Chapter 342 Nothing Hurt More Than His Heart Did

Jasper didn't waste a second. He scooped Harper into the car while Isla took the wheel.

Neither of them spared a glance at the badly injured Francis.

Francis could only watch as Harper walked away eagerly.

His heart felt like it was being crushed, the pain twisting his face.

Even though Jasper had just beaten him up, he hadn't felt the pain then. Now, he was too weak to stand.

His whole body felt like it was made of foam, and he collapsed to the ground.

Victor rushed over to help Francis. Seeing the deep sorrow in Francis's eyes, Victor felt a burning sensation in his palm.

Victor's lips moved, and he said sadly, "Mr. Getty, Mrs. Getty, she can't be..."

Victor wanted to comfort him but didn't know how. It was clear Harper didn't care about Francis. Anyone could see that Francis didn't fight back against Jasper because of Harper's words. Even after getting punched, he still protected her. Why didn't Harper appreciate it?

Victor tried to help Francis up, but Francis pushed him away.

Francis's handsome face was clouded with gloom. He used the car door to support himself and slowly got up, sitting back in the car without a word. Seeing this, his assitant entered the driver's seat, starting the car and heading for the hospital.

Blood flowed from his wounds, but he didn't care. Did it hurt? He couldn't feel it. Nothing hurt more than his heart. He had just felt the pain of having his heart ripped out.

After holding it in for a long time, Francis finally spat out fresh blood, with more trickling down the corner of his mouth. He collapsed heavily against the seat, eyes closed.

"Mr. Getty!" Victor, panicking, stopped the car to check on Francis. His pulse was weak, and his breathing was barely there. Victor's hands trembled as he quickly got back in the driver's seat and sped to the hospital.

Harper leaned against the back seat, her face pale.

Jasper gave her some water and asked with concern, "Are you okay? Hold on, we'll be at the hospital soon."

The image of Francis drenched in blood was still in her mind, and Harper felt a sharp pain in her heart.

She said weakly, "Jasper, I think I remembered."

Jasper's eyes narrowed, and he asked nervously, "You remembered? Do you remember what happened after you fell into the river?"

Back then, Harper was sent to a hospital run by the Murphy family. Someone had anonymously texted Jasper about Harper's identity.

Jasper, skeptical, had a test done on Harper, and it turned out she was indeed his long-lost sister.

But who had sent Harper there, and how did this person know her identity? It was all a mystery.

Most importantly, Jasper suspected this person might be connected to Elodie's disappearance or knew some inside information. He was desperate to find them.

Harper rubbed her head, trying to remember. After falling into the river, she recalled someone breaking the glass and pulling her out.

That person's eyes were dark and familiar, but she couldn't see their face.

Her head hurt like it was splitting, and her breathing became rapid, like a fish out of water, her heart racing.

"Harper! Harper!" Jasper called out in panic.

Seeing her struggle to breathe, he quickly grabbed an oxygen tank from the car's first aid kit and connected it to her.

Slowly, Harper calmed down, her face pale.

She choked out, "Jasper, I'm sorry, I can't see that person's face."

After calming down, her fragmented memories wouldn't come together. Her mind felt like a short-circuited machine.

Jasper's heart tightened. He patted her back gently and said, "If you can't remember, don't stress about it. We won't think about it anymore."

He couldn't stand seeing her in pain. To him, Harper was more important than any hidden truth.

At the hospital, Harper had a thorough check-up, and the results were the same as before—nothing wrong.

The doctor explained that her head injury could cause nerve pain and disordered memories. The advice was to let it be if she couldn't remember the past.

Harper's body was fine, and after resting a bit, she felt more energetic.

She then thought of Francis. She had disappeared because of her headache and didn't know how he was doing.

Thinking of Francis getting punched by Jasper, Harper felt guilty. If she hadn't told Francis not to fight back, he wouldn't have been so badly hurt.

Francis didn't seem like the obedient type, yet he followed her words exactly, deepening her guilt.

Finally, overwhelmed by guilt, she took out her phone and dialed. The phone rang many times, but no one answered.

Worried, she called Victor.

Victor answered quickly, sounding surprised. "Ms. Murphy?"

Harper didn't waste time and asked, "Is Francis okay? I called him, but no one answered."

"Mr. Getty is still at the hospital," Victor replied.

Harper's heart tightened. "Is it serious?"

Victor paused and said, "I'm not sure. The doctor is still with him."

Harper's hands and feet turned cold with anxiety. She didn't know if the last impact was serious.

She said, "Please keep me updated, okay?"

Victor promised, "Okay."

Before hanging up, Victor added, "Ms. Murphy, if you can, you should come see Mr. Getty. He'll feel better if you're here."

After hanging up, Harper couldn't relax. Her mind was in turmoil. Unable to calm down, she got up, dressed, and prepared to go to the hospital where Francis was.

Just as she opened the door, Jasper walked in. Seeing her not resting, he frowned and asked, "Where are you going?"
