Chapter 286 How Did Harper Fall into the River?

Francis watched Harper cling to Jasper's arm, her eyes wary and distant. His heart ached, and his voice turned cold. "Harper, come here."

Harper was done with this lunatic.

"I've told you, I'm not your wife," she said, eyeing Francis, who was covered in blood. "I'll let it go this time, but next time, I'm calling the cops."

"I say you are, so you are," Francis insisted, his face cold. "I can't be wrong about this."

The woman from his dreams—how could he mistake her? She was Harper, his Harper.

Harper thought he was nuts, which made things tricky.

If he was truly crazy, the law might not be able to touch him.

She frowned. "Mr. Getty, you need a doctor, just leave us alone, okay?"

Her serious eyes made it clear she thought Francis was a psycho.

After being kissed by a stranger, she felt dirty and just wanted to clean up.

She tugged Jasper's arm. "Jasper, let's go."

Jasper glared at Francis. "Mr. Getty, if you touch my sister again, the Murphy family won't let it slide."

The Murphy family had connections, even if they weren't based in Northfield.

Both families were powerful, and Jasper figured Francis would think twice.

He grabbed Harper's hand to leave, but she said, "Wait a minute."

Francis and Jasper watched as Harper rummaged through the trash can for a ring.

Luckily, the trash can was clean except for the ring.

Harper picked up the platinum diamond ring, held it carefully, and planned to clean it before wearing it again.

Francis noticed Harper seemed different.

She seemed to have forgotten the past, and her actions weren't an act.

Seeing her handle the ring so carefully, his heart felt like it was being torn apart.

He grabbed Harper, who was about to leave, and said coldly, "You're not going anywhere."

Before Harper could respond, Jasper stepped in front of her. "Mr. Getty, you have no right to detain my sister."

"No right?" Francis pulled out a paper from his pocket and tossed it at Harper.

The paper grazed her jaw and fell to the ground, stinging slightly.

Jasper picked it up—it was a marriage certificate.

'Who carries that around?' he sneered in his head.

Francis smirked at Harper. "Is this enough of a right?"

This was a shock.

Jasper and Harper were stunned.

Jasper's investigation showed they were divorced; he had no idea they remarried.

Harper was even more surprised. If Francis was her husband, then who was Allen?

How did she marry Allen while already having a husband?

Everything felt like a mess, and the marriage certificate hit Harper like a bomb, making her head spin.

Without warning, she collapsed.

Jasper's eyes widened. "Harper!"

Francis felt like he couldn't breathe. He scooped Harper up, kicked open the door, and drove off.

Jasper followed in his car.

They stopped at the hospital.

Francis was about to carry her inside when Jasper stopped him.

"She can't be treated here," Jasper said seriously. "Give Harper to me. You'll only make things worse."

Francis saw the panic in Jasper's eyes.

After a few seconds of hesitation, Francis looked at Harper's pale face and handed her over to Jasper.

They drove off again.

Jasper took her to a villa where a doctor was already waiting.

Watching through the glass as the brainwave treatment proceeded, Jasper finally sighed in relief.

The treatment room had one bed and various instruments.

Harper lay on the bed, her face colorless, with thin tubes attached to her head.

Francis's heart twisted. His face darkened. "What's going on?"

"When we found Harper, her brain nerves were damaged. It took several painful treatments to get her here. I want to ask you, Mr. Getty," Jasper's eyes were cold, "Why did Harper fall into the river back then?"

Jasper had always found Harper's fall suspicious and suspected foul play.

He used Harper's return to investigate who was behind her fall.

Francis's thoughts went back to that day.

Could the incident in the studio be the reason Harper tried to escape?

But many signs showed Harper had planned to escape before that.

Ultimately, he was responsible for her fall into the river.

Francis closed his eyes, his aura weakened. "She wanted to leave, which led to the car accident. It's all my fault."

Jasper didn't expect much from Francis.

From what he knew, Francis had lived in pain these past five years.

If Francis knew anything, he wouldn't have let Harper get hurt.

Jasper looked him in the eye. "I don't know why you remarried, but it must be against Harper's will. Otherwise, she wouldn't have escaped. And..."

Jasper's tone turned icy. "The reason for your first divorce was that you chose to save your first love, which led to Harper's miscarriage. I doubt she'd remarry you."

Francis explained, "That was a misunderstanding."

"Misunderstanding?"

Jasper sneered. "She did lose her first child, didn't she? You chose another woman over her. That's not wrong, right?"

Francis felt like his throat was being squeezed, unable to speak.

Jasper saw the pain on Francis's face and sneered. "Since that's all true, I hope Mr. Getty can finalize the divorce as soon as possible."
