Chapter 315 Drawing the Line

When Francis left the police station, he looked really stressed.

Victor asked, "Mr. Getty, what's up? You okay?"

Francis, looking pale, said, "Get in the car."

Once inside, he lay in the back seat, rubbing his temples. "Pills."

Victor, a bit shocked, grabbed the painkillers from the console, poured some into the cap, and handed them over with water.

Francis took the pills without a word, swallowed them, and then said, "I need three."

Victor hesitated, "Mr. Getty, Ms. Hernandez said only two at a time. More could harm your nerves."

Francis frowned, "Give them to me."

"But..." Victor started.

Francis, annoyed, said, "Want me to make you Audrey's assistant?"

"Sorry, Mr. Getty." Victor quickly apologized and handed over the bottle.

Francis took another pill, closed his eyes, and leaned back.

Thinking about Harper leaning on Vincent made his head throb. He wanted to hurt Vincent but knew he couldn't.

Harper hated that kind of behavior, and he couldn't risk pushing her away again.

He was terrified she'd disappear again. Only he and his therapist knew how he'd survived the past five years. Without meds, he couldn't sleep.

He wouldn't give up. As long as Harper wasn't remarried, he had a chance, right?

So he didn't want things to get worse.

The car moved slowly.

Francis asked, "Has Harper come out yet?"

"Sorry, Mr. Getty, I don't know."

Victor thought Francis wouldn't want to hear about Harper after she sent him to the police station.

Francis's face darkened. "Find out where she is."

"Yes, Mr. Getty." Victor checked his computer, sweating. "Mr. Getty, Ms. Murphy is still at the police station."

Francis's eyes narrowed. "What's going on?"

"Mr. Hall from Starlight Entertainment accused Ms. Murphy of drugging him. She's being held for investigation," Victor said.

Francis's hands clenched, his face cold. "Turn around."

"Yes, Mr. Getty." Victor said.

The car turned back.

In the lobby, Victor saw Vincent pacing.

Harper had been inside for a while, and the interrogation wasn't over.

Jasper wasn't around, and Vincent's connections weren't in Northfield, so he just paced.

Francis walked past Vincent, head high, and mocked, "Can't protect her, huh?"

Without waiting for a response, Francis walked in.

Harper's interrogation had ended.

She denied everything, explaining what she remembered from that day.

But the evidence was strong, and her fingerprints were on the drug bag.

Harper was confused. How could she have drugged him, and why were her prints on the bag? It made no sense.

Just then, the door opened.

A police officer said, "Ms. Murphy's lawyer is here."

After some negotiation, the lawyer got Harper released on bail, but she couldn't leave the state until proven innocent.

Harper thought Jasper had hired the lawyer.

Outside, a well-dressed man approached her. "Hello, Ms. Murphy? I'm the lawyer Mr. Murphy hired for you."

Harper was surprised and turned to the lawyer who had just helped her. "Then who are you?"

The lawyer smiled, "Ms. Murphy, I'm the legal counsel for the Getty Group."

Harper was stunned. The legal counsel for the Getty Group? She had misunderstood Francis, yet he still helped her.

A deep voice interrupted her thoughts. "It's okay, you don't need to worry."

Harper looked up and saw Francis, looking tired but still handsome.

For a moment, she felt a mix of emotions she couldn't describe.

Vincent, having heard Harper was out, rushed over. The hall's air conditioning was cold, so he quickly draped his coat over her.

Seeing this, Francis clenched his fists again. Harper thanked Francis, acknowledging his help.

"Harper, you don't need to be so formal with me," Francis said, his voice low and hoarse from lack of sleep. He slowly unclenched his fist, his gesture unnoticed by others.

Francis smiled self-deprecatingly. He never thought he'd become so cautious, hiding his emotions. But it didn't matter, as long as Harper didn't reject him.

Harper turned to Vincent. "Vincent, did you get the phone for me?"

"Yes," Vincent said, handing her a foldable phone like her old one.

Harper operated the phone for a moment. "Mr. Getty, I just transferred $500 to you. Please check."

Francis's face turned pale. His lips pressed into a straight line. "What do you mean?"

Harper smiled, her eyes downcast. "This is your legal counsel's service. Even though it was less than an hour, I counted it as a full hour. Thank you for your help."

The room fell silent.

Francis's face tightened, looking extremely unpleasant, his deep eyes filled with sadness and embarrassment.

"Do you really have to draw such a clear line with me?" Francis asked, his voice trembling.

"Mr. Getty, we have nothing to do with each other, so there's no line to draw," Harper said matter-of-factly.

"And next time, please don't make decisions on your own. The Murphy family can afford a lawyer. I haven't committed any crime, so there's no need for such a grand gesture." In other words, she was asking Francis to stay away.

Harper knew Francis helped her, and she should thank him and pay him back, so they owed each other nothing.

But this case was too strange. She hadn't drugged anyone, and even if her fingerprints were on the paper bag, it didn't matter.

She trusted the police in Dreamlandia; at most, it would just take a few more days of investigation.

But what was Maurice's purpose in falsely accusing her? With curiosity churning inside, Harper walked out.

She ignored Francis's ugly expression. After a moment, he frowned and followed her.

Outside, Vincent quickly opened the car door for Harper.

Francis just watched, feeling like his heart was being cut by a knife. After being hurt so many times, it didn't seem to hurt as much anymore, almost numb.

Francis told himself to take it. Harper had finally returned, and he wouldn't let her run away again.

Just as Harper was about to get in the car, she got a call from Zoey.

Harper answered cheerfully, "Zoey, I'm heading home now. Has Agnes been picked up from kindergarten?"

On the other end, Zoey sounded panicked. "Ms. Murphy, something's wrong. Agnes is missing!"
