Chapter 69 Wait and See
Seeing Harper's silence, Chloe continued, "Don't think that just because Francis asked me to explain, it means you've won. Everyone knows how long Northfield favored me. Do you believe that if anything unexpected happens to me now, Francis would immediately abandon you?"
Harper's eyes narrowed slightly, and she calmly said, "Are you scared?"
"You!" Chloe said so much, but she was scared.
This despicable person had already surpassed her. Why wouldn't she be scared?
However, she lost interest in the moment and thought it wasn't worth it to be too quick-witted.
In the end, she smiled and said, "Let's wait and see."
Before leaving, Chloe looked at Harper's belly with resentment.
She couldn't help but feel hatred and the urge to devour her flesh and blood.
That was supposed to be her place.
Soon, she would make this despicable person know how miserable her defeat was.
After Chloe left, Harper stood in place for a few seconds, allowing her heart to gradually calm down.
Chloe's question just struck a chord.
She asked if Harper was scared. How could she not be scared? Of course, she was scared.
She was even more scared than Chloe because if Francis was gone, Chloe still had a loving family.
But besides Delaney, Harper only had him.
However, people are sometimes stubborn and always have to experience severe pain before they are willing to give up.
This was something Harper only understood after going through her experiences.
After taking just a few steps outside, Harper encountered Keith.
He had his arm bound with a bandage and struggled to pick up the dropped water cup.
Harper quickly went forward, picked up the cup, and handed it to him.
Keith smiled gently when he saw her. "Harper."
She didn't ask why he was in the hospital, but she probably knew in her heart. It made Harper uncomfortable, as Keith was only injured because of her.
Seeing him holding the cup, it seemed inconvenient for him to twist it open. Harper quickly helped him and handed it over.
Keith didn't immediately take it, he just asked, "Could you please feed me?"
Only then did Harper see that his other hand was also injured.
She lifted the drink to his mouth, and Keith took a sip. It wasn't as sweet as last time, but it was still sweet, he thought.
Harper closed the bottle lid and sincerely apologized, "Keith, I'm really sorry. I apologize on behalf of Francis."
Keith's eyes flickered and he kindly said, "It's okay, Harper. You don't have to apologize to me."
He asked again, "Are you both okay?"
Harper answered, "We're fine. I haven't introduced you before, but Francis is my husband. He promised me that he won't bother you again."
Keith smiled and said, "It's okay. Last time was just a misunderstanding. Mr. Francis's assistant handled it well."
Soon, the two of them said goodbye and Harper walked back to the hospital room.
In the hospital room, Francis looked at the anonymous photos on his phone and his expression turned cold for a moment.
He looked at Wesley and asked, "Who was Harper here to see yesterday?"
Wesley hesitated. He didn't want to say, but he could tell from Francis's expression.
"When I saw her, she was indeed talking to Keith, but it doesn't necessarily mean she came to see him. Don't think too much about it."
Wesley spoke the truth. Harper didn't say who she came to see.
But Francis clearly remembered that Harper said in the car that she didn't come to see him.
When Harper returned to the hospital room, there was only Francis inside.
He seemed a little unhappy, but he didn't say anything, he just let her come over.
And then he clung to her, kissing her for a long time. Harper stopped his action.
After all, he was a patient.
But he still clung to her, his thin lips gently whispered something in her ear. Harper bit her lip, her whole face was flushed.
She felt embarrassed and asked, "Do all men like that?"
Francis's dark eyes carried a hint of laughter, looking extraordinarily charming.
"Others have tried, but I haven't." He said.
Harper patted his chest in disdain and said, "Well, you won't get to try it either."
Francis covered his chest, his handsome eyebrows furrowed. Harper panicked and quickly asked, "Does it hurt?"
"It hurts my heart."
Harper felt a little less happy.
Harper really wanted to hit him.
Her snowy white and soft waist was partially exposed, and Francis couldn't help but pinch it.
"Have you gained some weight?"
Harper panicked and pulled her clothes down a bit.
"No."
She was only a little over two months pregnant, not yet showing, but Harper had been hungrier recently and had taken extra supplements for herself and the baby.
Compared to before, she had gained a little weight.
Harper didn't plan to hide this from the father forever, but given their current relationship, she wanted to wait for three months to be more stable before telling Francis.
Regardless of whether he wanted this child or not, she definitely did.
"It's good, I can feel it when I touch it."
Saying that, he reached out to scratch Harper's waist dimple, causing her to beg for mercy before he stopped.
In the following days, Harper accompanied Francis at the hospital every day. His health was good, and he was back to normal work within a week of being discharged.
However, he was extremely busy with work, and she hadn't seen him for three consecutive days.
Harper had a faint uneasiness in her heart, but she tried to convince herself not to be suspicious.
In the past few days, Harper had been visiting Delaney every day.
But Delaney was sick and kept falling asleep, so several times she ended up coming when Delaney was resting.
So today, she planned to wait until the afternoon when Delaney was feeling better so that she could have a conversation with her.
It was still early, so Harper went to the company first.
Francis was already working at such a high intensity without fully recovering, and she was worried. Under the guidance of the chef, she personally made a nourishing soup and went to deliver it to him.
On the way, she sent Francis a WhatsApp message asking if he was busy.
But he never replied.
When she arrived at the company, Harper had a CEO exclusive elevator card and went straight upstairs.
She first ran into Victor, who appeared visibly flustered upon seeing her.
Harper's heart skipped a beat, but she naturally asked, "Is Francis busy?"
“The CEO is in his office," Victor hesitated to say more, but Harper had already walked past him.
The blinds in the office were open, and Francis was sitting in his seat, dressed in a black shirt that accentuated his handsome appearance. His profile, focused on the screen, looked particularly sexy.
Beside him was Chloe, dressed in a small Chanel skirt with an office lady style, delicate yet showing a hint of competence. Her attire was even more eye-catching than before.
They say that men who work seriously are the sexiest, and Francis's sexiness was particularly evident in his work.
Harper had no trouble understanding Chloe's infatuated expression, but she felt very uncomfortable, extremely uncomfortable.
Victor stood nearby, his temples sweaty, and explained, "Chloe just took over her father's business at Northfield Company and came to Mr. Getty for some clarification."
But as he spoke, Chloe's face leaned toward Francis's jaw, a rather suggestive gesture even though she was looking at the documents.
Victor broke into a cold sweat and couldn't help but glance at Harper. There was no expression on her face, and it was hard to tell if she was angry or not.
From this position, Chloe could easily see the person standing outside the window. A teasing smile appeared at the corner of her mouth.
According to his previous understanding, Harper would probably feel inferior and leave in this situation.
As someone who could stay by Francis's side with her identity, she was already lucky and wouldn't dare to make a fuss over trivial matters.
And Francis would never tolerate a woman making trouble with her. So, Harper could only keep her grievances to herself, and over time, she would become suspicious and fall apart.
Chloe thought well, but little did she know that Harper knocked on the door and pushed it open without hesitation.
Francis was highlighting some documents and when he heard someone come in, he didn't even lift his head as he coldly said, "Get out."
