Chapter 586 Give Me One Reason Not to Beat You to Death!
Late at night, someone knocked on the gate of the Perry Estate. After checking with Jasper, the servant opened the door.
It was pouring outside.
Francis, soaked to the bone in his black and gray wool coat, leaned on a black cane as he walked in.
Jasper, who could barely walk now, frowned at the sight of Francis. "It's so late, what's up?"
"Is Harper asleep?" Francis asked.
Jasper looked confused. "It's late, of course, she's asleep."
"Is she alone?" Francis pressed.
Jasper was taken aback for a moment. "Of course not."
Rhodes didn't know about the fake marriage, and the fewer people who knew, the better.
Francis's eyes darkened. "Can you go check on her?"
Jasper didn't get it. "It's late, she's sleeping. Why do I need to check?"
Francis said, "I saw her phone signal move a bit, then it stopped."
"What?" Jasper was stunned. "You put something on her phone?"
"I was just worried about her safety before she gives birth. Just tracking her location, nothing else," Francis explained.
"That's still not okay!" Jasper was furious that Francis had secretly put a tracker on Harper. He didn't even know when it was installed.
And Francis knew her movements so late at night. Did he not sleep and monitor Harper all the time?
"You should uninstall it immediately!" Jasper warned.
Francis clearly didn't intend to remove it. "I'll do it once she's no longer in Emerald Isle. For now, go check on Harper."
Jasper was very angry. "I'll be right back, and you better do it right now!"
Jasper turned to go to Harper's room and warned, "You stay here, don't disturb the couple's rest."
Francis didn't say anything and stood still.
Jasper walked down the hallway, calling out for Harper, his voice carrying outside.
After calling a few times, Jasper's tone became urgent. "Harper, are you there?"
Francis's expression changed, and he immediately tried to rush in, but the servant, remembering Jasper's instructions, blocked him. "Sorry, please wait a moment."
"Move," Francis's eyes turned cold, which was quite intimidating.
In the servant's moment of hesitation, Francis had already pushed past and walked inside.
The servant hurriedly chased after him. "Sir, you can't..."
Francis's leg hadn't fully recovered, and it was worse on rainy days. In his haste, he was limping a bit.
The servant thought Francis was a cripple and couldn't have much strength, so he reached out to pull him back. Before he could touch him, Francis swung his cane, and the servant fell to the ground.
Francis wasn't focused on making things difficult for the servant; he just wanted to get to Harper's room quickly. At this moment, he hated his own leg for not being able to move faster.
As he approached, he saw Jasper raising his foot to kick the door.
"Stop!" Francis shouted.
Jasper paused, and Francis had already reached him.
Francis looked displeased. "What if Harper is behind the door?"
Jasper, hearing this, lowered his foot.
Francis asked, "Is she alone in there?"
Jasper didn't hide it and nodded, "It's just Harper."
Francis gave him a look that made Jasper a bit scared. Francis didn't continue questioning and instead saw Isla rushing over in a panic. He sternly ordered, "Get the key!"
After getting the key, they opened the door, but it wouldn't budge with a light push.
Jasper saw a hand through the crack and became very alarmed, shouting, "Harper!"
Francis's expression was also very grim, but he remained calm. The more critical the situation, the less he could panic. He gently pushed the door open enough for his slender body to slip through.
Inside, there was a large wet spot on the floor. It was clear that Harper's water had broken.
Francis picked up the unconscious Harper and hurried out.
Jasper followed behind, noticing that Francis seemed to have some difficulty with his leg. He stepped forward and said, "Let me carry her."
Francis gave Jasper a cold look.
Jasper didn't insist. Francis had a bad leg, and Jasper had a bad hand. If he couldn't hold her steady, it would be a big problem.
And judging by Francis's demeanor, even if he fell, he would still hold Harper securely.
After getting into the car, Francis didn't even call out to Jasper before closing the door and leaving.
Jasper was frantic and quickly had the driver prepare a car to follow them to the hospital.
In the car.
Harper leaned against Francis, her brows furrowed, even in her unconscious state, extremely uneasy. She felt like she was trapped in a dream. Her stomach hurt, a lot.
Harper was very scared, tears streaming down her face, her voice hoarse, "Save...save my babies."
The feeling of weightlessness subsided slightly only when her arms were held tightly, but she still frowned.
Francis's coat was soaked, and he carefully took it off. Now he was only wearing a shirt and a black sweater underneath, half-cradling Harper in his arms.
Francis called out softly, "Harper, Harper."
On the way, he kept talking to her.
"Harper, don't sleep."
"Hold on, we're almost at the hospital."
"I won't let anything happen to you."
Harper, in pain and confusion, seemed to see her late caretaker Delaney and her foster father Sean.
They were all calling her gently and kindly, "Harper, Harper."
Harper's nose tingled, she really missed them.
At that moment, she wanted to run to them desperately. But then, another voice called out to her. "Harper, hold on."
She was very tired and didn't want to listen, but the voice became clearer, constantly talking to her. The nagging seemed very effective, and her spirit returned a bit.
At the hospital.
The glaring fluorescent lights came on. Doctors and nurses were bustling in and out, busy.
Soon, a doctor came out, "Where are the patient's family members? We need a signature on the surgery consent form."
Jasper stepped forward, "I'm the family member, I'll sign."
It was a C-section.
Hearing it was a Cesarean section, Jasper hesitated, "Is it dangerous?"
"The water's been broken for a while, and there's hardly any amniotic fluid left. If you had arrived any later, the baby would have been at risk of suffocation," the doctor said sternly. "How come the mother is almost full-term and there's no one with her?"
Jasper was stunned and didn't say anything.
The doctor didn't say more, taking the signed consent form and going back inside.
Outside, only Francis and Jasper remained.
Francis looked at Jasper with an icy gaze. "Where is Vincent? Is this how he acts as a husband?"
Jasper's eyelids twitched; he couldn't say that Vincent and Harper were in a fake marriage and didn't live together.
Just as he was thinking of an excuse, Vincent arrived, drenched and looking anxious. "Where's Harper?"
Before Jasper could speak, a fist slammed into Vincent's face, sending him stumbling backward.
Francis's eyes burned with fury. "Tell me, what could be so important that you would leave your pregnant wife alone at home?"
Francis was filled with a murderous aura, pressing on. "You better have a good reason, one that will stop me from killing you!"
Vincent, with a hoarse voice, couldn't say anything.
All he felt was guilt. It was his fault for not having experience and letting Harper eat something that might have caused her to go into labor early.
Seeing Vincent unable to say a word, Francis couldn't hold back any longer and started punching Vincent's face and body repeatedly!
Jasper couldn't just stand by and watch Francis beat Vincent, but he also couldn't reveal that they were in a fake marriage and that Vincent had never stayed with Harper at night.
Jasper tightly grabbed Francis's arm and shouted, "Francis, calm down!"
Francis shook off Jasper's hand and gave him a fierce look. "Are you going to protect this man who doesn't care about your sister?"
"It's not like that," Jasper said, struggling to find the words.
He didn't know how to explain that Vincent wasn't supposed to be with Harper.
Francis coldly said, "Then stay out of it, or I'll take you down too!"
Seeing Francis raise his fist again, Jasper couldn't stay silent any longer. "Stop, this isn't Vincent's fault. He never stayed with her at night!"
Francis's fist stopped just short of Vincent.
Jasper grabbed Francis's hand and quickly explained the truth to him.
Francis stood still for a long time, processing the shocking news.
Jasper didn't know what Francis was thinking and said, "Harper didn't tell you for a reason. I hope you can pretend not to know until she's ready to tell you herself."
Vincent slowly got up from the ground, his face bruised.
"This is partly my fault too," Vincent said, accepting the punches. "Now that you know, let's compete fairly. I like Harper and won't give up easily."
Vincent didn't want to compromise. On his way here, Vincent felt like his soul was leaving his body. He realized that Harper had become a part of him, and her every move affected him deeply.
Francis's eyes were cold as he said, "You're not qualified!"
At that moment, the doctor came out again. With a joyful expression, he said, "She gave birth to two healthy boys. A family member needs to come and take them."
Francis asked, "What about the mother?"
The doctor replied, "She's fine. She was brought in just in time. She's stable but needs to be monitored for two hours."
Everyone breathed a sigh of relief.
The three men stood at the door of the delivery room, not moving, none of them willing to go get the babies.
The doctor reminded, "Which family member will take the babies?"
Francis didn't move. He was determined to stay by the door until Harper came out.
The doctor wondered why no one wanted to take such adorable twins.
Jasper sighed, seeing Francis standing firm, "I'll do it."
He felt reassured knowing Francis was watching over Harper.
Jasper pushed the baby carriage out, but Francis didn't even glance at it, as he had been anxiously waiting for Harper to come out of the delivery room.
Jasper looked at the babies seriously; they really did resemble Francis.
After arranging for Isla and Ronald to watch over the babies closely, Jasper called Vincent, "Vincent, let's go take care of your face."
Vincent already regretted his previous actions and didn't want to leave now.
Jasper persuaded, "Don't worry, Francis is here. You don't want Harper to see you like this, do you?"
Vincent looked at the steadfast Francis and nodded, following Jasper to treat his injuries.
They had just left when several doctors rushed into the delivery room, causing Francis to tense up. He grabbed a doctor and asked, "What's happening? Is something wrong with the mother?"
The doctor said, "The mother's condition suddenly worsened."
Francis's hand dropped!
The doctor rushed back inside.
Jasper and Vincent, having heard the news, hurried back, looking shocked. "How could this happen!"
No one answered.
Soon, the doctor came out again. "The mother is bleeding heavily and urgently needs a blood transfusion!"
"Then give her a transfusion! Don't you understand that?" Francis's expression was icy cold.
The doctor shrank back, "The hospital's supply of type B blood has been contaminated. We contacted nearby hospitals, but their supplies were also contaminated. Several hospitals are facing the same issue!"
The men were confused.
Jasper demanded, "What do you mean the blood supply was contaminated?"
"We just found out an hour ago that an unknown substance was injected into the blood bags!"
Jasper immediately thought of the person who wanted to kill Harper! The mysterious person had been monitoring them and, knowing Harper was giving birth, had contaminated all the blood bags in the city.
Jasper punched the wall in frustration, regretting not anticipating this.
Vincent was the first to command, "Get everyone in the hospital with type B blood to donate, and do it quickly!"
The doctor thought it was a good idea; they couldn't let the mother keep bleeding.
She was about to go to the PA system when Francis stopped her, "How long will it take to test the blood for diseases?"
