Chapter 369 I'm on your side

Chloe kept her head down, not reacting at all, no matter how much the guy cussed her out.

This place? Yeah, it was rented by that junk collector dude, and he was the one who picked her up. If it wasn't for him, she'd be out on the streets.

She was broke, and her body was a mess, needing treatment she couldn't afford. Her injuries weren't healing; they were just getting worse.

After the limping guy shoved the door open and left, Chloe finally looked up.

Half her face was okay, but the other half? Looked like it got torched, all messed up and scary.

She got hit by a car and dragged on the asphalt after being dumped on the roadside, ripping off half her skin. The pain was unreal.

She tried to get some cash from the driver to settle it quietly, but the driver wanted to call the cops and go through insurance.

Chloe freaked out, didn't want to get caught, so she bolted, pain and all. Her face never got treated, and after it scabbed over, it looked all jacked up.

Now, she had no money, no friends, and her family was out of the picture. She was stuck here, barely hanging on. The limping guy wanted to kick her out, but no way was that happening.

A nasty glint flashed in Chloe's eyes.

Just then, the door swung open.

Chloe wasn't wearing anything below, but she didn't care. She slowly lifted her head.

Standing there was a guy in a black suit, rocking a half-gold mask, with eyes sharp like an eagle's.

"Want revenge?" Jonathan cut to the chase.

"Can you help me?" Chloe didn't even ask who he was, just if he could help.

Her face and body were wrecked! Would she really accepted what happened to her? No chance!

But Francis had a bunch of bodyguards, and she couldn't get near him.

And Harper? She was tough to get to as well.

Chloe wanted payback but had no way to get it. Now that someone showed up, she didn't care who he was as long as they were on the same page.

Jonathan was surprised Chloe got it so fast without much explaining.

He didn't say more, tossed a stack of cash, and said, "This is a good spot to lay low. Stay here and heal up. When the time's right, I'll let you know."

With that, Jonathan turned to leave.

"Wait!" Chloe called out, looking at him. "Got any poison that can kill instantly?"

Being an assassin for years, Jonathan knew exactly what Chloe was after.

She was bad and ruthless enough! She could pull off something big before she died!

After Jonathan left, the limping guy came back after selling a load of junk.

For once, Chloe was dressed and had even prepared some water. When she saw the limping guy come in, she eagerly got out of bed to pour him some water.

The limping guy was surprised and sneered, "Even a dead fish knows how to flop around."

He was super thirsty and downed the water in one go.

Then he handed the bowl to Chloe and said, "If you can help out around here, maybe I won't have to kick you out..."

As he spoke, the limping guy suddenly froze, couldn't talk, and his throat felt like it was on fire.

He jabbed his grimy finger at Chloe, eyes practically popping out.

Chloe slapped him to the ground.

Then she spat and said, "Old bastard, go to hell."

The limping guy died with his eyes wide open, too bitter to close them.

Chloe, fuming, imagined his eyes as her enemy's and gouged them out with a knife.

Then, she struggled to drag the limping guy to a busted fridge and shoved him in.

Chloe looked around, from fancy high-rise villas to grimy shacks. The reason she ended up like this was all because of Harper. She shouldn't have survived. It would've been better if she had died when she fell into the river.

Chloe's hatred had long since seeped into her bones. She had to make Harper pay.

Twilight Lounge.

After the waiter shut the door, Jasper's gaze fell on Francis across from him, his thin lips curling slightly, "Mr. Getty, aren't you supposed to be in the hospital? How come you're out and about? It's a pity Harper is so naive, still foolishly at home learning to make oatmeal today."

Francis felt a warmth in his heart, which showed on his handsome face with a faint smile.

That smile was particularly annoying to Jasper, who snorted coldly, "Seems like Mr. Getty's skill in manipulating people is as sharp as ever."

Francis still looked sickly, the corners of his lips downturned, and he said sincerely, "Jasper, you got me wrong. I would never play with Harper's feelings. I truly love her."

Jasper wasn't buying it, his expression cold as he said, "I advise you to give up. As long as I'm alive, you will never be able to get close to Harper!"

He got to his feet, dusted off his pants, and said coldly, "I've made myself clear. Don't waste your breath. You don't need to wait for the oatmeal; I've already grounded Harper."

Jasper was stubborn, something Francis had realized from their first interaction. So, he waited for Jasper's anger to subside before speaking calmly, "Jasper, I know you returned to the country to secure the domestic shipping project of Zenith Global Enterprises."

Jasper paused, turned back, and said coldly, "What do you mean? You investigated me?"

"Don't worry, I'm on your side. I would never harm you," Francis said.

Jasper was furious; no one else knew his purpose for coming back, yet Francis had easily guessed it.

Jasper narrowed his eyes, a hint of caution rising in his heart.

Francis's thin lips curved as he said, "I can help you secure the project."

"You?" Jasper questioned.

Did he think Jasper hadn't done his background check?

Jasper sneered, "I remember you haven't been involved in shipping, and if I'm not mistaken, the Harris family is the most likely to get the contract, and they don't get along with the Getty family."

Francis raised an eyebrow. "The Harris family and the Getty family don't get along, but there's a scandal involving the Harris family that might interest you."

This statement hit Jasper's weak spot. If the Harris family could be eliminated, he would be guaranteed to win.

However, if Francis's goal was to make Jasper trade Harper's happiness, he couldn't do it.

Jasper said coldly, "I know what you want. If you want me to relent, it's not happening."

Francis pushed the file folder on the table towards Jasper and said softly, "Jasper, why not take a look first."
