Chapter 83 Francis Was Framed
Francis faltered slightly and explained, "When your grandma had her accident, Chloe was still lying in bed. How could she be involved?"
Harper couldn't help but laugh when he heard that. "Francis, your promises mean nothing!"
He had such deep trust in Chloe that his initial reaction after hearing Harper’s question was not to investigate but to defend Chloe.
"Harper, I understand your feelings about losing Grandma. Don't let your thoughts run wild. I will definitely give you a satisfactory answer after I ask Amelia about everything."
"You can leave."
Harper found it ridiculous.
Harper thought, ‘To him, Chloe matters more than my grandma’s passing.
‘How ridiculous it is that I delude myself into thinking that I can replace Chloe and become his beloved?’
Francis looked at her smile and panicked as if something was rapidly slipping away.
He no longer cared about her refusal and tightly held her in his arms.
"Harper, I will win back your heart. Give me some time."
Harper tried to break free from his embrace but had little success. She decided to stop struggling.
She felt down. "Francis, let me go. Divorce would be good for both of us."
"No, I won’t."
Francis rejected her without hesitation, saying, "I don't agree. Don't even think about it."
Harper sarcastically asked, her words thick with irony, "What do you mean by that? Are you going to have a mistress while keeping me waiting for you at home as your wife?"
Francis's eyebrows furrowed. When he was about to say something, Harper pushed him aside.
"I'm telling you. I've made up my mind about this marriage. If you still want to preserve a shred of dignity for the Sackler family, go get the divorce certificate early, or else..."
There was not a hint of a smile on Harper's face as she firmly declared, "I will sue for divorce!"
This meant tearing off all pretenses.
The divorce dispute involving the CEO of Sackler Group would undoubtedly become explosive news.
Francis's face instantly turned gloomy, and he asked, "Harper, don’t you care about my grandfather anymore?"
If his grandfather, Dylan, found out that they had reached the point of suing each other, he would feel sad.
Harper couldn't bear hurting Dylan, but she believed Francis felt the same. Now, it was a matter of who would compromise first.
She ruthlessly said, "You forced me to do this."
At this moment, Francis found Harper so unfamiliar that he almost didn't recognize her.
Was she really so heartless?
Did she hate him this much?
But no matter what, Francis wouldn't let go, not of her or the child.
He wouldn't let her even think about it.
Francis said coldly, "Harper, which law firm do you think would dare to take your divorce case?"
"What do you mean?" Harper asked.
Francis sneered, "I don't mean anything. I just want you to give up. I won’t part from my child. Don't even think about the divorce."
Harper's heart sank.
She ignored the truth that Francis was the one who told others what to do in Northfield.
Even if a high-profile divorce case was like a tempting cake, as soon as he gave the order, no law firm would dare to stubbornly accept it.
Thinking of this, Harper felt somewhat desperate.
The reason Francis didn't want to divorce wasn't because he loved her but because he was afraid that his child would be part of him.
In that case, even if they divorced in the future, he wouldn't let her take the child away.
Harper clenched her fist tightly and forced herself to say something against her will, "Francis, the only reason you don't want to divorce is because of the baby, right?"
Francis stared at her with cold, charming eyes as if he had a premonition.
Harper gritted her teeth and blurted out, "If you won't agree to the divorce, I'll have an abortion."
After that, she thought, ‘Baby, Mom doesn't mean that. Mom is just in too much pain and wants a divorce as soon as possible. That's why I said that. I don't really mean to abort you. Don't be angry with me."
In an instant, a killing intent flashed in Francis's eyes, and he flew into a rage. "How dare you!"
Harper remained steadfast and said, "I won't let you control me anymore. This is my own baby, and I have the right to make choices."
She was determined to end this marriage.
The feeling of never being able to make a resolute choice was just too terrible.
She didn't want to be tormented over and over again.
Francis's rage got stronger, and he took a step forward, gripping her wrist, his gaze becoming ruthlessly intense. "Harper, I said it's not allowed so that you can leave."
...
Outside the hospital room, Chloe trembled with anger as she stood there with a fruit basket in her hands.
She thought, ‘Amelia is really an idiot. She couldn't even cause a miscarriage for Harper. Now, Francis knows about the child's existence, too.’
She had put in a lot of effort to keep Francis abroad for three more days, but he couldn't wait to return to the country before she even woke up, so she hurriedly flew back as well.
Today, she heard that they were in the hospital, so she came specifically to pretend to offer condolences and also to provoke Harper.
Unexpectedly, Chloe heard the conversation between Harper and Francis.
She thought, ‘Why is Francis so adamantly against getting a divorce? And why does Harper think I had a hand in this matter?’
Chloe was so angry that she shook, threw the fruit basket into the trash can, and turned to leave.
Xenia stopped her, "Miss Musk, are we leaving now?"
"Do you want me to see how Francis tries to keep that woman?" Her eyes turned red as she spoke fiercely. "Xenia, I really wish for her to die!"
Both of them understood what Chloe meant.
Xenia comforted her on the side. "Miss Musk, don't panic. I have an idea."
"What idea?"
"Do you still remember that Mr. Getty had been at Lufiend's subsidiary for an entire month about three and a half months ago? He even came to see you twice during that time."
Chloe nodded. Francis was indeed very busy during that period, and even when he came to see her, he would leave in a hurry, staying for no more than half an hour.
A sinister gleam flashed in Xenia's eyes as she reminded her, "If Harper happened to get pregnant during that time period, guess what Mr. Getty would think?"
Chloe's face revealed joy. What else would he think? He would definitely think that Harper had cuckolded him, and he would want to skin her alive.
But Chloe hesitated. "Would this work? Technology is quite advanced now. Would Francis believe it?"
Xenia smiled, "Miss Musk, as long as we plant a seed of doubt in their minds, even if she gets tested while pregnant, the results won't come out so quickly. And as for how things develop afterward, will it harm us?"
In the worst-case scenario, Harper would give birth to this child.
But the pregnancy would last for ten months. Who could guarantee that her child would be born safely?
Chloe and Xenia exchanged a smile, their thoughts aligning.
Chloe took out her phone and made a call to one of her father's old friends.
"Hello, this is Chloe. I would like to ask for your help. I am currently at the hospital with your family."
