Chapter 188 He Got Hurt Because of Me
Harper held his back, her face pale with fear, her voice choked with tears.
She cried out, "Francis, stay with me. Don't scare me!"
Blood kept flowing from his chest, and the excessive blood loss made his handsome face unusually pale.
Harper was in extreme panic, calling him over and over again. "Francis, don't sleep. Talk to me, please. Talk to me, okay?"
"Don't cry, you silly; it doesn't hurt at all." Francis's hand was too tired to lift, but his consciousness was still clear.
Seeing her tears falling because she was worried and heartbroken for him, he managed to form a smile.
His wound seemed to be numbed, and it really didn't hurt that much anymore.
She still cared about him, didn't she?
She probably didn't know.
The way she had been ignoring him and distancing herself from him hurt more than a stab wound.
But he had been used to hiding his emotions since he was a child, so he couldn't express them like normal people and could only cover them with indifference.
"Harper, I am very sad, too, that we lost the child." Francis's pale lips moved with difficulty, each word seeming to take all his strength. "I'm sorry. Can you forgive me?"
After the divorce, the topic of the child became taboo.
They both tacitly avoided it.
But now, he wanted to tell her his thoughts.
That was his first child, and his sadness might not be as obvious as others.
But that didn't mean he wasn't sad.
Harper's face was full of tears, and she repeatedly said, "I forgive you. Just be okay."
When she lost her child, she really hated him.
She hated him so much she wanted him dead.
But when he risked his life to save her again and again, that hatred instantly disappeared with his actions.
Now, she just wanted him to be okay.
Francis's lips moved with difficulty as he said under his breath, "I'll keep that in mind; you can't go back on your word."
Harper kept nodding, choking, "Okay, I won't go back on my word. Don't talk."
Harper couldn't stop crying.
She was afraid he wouldn't talk but also scared he would talk too much and exhaust himself.
It wasn't until she saw Noah appear in front of her that Francis's consciousness began to blur.
Francis thought with relief, 'Good, she is safe.'
After Noah arrived, he tied up the two bad guys and contacted the emergency response team at Mount Everest.
Due to the violent injury incident, Mount Everest dispatched an emergency rescue helicopter to take them to the city hospital.
Harper went to the hospital with them.
During the surgery, she waited outside and called Abigail to come over.
Soon, Abigail arrived at the hospital.
Seeing Harper covered in blood and the tightly closed door of the operating room, Abigail felt her heart tighten, and she asked in a trembling voice, "Harper, what happened to Francis?"
Before Harper could speak, tears were already streaming down her face.
"He was stabbed."
Abigail's face instantly turned pale, and she choked, "Where? He will be fine, right?"
Harper shook her head and responded, "I don't know; he was hurt in his left chest."
Hearing this, Abigail's body swayed unsteadily, her face turning as white as a sheet.
The left chest contained the heart and lungs, both vital organs.
Harper quickly supported Abigail, her tears flowing even more. "I'm sorry, Mom. Francis got hurt because of me."
Abigail felt a sharp pain in her chest and snapped, "What exactly happened?"
Harper sobbed and recounted the events, her voice hoarse from crying.
It took Abigail a while to say, "Good kid, it's not your fault. You are his wife. Francis did the right thing to protect you."
Harper felt a mix of emotions in her heart. They had hidden their divorce from Dylan and Abigail.
But now, she didn't want to lie to Abigail anymore. "Mom, I'm sorry. We divorced a long time ago."
Abigail was slightly stunned. Her lips parted in surprise, and she was seemingly unable to believe it. "You are divorced?"
Harper nodded with red eyes.
"Harper, you are so foolish! Francis is just stubborn; he definitely has feelings for you!" Abigail said in pain.
She really liked Harper, but now her only son was lying inside, gravely injured!
As a mother, how could she not be heartbroken?
Harper bit her lip and was unable to say a word in defense.
Abigail was now filled with resentment, and even if she hit or scolded her, Harper wouldn't fight back.
Abigail looked at the closed door of the operating room and then at Harper, the pain in her chest returning, and she fainted.
"Mom! Mom!" Harper held Abigail and called out twice, but she didn't respond.
She panicked and shouted, "Doctor!"
Immediately, the doctor took Abigail to another emergency room.
Fortunately, Abigail was just too distressed, and after treatment, her heart rate stabilized, and she just needed rest.
Harper finally breathed a sigh of relief and returned to the operating room to wait for Francis.
When Noah arrived at the hospital, Francis's surgery was not yet over.
Lily also wanted to wait there, but her father forcibly took her back.
At this moment, Noah was listless.
He had also informed Rhodes, and although Rhodes was still terse on the phone, Noah knew he would be in trouble when Rhodes returned.
But now was not the time for him to worry about that.
He glanced at Harper, who was disheveled, pale, and had blood on her feet. She looked very worried.
He slowly approached and said, in a tone that was a bit guilty, "Ms. Sackler, why don't you have some rest? I'll stay here with my brother."
Harper didn't look at him, her eyes fixed on the operating room door. "I didn't complete your challenge; when Mr. Getty returns, I will hand in my resignation."
She really regretted it now. If she hadn't gone up the mountain, none of this would have happened.
Francis wouldn't have gotten hurt.
It was quiet.
Noah was uncharacteristically timid, and didn't say anything more.
Finally, the operating room door opened.
The doctor informed them that although Francis had been saved, the knife wound was very close to his heart, and due to excessive blood loss, he needed to be observed in the ICU.
Harper stayed by the ICU door all night without closing her eyes.
By noon, Rhodes also arrived at the hospital.
Harper was still by the ICU, and Noah hadn't left either, though he had dozed off a bit during the night when he couldn't stay awake.
Rhodes had taken a night flight, wearing a thin suit without a coat, clearly having rushed over right after getting off the plane.
He didn't speak to Noah but went straight to Harper, reaching out to feel her forehead.
Harper, sensing the unfamiliar touch, instinctively pulled away, but Rhodes grabbed her arm.
His eyes were sharp, staring at her unusually flushed face. "You have a fever; let the doctor take a look."
Harper struggled but couldn't break free.
She weakly said, "I'm fine."
Seeing she wouldn't listen, Rhodes directly called a nurse to take Harper away.
He said, "Francis will want to see you when he wakes up. If you're sick, you'll be a liability to him."
Hearing this, Harper was less resistant.
Rhodes reassured her. "Go see the doctor; I'll stay here."
After Harper left, Rhodes walked over to Noah and slapped him in the face.
