Chapter 268 I Want to Marry You
Northfield, Azure Palace Hotel.
The wedding venue was a spectacle of opulence, draped in countless red roses that exuded romance and sophistication. The stage was a shimmering haven of crystal, culminating in a gigantic, dazzling crystal screen at its center. The lavish setup was the epitome of grandeur, leaving everyone in awe.
In the VIP lounge, the bride-to-be, Quinn, was touching up her makeup in a stunning wedding dress.
Quinn asked the makeup artist, "Have any guests arrived yet?"
The makeup artist shook her head. Outside, there were only staff; no guests had shown up yet. It was a private wedding, and the whole hotel was reserved for the couple.
Noticing Quinn was nervous and sweating, the makeup artist dabbed her sweat and said, "Ms. Cane, it's only 9:30. The guests haven't arrived yet. No need to be so nervous."
Suddenly, Quinn slapped the makeup artist.
The makeup artist, stunned and holding her face, asked, "Ms. Cane, what's wrong?"
Quinn looked furious. "Who says I'm nervous?"
Since morning, Quinn's heart had been racing, and her eyelids kept twitching, giving her a bad feeling.
She tried to calm herself, thinking about her luxurious custom-made wedding dress and the grand wedding. There was nothing to be nervous about.
The slap was just her lashing out because she felt nervous.
Seeing the makeup artist still there, Quinn snapped, "Get out."
'What an unperceptive woman!' Quinn thought.
The lounge went silent.
Quinn took out her phone and called Robert.
His phone had been unreachable all morning, which was really stressing her out.
Just then, the door opened.
It was Robert, dressed in a suit.
Quinn lifted her skirt and ran to him, pouting, "Why didn't you answer the phone? I called so many times."
"My phone is broken," Robert explained.
"Oh." Quinn noticed Robert wasn't wearing the rose-red suit they had agreed on but a black suit.
He still looked handsome, but the black suit with a black tie was too somber, not fitting for a groom.
She asked, "Robert, why aren't you wearing the suit I picked for you?"
Robert stayed silent, his stern expression making Quinn uneasy.
Seeing his lips move, Quinn quickly said, "It's okay if you don't want to. You look very handsome in this suit, too."
She reached out to take Robert's arm, smiling brightly. "Let's go greet the guests. It's almost ten, and they should be arriving soon."
Robert stood still, hands in his pockets.
Quinn tugged at him, and Robert took her hands off, looking serious, "Quinn, there are no guests."
Quinn didn't get it and grabbed Robert's arm again, asking, "What's wrong? What happened to the guests?"
It didn't make sense. Even if a few guests couldn't come, it wouldn't mean no guests at all.
After a while, Robert spoke, "Quinn, I'm sorry."
The unexpected apology made Quinn's heart sink.
She was frantic, gripping Robert's arm tightly, forcing a smile.
"Robert, it doesn't matter if there are no guests. We can still have the wedding. After all, I'm marrying you. It doesn't matter if others come or not."
Quinn tried to sound confident, but her eyes gave away her anxiety. What was up with Robert?
She pushed the thought away, not wanting to dwell on it with the wedding so close.
"Quinn, there won't be a wedding," Robert said firmly. "I canceled it."
After leaving Silverleaf Suites at dawn, Robert had gone somewhere to rest but kept having nightmares. He dreamt of Molly, covered in blood, her eyes like bloody holes, accusing him, "Robert, I'm dead. Are you satisfied?"
The pain in his heart woke him up, and the words "If you want me to be your mistress, I'd rather die" echoed in his ears. He decided to cancel the wedding and had Zack inform the guests.
Quinn was in shock, grabbing Robert's sleeve. "Robert, you must be joking. Everything is ready. How can we not get married?"
"I'm sorry, Quinn. I'll make it up to you," Robert said.
Quinn shook her head, tears ruining her makeup. "No! I don't want you to make it up. I want to marry you! I just want to be your bride."
Robert's eyes showed guilt, but his tone was firm. "Quinn, I can give you anything except marriage."
Quinn screamed, "I don't want anything else. I want to marry you."
She clung to his sleeve, tears falling. "You can't abandon me. You promised you wouldn't. Marry me, please. I'll be a good wife, okay?"
Quinn cried her heart out. Marrying Robert meant everything to her.
She didn't want compensation; she wanted it all. Thinking this, she cried even harder.
Robert's expression softened.
Quinn cried desperately, not caring about her ruined makeup. She just wanted to keep Robert and have the wedding.
Just then, the door opened, and Zack walked in. Seeing the scene, he was about to leave but was stopped by Robert.
"Give me the phone," Robert said.
He had been so drunk when he left at dawn that he didn't know when his phone broke. He missed many calls in the morning because the screen didn't show them, so he turned it off.
Zack handed over a new phone.
Robert scrolled through the missed calls, some with names, some without. A voicemail notification popped up from Molly.
"I need to take this call," he told Quinn, shaking her off and moving to the side to listen to the voicemail. It was filled with static.
A bad feeling rose in his heart.
Then, Molly's sad and desperate voice came through. "Robert, save my dad."
Robert's mind exploded, feeling like the nightmare was real. His heart felt like it was being torn apart.
