Chapter 246 Happy Remarriage!
Harper was even more confused. If Francis just wanted a contract, why her?
There were plenty of women in Northfield who'd jump at the chance to marry him, even for a day.
Francis explained calmly, "My grandfather's health is failing. The doctor says he has less than two months."
Harper's mind reeled. The only real affection she felt from the Getty family came from Dylan. How could this happen so suddenly?
She felt sad and choked up. "I can keep pretending with you..."
"I don't want to," Francis cut her off coldly.
Harper looked at him, surprised. Francis continued indifferently, "I don't want to deceive him now."
It made sense, but something still felt off to Harper. She felt uneasy, like she was selling herself out.
She bit her lip. "But..."
Francis frowned and interrupted impatiently, "Don't flatter yourself. I'm remarrying you purely for my grandfather."
He paused and added nonchalantly, "I'm not forcing you. You can choose between remarrying or having sex right here."
Harper blushed. What kind of choice was that? She didn't want either.
But thinking about Dylan, she felt she could endure it for three months.
Harper bit her lip and said, "You won't announce it publicly. I don't want Abigail to know. And after three months, you'll divorce me, right?"
Francis's expression was cold as he responded with a low "hmm."
Harper felt slightly relieved. "Alright, let's sign the prenuptial and divorce agreements now. That way, we won't need to sign again in three months."
She took it seriously, which seemed to prick Francis's heart a bit.
Harper sensed he was unhappy, his eyes dark and terrifying.
But she insisted, printed the divorce agreement, signed it, and handed it to Francis.
Francis pressed hard on the paper, almost tearing it.
After a moment, he took the pen and signed his name with a flourish.
The whole process, he was expressionless and distant.
For some reason, seeing him sign so easily made Harper's heart ache.
Marriage for a woman was like a rebirth, which was why she was hard to decide.
But Francis could divorce and remarry her without a second thought, then divorce again. It was because he didn't love her, which was why he could hurt her so easily.
They weren't in love anymore. But a piece of paper tied them together, making her feel heavy.
Francis was also in a bad mood. He lowered his eyes and said, "Let's go in."
Harper was frustrated. "I didn't bring my documents."
She had lost them and hadn't prepared new ones because she hadn't needed them until now.
"I brought mine and yours."
"What? How do you have my documents?"
Francis explained calmly, "You forgot them last time."
"And it never occurred to you to return them?"
"No," Francis replied matter-of-factly.
They went in and, since it wasn't their first time, quickly completed the marriage procedures.
Harper's mind was in turmoil. She felt this was an impulsive and wrong decision.
Later events proved it was indeed a huge mistake.
So much so that whenever Harper thought about it, she wished she could go back to this day and stop her foolish self.
Afterward, Francis went with her to see Dylan. Dylan was thrilled to see them together, which made her feel a bit better.
After seeing Dylan, Harper headed to her evening class.
Francis gave her a ride, but when they arrived, he locked the car door.
"What are you doing?" Harper asked.
Francis said sternly, "You're my wife. I don't care what your relationship with Keith is, but during our marriage, you can't see him. Got it?"
"Fine," Harper agreed without hesitation.
She wasn't planning to see Keith anyway.
Seeing her agree so quickly, Francis felt his heart soften.
But he couldn't help but mock, "That's quick. Aren't you worried he'll be hurt?"
Harper was puzzled and thought it necessary to clear up the misunderstanding.
"We were never a thing."
She didn't want to say more. Keith had saved her, and whether he was a good man or not, she decided to let it go.
Harper was about to get out of the car, but Francis suddenly grabbed her hand and asked, "What do you mean by that?"
"Exactly what I said."
He held her hand so tightly that Harper uncomfortably shook it off.
But Francis didn't let go, his thin lips moving slightly as he asked, "Have you two ever..."
He stopped, afraid the answer would break him.
He had a cleanliness obsession, but if it was Harper, he seemed he could overcome it.
Just like now, he used a ridiculous excuse to trick her into marrying him and keeping her close.
He couldn't stand another man having her.
Seeing him still holding her, Harper anxiously said, "Let me out; I'm going to be late."
"What's the rush?" Francis stared at her for a second and then slowly leaned in.
The car's interior was small, and his face was very close. Harper could clearly see his dark eyes under his long lashes.
Those eyes, clear yet seductive, reflected the streetlight like starlight falling into the sea.
Harper's heart suddenly raced as if it would jump out of her chest the next second.
It felt like a slow-motion scene in a movie, with Francis inching closer, their lips almost touching.
Harper was stunned. She should have dodged, but they were too close, making her feel short of breath.
Her mind turned to mush, unable to think of anything else.
Just as Francis's lips were about to touch hers, he suddenly shifted, whispering in her ear, "Happy remarriage!"
Then she heard a low, magnetic laugh from Francis's throat.
Harper's face turned bright red! What did he mean by happy remarriage?
This annoyed her; he did it on purpose.
He never missed a chance to tease her.
She angrily opened the car door and ran off without a word.
In the hospital room, Robert's dark eyes were fixed on the pale-faced Molly on the bed, not blinking.
If Molly could see, she would surely mock him, saying even his looks of deep affection were faked.
Only at this moment, when Molly was asleep, did Robert not hide his emotions.
His phone vibrated.
Robert, afraid of waking Molly, got up and went to the hallway to answer the call.
On the phone, Zack told him that the two women at the police station had committed minor offenses and had been released on bail by their families.
However, he found out that the two women were under Henry's command.
Zack wanted to investigate further but was stopped by Henry.
After all, Henry was Quinn's brother, so Zack called to ask if he should continue investigating.
Robert's eyes turned cold instantly. "Go on!"
In less than half an hour after the call ended, Quinn came over, crying to Robert, "Robert, how could you embarrass Henry for Molly!"
"Quinn!"
Robert called her sternly, his eyes as cold as ice, with no trace of a smile on his face.
