Not Wanting Any Connection With Him

When he first kissed her, it was because he found her words infuriating.

He wanted to shut that incessantly talking mouth.

But when he actually felt the softness of her lips, his simple intention changed.

His body was telling him that he wanted her.

He wanted to get closer to her and to cuddle intimately with her.

Harper struggled, but her hands were completely pinned down by him, so she was unable to move.

She could only turn away her head to avoid his burning lips, but Francis grabbed her chin and continued to kiss her mercilessly, from her lips to her chin and even further down.

In the end, they both fell onto the back seat of the car.

"Francis." Harper's expression was already very unpleasant.

But he didn't listen at all. Instead, he went further and reached to pull off her coat.

Harper took advantage of the moment and reached out to slap him across the face.
The crisp sound was especially loud in the confined space.

Harper thought he would definitely be angry.

But Francis wasn't angry at all. He just stared at her and asked, "Is one slap enough? For what I'm about to do, one slap shouldn't be enough."

"Are you crazy? We're divorced. Legally and in reality, we're strangers completely."

Harper was genuinely furious. Given their current relationship, he had no reason to kiss her.

She sternly warned him as she said, "You can't kiss me, you can't touch me, and you definitely can't force me to have sex with you. Understand?"

After saying that, Harper immediately moved to the side, far away from him.

His body and his touch were too easily bringing back old memories for her.

"Okay."

Harper was stunned and felt that Francis was being so agreeable that it made her suspicious.

Sure enough, the next second, he said, "Since you said we're divorced, I'll take my divorce gift."
Harper was momentarily confused.

It took her a few seconds to realize he was referring to the harsh words she said when she forced him to divorce her at the hospital.

"You're crazy," Harper refused without hesitation.

They were already divorced, and now he wanted to do this.

Francis looked at her, and his cold voice was particularly icy as he said, "The divorce was your trick, and the divorce gift was your promise. I don't accept being fooled by you."

Harper was still shocked by how unreasonable his words were.

He continued, "Have sex with me once, and I won't bother you anymore."

His voice seemed deliberately slowed, with a hint of coaxing.

Harper was stunned.

Her first reaction was that his promise was unreliable, but she didn't realize how absurd his proposal actually was.

Having sex with her once was far from enough for Francis. It was just an excuse he made up.

He saw the hesitation in her eyes and said coldly, "Otherwise, it's not going to be that easy for me to let go of your lie."

Now Harper understood and angrily said, "You bastard."

Was this a negotiation?

It was clearly a threat. If she didn't agree, he would continue to bug her.

Even if she agreed, would he really stop bothering her as he said?

Moreover, they weren't even divorced at that time. She was just angry and trying to provoke him.

Now, when he brought it up again, it carried a sense of humiliation and degradation.

Thinking of this, her eyes turned red, and her voice trembled as she said, "Francis, do you look down on me? Just because I initiated sex with you that time when I was drunk, you think so little of me. Is that it?"

Francis looked at her red eyes and felt a bit panicked.

When had he ever looked down on her?

In the end, he said all this to coax her back to him.

Plus, ever since he found out the truth about her tricking him at the bar last time, he had been very angry. Today, she was trying to sever ties with him again, and he was indeed very upset with her.

That's why he resorted to any means to keep her by his side.

But seeing her eyes filled with tears, he still felt heartache.

Francis' voice softened, and he tried to explain, "That's not what I meant."

"Then what do you mean?"

The more Harper thought about it, the angrier she got, and tears started to roll down her cheeks.
Ignoring her wishes, he forced her into intimate interactions, and now he was making the outrageous demand for her to have sex with him. This clearly demonstrated that he despised her.

She no longer hesitated and said indifferently, "Stop talking and just do it. I want to see how you plan to get back at me."

Francis' expression changed.

Harper reached for the car door but didn’t forget to leave a harsh remark, "Francis, if you have the guts, make me submit. Otherwise, I will despise you."

Seeing her about to get out of the car, Francis reached out to grab her, but she slapped his hands away.

"Mr. Getty, if you're so desperate for a woman, just tell everyone and the women of Northfield will be at your disposal."

"Or you are just enjoying entangling with your ex-wife."

These words made Francis' handsome face cloud with deep anger.

In her eyes, was he really that desperate for a woman?

Harper sneered and sarcastically said, "Sorry that I don't like entangling with my ex-husband. If you like, you can find Chloe. After all, you two had a deep connection before we got married. I can't compare to her."

Harper brought up the emotional conflict between them once again.

But seeing Francis' extremely gloomy expression, she knew her words hurt him deeply, though it also hurt her a bit.

Thinking of this, she felt quite pleased.

The door opened, and Victor stood outside, holding a stack of IOUs.

Harper's expression changed slightly, and she asked Victor, "Victor, do you have paper and a pen?"

Victor nodded and took out paper and a pen from his briefcase.

Harper took them and started writing on the car body with great flair.

In no time, she was done.

Victor's expression changed as he saw the title IOU on the paper.

This was supposed to be a great opportunity for Francis and Harper to improve their relationship. Why did it suddenly turn into a debt issue?

Francis knew the specific content she wrote, and his expression turned sour on the spot.

Without a seal, Harper bit her thumb and winced in pain.

She pressed a bloody thumbprint next to her signature and handed it to Francis. She said, "Mr. Getty, I'll pay you back as soon as possible."

Francis looked at the flimsy piece of paper, and his face was burning hotter than from the slap earlier.

This paper showed that she truly didn't want any connection with him anymore.

Did she really despise him that much?

Harper had no interest in appreciating his expression. Just as he thought, she indeed didn’t want any further entanglement with him.

He thought, ‘She would rather owe money to the villagers than to me.’

But now the money was already in the villagers' hands, and she couldn't get it back.

In the end, it was her lack of confidence in herself. No matter how committed she sounded, deep down, she feared she wouldn't be firm enough and would fall into the same trap again.

She turned to leave but was grabbed by Francis.

His voice was hoarse and unstoppable as he said, "You know that's not what I want."

Harper gave a faint smile as she said, "But other than this, I have nothing else to give."

Her smile was like a knife stabbing into his heart, which was not painful but deeply sorrowful.

He suddenly pulled her into his arms, and his voice was trembling yet authoritative as he said, "You can't leave."

Harper couldn't break free and stomped down hard, only to hear a gentle male voice from behind.

"Harper."

In the moment Francis was distracted, Harper broke free from his embrace and was pulled behind Keith, who had just arrived to protect her.
