Chapter 158 Keith Asked Harper to Fake His Girlfriend
Harper was still in shock when Francis hung up the phone.
He looked at her coldly and said, "I happen to be going to the same place he invited you to."
Then, without any warning, he held her up.
Caught off guard, Harper bumped into his chest and then bounced back, which made her to wrap her arms around his neck quickly in fright.
People occasionally passed by, which made her feel uneasy. She let go and grabbed the buttons on his suit, and whispered, "Put me down."
"I'm in a hurry, and you walk too slow."
Harper said helplessly, "If you're in a hurry, go ahead. I don't need your ride."
But Francis ignored her and soon reached the parking lot, where he placed her in the passenger seat directly.
Harper really didn't want to stay with him. She reached for the seat belt and tried to unlock the door, but it was locked.
She turned to Francis and said, "Please unlock the door."
Francis glanced at her. "Aren't you going on a date?"
Just as Harper was about to speak, she saw Francis' cold gaze turn icy as he said, "I'll get you there faster than you walk."
Seeing his stern and dangerous look, Harper felt like he was saying this would bring her to hell faster.
Harper didn't dare to speak anymore.
Francis placed one hand on the steering wheel but didn't start the car.
He asked, "If I hadn't come today, were you planning to tell Dylan about our divorce?"
Harper didn't answer. Although she hadn't said it in the end, she had thought about it.
Francis sneered as he said, "Harper, you are good. I never imagined you are so good that you can ignore how Dylan would take it when he heard you are with another man."
Harper thought Dylan seemed to be in good spirits and didn't think it was as serious as Francis made it out to be.
She said, "Francis, are you planning to hide this from him forever? I've already tried, and he didn't seem like he couldn't handle it."
With every word Harper said, Francis' gaze darkened a bit more.
Finally, .
hHe slammed a medical report from the center console in front of her.
With a tone full of anger, he said, "Look at what it says."
Francis was so frustrated that he threw it with great force, and two sheets of paper almost grazed Harper's face.
The sharp edge of the paper left a red mark on Harper's face and brought her some pain.
She didn't say anything. She just picked up the report and read it.
It said Premature heart valve beats and multiple organ failure tendencies.
There were many medical terms she didn't understand, but she knew they were bad.
Soon, her eyes turned red, and a tear fell uncontrollably onto the paper.
Seeing that tear, Francis paused, and most of his anger dissipated.
He wondered if he had been too harsh.
Seeing the red mark on her face from the paper, he felt a pang of guilt, couldn't help but reach out,. He couldn't help but reach out and wanted to ask if it hurt.
But when Harper saw his hand, her expression changed, and she quickly blocked it midway and said, "I'm sorry., I won't try to tell him again."
Francis' hand froze in mid-air.
What did her expression mean?
Did she think he would hit her?
All this time, no matter how angry he got, he had never laid a hand on her. How did she get the impression that he would?
Suddenly, his heart felt like it was filled with sand, suffocating and heavy.
The next second, Harper said, "I promise not to tell him, but I also don't want to pretend to be affectionate with you in front of him. So next time we visit Grandpa, let's set a time to avoid running into each other. Is that okay?"
The car fell into a suffocating silence.
Francis' thin lips were tightly pressed together, and his grip on the steering wheel was so tight that his knuckles turned white.
She really didn't want to see him again.
After a thunderous sound, the car suddenly shot forward like an arrow.
Harper hurriedly grabbed the handle beside her, barely steadied herself, and then fumbled to fasten her seat belt.
Her previously rosy face turned pale from the sudden acceleration.
Feeling extremely uncomfortable, she said breathlessly, "Could you slow down a bit?"
It seemed that Francis didn't hear her. His eyes were fixed on the road ahead, and his aura was chillingly cold.
However, he did slow down a bit compared to before.
He took a sparsely populated route, and even without speeding, the heavy sense of acceleration made Harper's face turn white, leaving her dizzy and nauseous.
She couldn't understand why he was driving so fast.
Harper was feeling carsick., her Her head was spinning, and she was unable tocould not think. To alleviate the discomfort, she tried lying back and closing her eyes.
On the way, Keith, who was worried about her safety, kept calling.
In the midst of the shaking, Harper managed to slide her finger over the answer button.
Keith asked, "Harper, where are you?"
Harper's voice trembled weakly as she said, "I should be there soon."
Keith didn't say much but justsaid little but replied, "Okay, I'll wait for you at the entrance."
The car suddenly sped up, and Harper's hand was shaking, which made her phoneshook, causing her phone to fall to the floor. She didn't have the strength to pick it up. Her priority was to stay alive.
Finally, she saw the name of the coffee shop and Keith waiting by the roadside.
Harper hurriedly shouted, "Stop the car."
Francis acted as if he didn't hear her.
Harper threatened as she said, "If you don't stop, I'm going to throw up."
The car stopped right in front of Keith and was very close.
Harper's face had turned pale, and Keith's expression changed slightly but quickly returned to normal.
Harper still felt a bit panicked.
She thought, ‘Francis, thatWhat a lunatic!’.
She picked up her phone, didn’t want to say a word, and opened the car door to get out.
As soon as she stepped out, her legs went weak. Fortunately, Keith quickly caught her.
She had no strength left and leaned softly against Keith.
Although it was quite improper, she really couldn't stand up at that moment. Her legs were completely weak.
"Are you okay?" Keith's gentle voice sounded above her.
His gaze silently met Francis' in the car.
If Francis' his looks could kill, Keith would probably be a corpse by now.
Harper's hands clutching Keith's waist were still trembling slightly.
Compared to Francis' impulsive actions, Keith’s waiting for her made her feel much safer.
After a while, she finally stood up straight and apologized to him as she. She said, "Sorry, I felt a bit dizzy just now."
"It's okay."
Keith, ever the gentleman, supported her back and said, "Let's go inside."
Once seated, Harper drank an entire cup of hot coffee before she felt herself coming back to her senses.
What Keith said next shocked her.
He had fallen out with his family over a girl he liked and had started his own business. Now that he was facing obstacles in his venture, his parents wanted him to return to the family company. However, he didn't want to enter into an arranged marriage, so he asked Harper to pretend to be his girlfriend for dinner with his parents, who had just returned from abroad.
Keith explained it very tactfully, but Harper could tell that the top management ofhe had been fired by AI IA Investment had actually fired him because of Francis’ influence.
Being fired by AI IA meant no other company would hire him.
But he didn't want to compromise with his family and still wanted to wait for that girl, so he came up with this plan.
No matter what, Keith was implicated because of her.
Harper felt guilty and was about to speak when she saw Francis walking in from the corner of her eye as her. Her heart raced.
