Chapter 606 I Love You

At the edge of a quiet little town, Molly sat in the yard, bundled up in a thick down coat, soaking up the warm winter sun with her eyes half-closed in contentment.

The door creaked open, and the little black dog in the yard wagged its tail, greeting the visitor with excitement.

Kyle walked in, carrying two black fish and a basket of fruit.

Molly stood up, grabbed the medical bag slung over his shoulder, and asked, "Did Tobias send these again?"

"Yeah, he said wild ones are more nutritious and insisted I bring them back to make soup for you," Kyle replied, setting down the fish and fruit. He then broke off a chunk of a large meatball and dropped it into the dog's bowl, saying, "Extra treat today."

The little dog wagged its tail even harder and happily settled down to eat. As he fed the dog, Kyle said, "Did you guard the house well today? When I'm not home, you have to help protect Molly."

Molly chuckled, hearing him talk to the dog. "It's only a few months old, and you keep telling it this."

Kyle stood up, dusted off his hands, and said, "If I say it enough times, it'll remember."

Molly had been through a lot, and Kyle prayed every day for a bit of kindness from above. He was content as long as she and Taylor were healthy.

Molly asked, "How's Tobias' mom doing?"

Kyle replied, "She caught a chill with this cold weather. I gave her some medicine; she should be fine."

"That's good," Molly said.

They had been in this tiny, almost deserted village for nearly six months. The night they fled, they decided in the car not to leave the country. Crossing the border would leave traces, no matter how well they disguised themselves.

They figured the most dangerous place was the safest, so they stayed. They swapped cars at junkyards along the way and drove west for seven days and nights. In each town they passed, they found a junkyard to swap cars. By the time they reached this village, they were on their fifth car.

The car's tire blew out, and Tobias Hall, who lived at the village entrance, warmly invited them to rest. Tobias tried to fix the car, but since no cars ever stopped there, he was just a bicycle repairman and couldn't fix it after a long time.

Kyle told him not to bother. The car was from a junkyard and was about to be scrapped anyway. Even a repair shop might not fix it well.

He offered Tobias some cash to thank him for his hospitality, but Tobias firmly refused and invited them to stay overnight. That night, Tobias lit a bonfire for them. The village had only about a dozen people, all elderly and alone.

Tobias' household and one other were the only two remaining couples. He said this village would soon disappear because no young people were left Once this group of old folks passed away, the village would be completely empty.

That night, everyone came out because they hadn't seen young people in ages. The elders were very warm to them but not curious about their identities, only asking them to talk about the outside world and how it had changed. That night, Molly felt a long-lost warmth, reminding her of when her parents were still alive.

At night, the elders thought Molly and Kyle were a couple and gave them a room. Molly took the bed, and Kyle made himself comfortable on the floor.

Listening to the sounds of insects outside the window, Molly suddenly said, "Kyle, let's stay here."

They had planned to buy a house, but the elders said it was fate that brought them here. A couple in the village had passed away at the same time, so the house was given to Molly and Kyle.

Molly took one look at the house and fell in love with it, so they decided to stay. To show their gratitude, Kyle offered free medical care to the village elders.

The village was pretty isolated, with the nearest town over sixty miles away. Kyle bought a motorcycle and a tricycle in town to get around.

He planned to use the motorcycle in the summer and the tricycle in the winter because Molly couldn't handle the cold and needed to sit inside.

At first, to keep a low profile, they didn't leave the village for three months. Luckily, the village had enough fruits, vegetables, and meat to be self-sufficient.

After three months, Kyle started making weekly trips to town to get necessities for the villagers and to check on the situation in Northfield. He found out that Robert had been exposed in a sex scandal, which caused a huge stir and led to a judicial investigation.

While Robert was dealing with the fallout, the Perot Group's shareholders voted to remove him. Officially, Robert was on medical leave, but everyone knew he was done for.

But Robert wasn't one to go down easily. After two months of silence, he regained support by getting engaged to Rosie Mitchell and returned to the Perot Group.

Robert then turned over a new leaf, doing charity work and showing off his relationship with Rosie. He started focusing on his career quietly, as if Molly's disappearance hadn't affected him.

But seeing Robert expand his business overseas, it was clear he hadn't given up searching for Molly; he was just being more cautious now.

Luckily, Robert was following the path they had anticipated, keeping his focus overseas. Because of this, they hid Taylor and didn't bring him to the village.

Taylor was safe with his nanny, Isadora Penrose. Molly had a regular video call with Isadora every Wednesday to check on Taylor, and Taylor would also chat with Kyle. Other times, no matter how much Molly missed Taylor, she wouldn't video call him.

Until they were sure it was completely safe, they didn't dare bring Taylor to the village. But after six months of observation, they found the village was safe and very backward, making it perfect for them to live in.

They planned to bring Taylor over in the spring. His health wasn't great, and the cold mountains weren't good for his recovery.

They planned for Taylor to stay in the mountains during spring, summer, and fall, and only in warm places during winter. With Isadora taking care of him, they felt at ease. In a few years, Robert probably wouldn't be watching so closely, and then they could all live together.

As for money, there was no need to worry. Molly's investments in the country, handled under Harper's name, were enough to cover Taylor's medical expenses.

Kyle had also secretly bought a lot of property back then. Now, they just needed to wait quietly in this small village for a suitable match for Taylor. It was a bummer that she couldn't attend Harper's wedding in person, but Harper sent Molly a live stream.

Molly had stayed in the small village for two months before daring to contact Harper. Francis was an old acquaintance of Robert, and she trusted Harper's judgment, so she naturally trusted Francis too.

But Robert was very shrewd, and Molly was always afraid that Francis might inadvertently reveal something, so she asked Harper not to tell anyone, including Francis.

At the wedding, Robert, tangled up in scandals at the time, couldn't attend. The wedding was grand, and both Harper and Francis looked great and happy.

Harper told Molly many things about their experiences, and Molly was moved by Francis' sincerity and happy that Harper had finally found happiness. However, to be safe, they agreed to contact each other less and just once a year to ensure each other's safety.

The fish splashing in the water basin interrupted Molly's thoughts. Seeing Kyle washing the fruit, Molly got up and said, "Let me clean the fish."

"Leave it, I'll do it," Kyle said. He quickly handed over the washed fruit, reminding her, "Don't eat too much; it's not good to overeat."

Then, Kyle took the fish to the well to clean. The sunlight fell perfectly on Kyle's profile. The scar on his face, caused by a beating from Rene's men and delayed treatment, was faint but didn't diminish his handsomeness. He was a calm and gentle person, and even the scar on his face seemed gentle.

Molly bit into the fruit, which was very juicy. She thought everything was a cycle of cause and effect. She wasn't Kyle's salvation; she just met him at the right time. The true salvation was Kyle himself. Otherwise, Molly might not have survived.

Life went on peacefully. One day, after Kyle returned from treating the villagers, he called Molly out of the house.

Before going out, Kyle wrapped her up warmly with a scarf, hat, and gloves, fully bundled up. Then he pulled Molly outside and said, "Look."

Outside was a white expanse, with snow crystals hanging on the treetops, breathtakingly beautiful. Kyle said, "This is the first snow since we came here. Do you want to make a wish?"

Molly smiled, nodded, and closed her eyes to make a wish. Since coming here, she had smiled more than in the past few years combined. Seeing the little dog, having video calls every Wednesday, and watching Kyle return with his harvest all made her smile.

Everything made her deeply appreciate the beauty of life, which she had never dared to imagine before. Molly bowed her head and sincerely wished, "I hope every day from now on will be as simple and happy as today."

Kyle looked at her, her eyelashes dusted with snowflakes, very beautiful. Molly opened her eyes and smiled softly at him. "Aren't you going to make a wish?"

Kyle looked at her seriously and said, "My wish has come true, and it’s right beside me." Their eyes met, and the surroundings fell silent.

Molly's face, unaffected by the snow, was a bit flushed. She said softly, "Kyle, when we bring Taylor back, let's give him a home."

Kyle was stunned for a long time, unable to react. Happiness came over him suddenly, just like today's unexpected snow.

In the past six months, Kyle remembered Molly's words, knowing she wouldn't quickly move past her emotional pain, so he never mentioned it.

Kyle had thought that if Molly could never move past that pain, then living like this for a lifetime wouldn't be bad. He was willing to protect Molly and Taylor for a lifetime.

Whether as a family member or a friend, Kyle didn't mind his role as long as he was by their side. But everyone had desires. Just because he suppressed them didn't mean he didn't have them.

"Molly, am I dreaming?" Kyle slapped himself hard, making a loud sound, and his face turned red.

Molly felt distressed and touched his face. "Why did you hit yourself so hard?"

Kyle grabbed her hand tightly. "Molly, can you say it again? I feel like I'm dreaming."

Molly felt the tremor in Kyle's palm. She had thought about it for a long time. She had tried to let Kyle start a new life, but it had failed.

Taylor needed a stable father, and she needed someone who could heal her. Thinking that this person could be Kyle, Molly suddenly felt more confident in life.

Since she was alive and still wanted to live well, taking a step forward was what she needed to do. After all, Kyle had been walking bravely towards her; today, she needed to bravely take this step.

"Kyle, I want to be with you. Are you willing?" Before she could finish, cold lips touched Molly's forehead. It wasn't a kiss of passion, just a light touch, enough to feel the shiver of excitement.

Kyle felt that for this sentence, it would be worth dying for her a thousand times. "Molly, I love you." Kyle held her face, trembling. "I will love you and Taylor with my life."

Molly leaned her head against Kyle's chest. The young man's heart was beating fast, but she felt very at ease.

With Kyle by her side, she didn't have to worry or think about anything. Kyle was always thorough and gentle, sometimes making her feel like he was five years older than her.

Molly didn't know when she was moved by him. Maybe it was when Kyle stubbornly refused to swear in her name, or maybe it was the night they escaped together, or perhaps it was the night they arrived in this small village, at the bonfire, with his reassuring shoulder. And every one of those days, he came back with a smile.

There were so many moments, each one making her heart flutter. With the first snow, Molly decided to be brave. She wanted to be with Kyle, to become a family with him, and to be together for a long time.

That night, to celebrate, they decided to go to town for dinner. In the restaurant, Molly's face was warmly lit by the lights. Kyle ordered many of her favorite dishes and placed them on her plate.

They sat at a table inside. Halfway through the meal, Molly got up to go to the restroom. As she walked, she suddenly bumped into someone, causing a lighter to fall out of the man's pocket. Molly quickly apologized and reached out to pick up the lighter. The words on it made her fingers tremble.
