Chapter 94 She Loves to Act, and You Love to Watch

Sunny’s legs seemed to grow weak after he heard that.

He pushed Chloe away with his hand.

"I only agreed to help you find out Mr. Getty's schedule. I won’t help with the things you mentioned just now. If Mr. Getty finds out, I will be in a lot of trouble."

Moreover, Harper was Sunny’s trainer. Harper had been patient with him at the company and taught him about Francis' preferences. Otherwise, he wouldn't have been promoted so quickly to a position under Victor.

But now Chloe was asking him to do something unethical, and he didn't want to betray Harper, which would betray his moral compass.

Chloe was feeling excited and high in emotions, but then she was suddenly pushed down and slapped.

Five bright red fingerprints were left on Sunny's face where Chloe slapped him.

Chloe sneered, "What? Do you want to go to jail?"

Upon hearing that, Sunny deflated again.

He was the hope of his family, and he absolutely couldn't go to jail.

He grumbled, "I'll only help you this time."

Chloe laughed at his stupidity. Now that he had fallen into this trap, why wouldn't she fully utilize him before letting him climb out?

It was like a dream!

She toyed with him by drawing circles on his chest with her finger and teased him, "Sunny, I'm not satisfied yet. You need to..."

As happiness approached, Chloe's excited expression contorted, mixing with hatred and malice in her pupils.

She thought, ‘Harper, I’ll soon make the harlot label stick to you.’

Harper and Francis arrived at Silvercrest.

Harper bought a large bunch of white chrysanthemums from the flower shop, and then they went to a cake shop to buy some cakes her grandma liked.

The shop owner instantly remembered Harper as she had a particularly deep impression of Harper, whom she thought was pretty.

After packing the cakes, she handed them to Harper with a smile.

"Miss, these are freshly made. I'll also give you a box of the red bean flavor. Don't cry while eating like last time."

Francis, standing beside them, felt slightly uneasy upon hearing that.

He handed over a credit card, saying, "Use the card."

The owner said, "I’m sorry, as a small business, we don’t accept cards."

"I'll pay." Harper took out her wallet and paid.

When the owner handed Harper the change, she smiled and said, "Your boyfriend is really handsome, and you two look a perfect match."

Harper nodded awkwardly.

After they got into the car, Francis' mood noticeably improved, and he narcissistically said, "The owner has good taste."

Harper closed her eyes and didn't want to talk.

They arrived at the cemetery.

Harper placed the flowers and the cakes in front of her grandma's tombstone and then stood straight.

In the photo on the tombstone, her grandma had a kind and gentle smile.
She watched as a tear quietly slid from the corner of her eye.

She choked and said, "Grandma, I will definitely live a good life and not disappoint your expectations."

Francis stood beside her, his back straight. He earnestly bowed three times before saying, "I will take good care of Harper."

Upon hearing these words, Harper felt puzzled.

Today, Francis seemed strange.

Just yesterday, he had a look that seemed like he wanted to strangle her.

And now, he was pretending to be affectionate in front of Harper’s grandma. If someone didn't know the situation, they would think he loved her very much.

After the ceremony, Harper got into his car and went into town. Then, she said, "You can go back first. I will be staying here tonight."

She had rented the old house that once belonged to them. Because she hadn't been back in a long time, she was prepared to stay there that night.

Francis asked where she was going, and Harper provided an address. He drove her there and got out of the car with her.

After they pushed the door open, they could smell the faint dampness inside due to the lack of ventilation.

Francis frowned. "Are you going to live here?"

Harper calmly said, "Yes, I just need to ventilate the house first."

She had only taken a couple of steps inside when Francis grabbed her arm and said, "You can't live here. If you want to stay for the night, I'll find a hotel for you."

Harper became stubborn and shook his hand off. "I will stay here. I never asked you to stay."

She had once spent a very happy childhood here. He may dislike this place, but she didn't.

"But it's still not okay. This place has too much dampness and bacteria, and you're pregnant."

Harper stared at him, finally unable to hold back, and said, "Francis, you really don't have to do this."

Her words saddened Francis, who narrowed his eyes and said, "Do what?"

"I mean, you don't have to pretend to care so much about the baby."

"Do you think I'm pretending?" His expression changed slightly as if he was suppressing anger.

"Isn't that the case?" Harper retorted.

He clearly hated this baby to the bone and wanted her to have an abortion.

Even if she had explained that it was his baby, he still didn't believe it.

There was really no need for this anymore.

Francis stared at her with his charming eyes full of anger. "Harper, stop picking a fight."

He didn't drive hundreds of miles just to argue with her there.

Harper didn't understand why wanting to stay at the old house was picking a fight and why he had to arrange everything himself.

She couldn’t even decide whether she could keep the baby in her belly.

She was truly tired of this constrained life.

"Who is the one causing trouble here? Instead of wasting time, why don't you go check on your beloved who fell down the stairs? Since she loves to put on a show and you love to watch, don't stay here and make each other unhappy."

Francis coldly chuckled, "You've been holding a grudge all this time just because you're so eager to go to Keith, right?"

Harper couldn't be bothered to explain, knowing he wouldn't believe her, so she said, "You can make any assumptions you wish."

Francis, infuriated, his veins bulging, looked at her with sharp eyes. At that moment, his phone vibrated. He looked at it, and it was Chloe calling again. His mind heated up, and right in front of Harper, he answered, "Chloe, what's wrong?"

On the other end, Chloe was sobbing, saying she was hurting and wanted to see him. When Francis was on the call, his eyes fell on Harper, but her indifferent demeanor pierced him to the core.

He hung up without a word, turned around, and left. As the car sped away, the phone he had prepared to give to Harper fell out, enraging him. He furiously opened the car window and threw it into the river.

He would not give her the phone and would not allow her to contact Keith.

After Francis left, Harper felt more at ease. She began to quietly clean the house, taking the bedding outside to air it. When she first rented this house after it was sold, she signed a three-year lease. She hoped that she could save enough money to buy it back in the future. Therefore, everything inside still retained the appearance of when she and her grandma lived there. Although those things were a bit old, they made her feel warm.

For dinner, Harper made some noodles. After eating, she lay on the bed staring at the ceiling, regretting not buying a phone that day. Now, not having a phone was inconvenient. In a daze, she began to feel sleepy.

Suddenly, the room went dark as all the lights went out. Startled, Harper thought there was a power outage. She got up to find a flashlight. When she found it and stood by the window, she saw lights in the distance, indicating that only her place had lost power.

Shortly after, she heard a faint scraping sound coming from outside the door. She thought she must have misheard and held her breath. The next moment, the sound grew louder—someone was trying to pry open the door. Harper's spine tingled with cold sweat, and goosebumps covered her entire body.
