Chapter 146 Are You Waiting for Me?

The person who stopped in front of Harper was actually Victor. He looked at Harper and respectfully asked, "Mrs. Getty, where are you headed?"

His address to her made Harper pause slightly, and she couldn't help but think of Francis' cold expression when she saw him a few days ago.

After a moment, she said, "Victor, I'm no longer Mrs. Getty. Please don't call me that anymore."

Francis would probably be unhappy if he heard it.

Victor looked slightly embarrassed and replied, "Alright, Mrs. Sackler, where are you going? Do you need a ride?"

Harper looked at her phone. Still, no one had accepted her ride request. She hesitated and wondered if she should ask Victor to take her to the station.

"Well..."

"Victor, why are you so nosy?"

Her words were interrupted by a deep male voice, which was clearly displeased.

The car windows were tinted, and Harper hadn't realized that Francis was sitting inside.

Suddenly, she felt very awkward.

Francis continued, "Since you're not busy and Elevate Enterprises is about to start a project in Northfield, go there and oversee it for me."

Victor felt helpless. It was Francis who had first seen Harper by the roadside and had him stop the car.

As an assistant, it was crucial for him to have sharp eyes and understand what his boss wanted even without any vocal orders.

Francis' tone was mechanical and cold. Even without seeing his face, Harper could feel his impatience.

His impatience was likely because of her, and Victor was just caught in the crossfire.

Suddenly, her nose tingled with the onset of sadness.

Harper forced a smile and lied to Victor. "A friend of mine is picking me up, Victor. You can go ahead."

Victor hesitated and glanced at the rearview mirror, from where he clearly caught Francis' displeased expression.

Noticing Victor's questioning look, Francis frowned deeply as he said, "Why haven’t you started the car yet?"

"Alright."

Victor nodded to Harper, closed the car window, and left.

The black luxury car disappeared in a blink.

Harper's eyes were still a bit moist.

There was nothing wrong with Francis' attitude since they were strangers now.

It was clear that Francis had moved on, but she still felt a bit sad because of his cold attitude.

After all, she had loved him for ten years. It's hard to accept becoming strangers without any lingering feelings.

She remembered his kindness and the pain he brought her.

These were wounds that time would heal.

Putting aside other thoughts, she now had more pressing matters to deal with.

Just as Harper was getting extremely anxious, a honk interrupted her thoughts.

A black Mercedes stopped in front of Harper, and the window rolled down to reveal Keith, whom she hadn't seen in a long time.

"Harper, what a coincidence!"

Keith seemed pleasantly surprised to see her.

"Where are you headed? I'll give you a ride."

Harper looked at her phone and didn't stand on ceremony with Keith. She got in the car and said, "Could you please take me to the station?"

"Where are you going after you get to the station?" Keith glanced at his watch. "At this time, you might not be able to get a ticket for many routes."

"I need to go back to Silvercrest."

"That's quite a coincidence. I'm heading to Crystalvale, which is very close to Silvercrest. Let's go together."

Unexpectedly, such a coincidence eased Harper's tension, and she felt very grateful.

"Then thank you, Mr. Bolton."

"You are welcome," Keith said with a smile in his eyes. "I'm the lucky one."

Harper didn't understand and asked, "What do you mean?"

Keith glanced at her and smiled. "I thought it would be a lonely journey, but it turns out God sent me an angel to accompany me."

Although she knew Keith was joking, Harper still felt shy.

She politely said, "Okay, Mr. Bolton."

"As I told you last time, don't call me Mr. Bolton. Just call me by my name, Keith."

Keith had a good sense of boundaries and could speak naturally and without any hint of ambiguity.

Harper nodded and chose a middle ground. "Thank you, Keith."

The car started, and as they passed a corner, Keith keenly noticed a black Bentley parked by the roadside.

Harper would see it if she just looked up.

Keith suddenly called out, "Harper."

Harper turned to look at him. "What's up?"

By this time, Keith's car had already passed the Bentley.

Keith relaxed his expression, looked ahead, and asked, "I heard you got divorced."

Harper nodded in response. She didn't want to talk about it, especially not with Keith.

However, Keith was different from the type to pry.

He smiled gently as he said, "You're just lost. You'll get better and better from now on."

Harper thought Keith was really good at metaphors.

In her pursuit of Francis, she not only got lost but also lost herself and ultimately ended up with unforgettable pain.

Now that she had found her way back, she was sure she would get better and better.

In the black Bentley, there was nothing but awkwardness.

Victor sneaked a glance through the rearview mirror. Francis' handsome brows were furrowed, and his whole demeanor was oppressive.

He wished he could slap himself. It was all his fault for speaking out of turn.

As a special assistant, he thought Francis was angry because Harper didn't want him to call her Mrs. Getty.

Harper wanted to distance herself from him, so of course, Francis would be angry.

But he couldn't really leave Harper stranded by the roadside, especially in this situation.

So he immediately suggested that Harper should seem to be waiting for a friend and looked quite anxious. They could reverse and pick her up.

However, just as he was about to turn the car around, he saw that Harper was indeed waiting for a friend.

And when the car passed by them, Harper even deliberately turned her head away.

She must really dislike Francis.

Victor sighed. He definitely couldn't make decisions on his own anymore.

Otherwise, the next person to go mining in Crystalvale would definitely be him.

The car was still unmoved, and Victor nervously asked, "Mr. Getty, shall we..."

Francis closed his eyes, and his lips were pressed down. "Go."

By the time Keith and Harper arrived in Silvercrest, it had been in the afternoon.

Knowing that Keith still had to go to another place, Harper felt bad about troubling him and insisted on getting off in town.

Keith knew it would be hard to change her mind, so he said, "I'll come back to pick you up after I finish my business. Then we can go back together."

Harper nodded, but she was thinking about not troubling Keith. Although Crystalvale was close to Silvercrest, it was still a detour.

Keith suddenly reached out and ruffled her hair. "Don't just nod. Would you wait for me?"

His words seemed casual but also like a test.

Harper paused for a second and then honestly said, "I don't know how long it will take. If time doesn't allow..."

"It will," Keith interrupted.

The scattered light on Keith's handsome face made him look even more gentle.

He cut off her refusal and emphasized, "If I drive back alone, I'll get sleepy with no one to talk to. Wait for me to pick you up, okay?"
