Chapter 587 Both Children Resemble That Man
The doctor was taken aback, not getting why the fresh blood needed to be tested for diseases.
She said, "Fastest is forty minutes. If it's busy, maybe ninety minutes or more."
"Forget it," Francis said firmly.
Francis's words snapped Jasper and Vincent back to reality. Someone was out to hurt Harper, maybe even injected a virus into the medical staff.
Untested blood was a no-go. No one was risking Harper's life!
The doctor was confused, "Even if we airlift blood bags, it's over four hours away. With tonight's heavy snow, flying's a no. It might not get here overnight, and the mother can't wait that long."
Jasper was desperate. His blood type didn't match Harper's, and neither did Vincent's.
Francis stepped up, "Use mine."
The doctor asked, "Are you type B?"
Francis replied, "I have O Rh-negative blood."
The doctor was shocked. O Rh-negative blood could be given to anyone, no matter their blood type.
Jasper's eyebrows knitted together. No wonder Francis's blood type was never public. Such a rare type, if enemies knew, it could be dangerous.
A simple trap could cost Francis his life.
"But..." The doctor hesitated, "The amount you alone can donate isn't enough for the mother. With the current bleeding, we need blood from at least five people."
Francis was already losing patience. He rolled up his sleeve and stepped in, "Then take as much as needed!"
Jasper thought it was risky. Taking the max amount of blood from just Francis seemed unreliable.
Wouldn't that drain Francis dry?
"What are you waiting for!" Francis ignored them and threatened the doctor, "If anything happens to the woman inside, none of you performing the surgery will be off the hook!"
The doctor was so scared she stuttered.
Jasper said, "Let's draw one round first. I'll figure out the rest."
He couldn't just watch Harper bleed out.
After Francis went in, he saw Harper on the delivery bed, her hair drenched in sweat.
He sat next to her, holding her hand, and told the doctor, "Draw it here!"
The blood transfusion began, and the doctor was still trying various methods to stop Harper's bleeding, but nothing worked.
The first time, Francis had 800 milliliters of blood drawn. After transfusing it to Harper, it barely made a difference.
The doctor estimated Harper had already lost over 2500 milliliters of blood and was still bleeding.
A normal adult has about 4000 milliliters of blood. Such a loss, if not transfused in time, would be fatal.
Francis could tell from the doctor's face that 800 milliliters wasn't enough.
He said firmly, "Keep going!"
The doctor hesitated but knew Harper needed the blood more urgently.
The doctor drew another 1000 milliliters from Francis. After transfusing it to Harper, her heart rate finally improved a bit.
But she still needed more blood.
Meanwhile, Francis, who had been overdrawn, was already turning pale. A quick check showed he looked like he was recovering from a serious illness and couldn't take much more.
No matter how much more blood Harper needed, they couldn't take any more from Francis. Otherwise, it might be Francis who'd end up dead!
Jasper sent word from outside that they were arranging for safe Rh-negative and type B blood, but it would take at least two hours. That seemed way too long for Harper's condition.
Francis watched Harper, still unconscious, her heart rate not where it should be.
He said in a deep voice, "Keep going!"
The doctor replied, "You can't draw any more, sir."
Francis's voice turned icy, "I said keep going!"
The doctor had never seen someone so crazy, and the bodyguards Francis brought looked menacing. If anything happened to Harper, Francis would probably tear the hospital apart.
The doctor had no choice but to draw another 800 milliliters.
With the new blood, Harper's heart rate rose again. Everyone breathed a sigh of relief, but then a doctor on the operating table screamed, "She's bleeding again!"
And the blood was flowing fast. The heart rate that had just risen was dropping rapidly. The situation was critical!
Francis gritted his teeth and said, "Draw 1500 milliliters!"
"Sir, be rational. You've already given 2600 milliliters. If you draw another 1500, you'll have no blood left. And the Rh-negative blood bags are contaminated. If you keep going, not only will she be in danger, but you will be too."
The doctor refused to take responsibility for another life and firmly refused to draw more.
Unexpectedly, Francis grabbed a scalpel and pointed it at his wrist artery, "Will you draw, or should I cut it myself?"
The doctor was terrified and said, "Sir, please put down the knife."
"Will you draw or not?" Francis demanded, his eyes fierce.
Under Francis's pressure, the doctor made the maximum estimate and drew 1200 milliliters from him.
After transfusing the blood into Harper, her condition finally stabilized.
Hearing the doctor say Harper was okay, the pale-lipped Francis said with great difficulty, "Please, save her."
Then, finally passed out and collapsed on the bed.
The doctor called for people to resuscitate him.
A total of 3800 milliliters. It was a miracle Francis had held on this long!
Jasper finally relaxed after hearing Harper was okay, but seeing Francis being wheeled into another operating room for emergency treatment made his feelings very complicated.
What Francis did surpassed what he, as a close family member, could do.
Of course, if Jasper's blood type matched, he would have done the same without hesitation, even if it meant being drained dry.
Jasper had promised Elodie that he would take care of Harper for life and would never break that promise.
Now, Francis had done it too.
Jasper sincerely hoped that Francis could pull through. He didn't want anything to happen to him; otherwise, Jasper wouldn't be able to face Harper.
Jasper knew Harper's attitude was actually a cover for her lack of confidence. She was afraid of falling again, which was why she was particularly cold towards Francis.
But now, Francis had proven with his actions that he was someone worth trusting.
Jasper turned to Vincent and said, "Vincent, you're my good friend, but..."
Jasper paused and then said, "If Francis can pull through, I hope you can step aside."
These words were tough to say, but Jasper had to get them out.
Jasper didn't mean that Vincent wasn't good enough for Harper. If Vincent had O Rh-negative blood, Jasper believed he would also donate it to Harper without a second thought.
Not just because Harper was someone Vincent liked, but even if Jasper were in danger, Vincent would do the same for him.
However, Jasper could see clearly that Harper's feelings for Francis weren't as cold as they seemed.
Jasper hoped that Francis and Harper would stop misunderstanding each other and wasting their time. They should be together.
Jasper said to Vincent, "I understand Harper. I don't want to separate them anymore."
Vincent felt a pang of bitterness, but he could somewhat sense what Jasper was saying.
Sometimes, he just wanted to deceive himself.
Vincent said painfully, "I understand you, Jasper."
Harper felt like she had slept for a long time. In her dream, someone kept encouraging her, calling her, telling her not to give up.
She opened her eyes and saw Jasper, with red eyes, sitting by her bed. Naturally, she thought it was him who had been calling her.
"Jasper," Harper's voice choked.
The feeling of weakness all over her body, combined with Jasper's heavy expression, made her guess that she had been through a dangerous ordeal.
"You're awake," Jasper said joyfully. "Do you feel uncomfortable anywhere?"
Harper shook her head.
She felt very weak and lacked energy, but was otherwise fine.
"That's good," Jasper asked again. "Are you hungry? The doctor said you can have something light."
Harper shook her head, "I'm not really hungry. How're the babies? Are they safe?"
"They're very healthy," Jasper said.
Jasper, afraid that Harper would worry, added, "You don't need to worry. Although you gave birth more than ten days early, the doctor said it was full-term. The babies have no problems at all. I'll have someone bring them over for you to see later."
Harper finally felt relieved.
At this moment, Vincent came in to see Harper.
Harper, with her sharp eyes, immediately noticed the injury on Vincent's face, "Vincent, what happened to your face?"
Vincent's expression was unnatural for a second, "I accidentally fell."
Harper didn't believe it. Recalling how fierce Francis was towards Vincent that day, she said, "Did someone hit you?"
She guessed that since Francis cared so much about the babies, he would definitely blame Vincent for her early labor, thinking it was because he gave her ice cream and seafood.
Vincent said, "No, really, I fell. If you don't believe me, ask Jasper."
Harper looked at Jasper and asked, "Is it true?"
"Yeah, I can vouch for that," Jasper said.
Hearing Jasper say the same, Harper felt reassured. She was very weak at the moment and couldn't think about many things.
After a while, Isla and Ronald brought the two babies in. Harper gazed at the two tiny children, finding them utterly adorable, their miniature features already hinting at handsome features, especially resembling Francis.
Harper felt a bit deflated and muttered, "Why do they look so much like him!"
Jasper heard it but pretended not to.
After the babies were taken away, Harper ate some nutritious food and was urged by the doctor to rest.
Jasper remained by her bedside.
Harper asked, "Jasper, where is he?"
Without needing to specify, Jasper knew who she was talking about.
Francis cared so much about the babies. How come he hadn't come to see them after she gave birth? Could it be that what she said in the park that day hurt him?
Harper couldn't believe Francis was being so vulnerable, especially since he was the one in the wrong at the park that day.
Jasper stammered, "He should be busy with the project. The final draft is due in a couple of days."
Harper frowned. Wouldn't he even have time to see the babies?
"Don't blame him. He'll probably be very busy these next few days," Jasper explained.
Harper looked at Jasper suspiciously, "Jasper, what's the deal? Why are you sticking up for him?"
She was confused why Jasper was taking Francis's side.
Jasper denied, "Nothing. I'm just being honest. He actually cares about you a lot."
Harper felt something was off.
Jasper had been the most opposed before. Even though he had come to terms with it somewhat, he still maintained an attitude of not allowing Francis to get too close.
"Jasper, seriously, what's wrong with you?" Harper asked.
Jasper coughed lightly, "I just think that since he's the father of the children, getting closer wouldn't be bad for you or the kids. Besides, he definitely cares more about you than the average person."
Harper grabbed Jasper's arm and asked, "Jasper, be honest with me. Is our family bankrupt? Can you not support me and the kids anymore, and you're in a hurry to send us away?"
Jasper choked, "What nonsense are you talking about? Our business is doing well. Even if you had ten more kids, I could still provide them with a very affluent life."
Harper was still suspicious, "But you're making me very uneasy. Don't worry, I have my own money. If you're having financial difficulties, I have a few billion dollars you can use to get by."
Jasper said helplessly, "Stop overthinking. I'm not short of money. Your money is yours. Half of the Murphy Family's business profits are also yours. You don't need to worry about it."
Harper nodded, "Jasper, then act normal."
Jasper was at a loss for words. Harper's body was still weak, and he didn't want to reveal too much. He decided to wait until she was better.
After a few days of recuperation, Harper's spirits improved, and she began preparing to breastfeed the babies.
With two babies, and her body not fully recovered, she had to combine breastfeeding with formula feeding.
Fortunately, the two babies were very healthy and took to formula well, which eased Harper's concerns.
Because the babies were easy to care for, Harper's mood improved significantly.
Jasper and the others were already working on a plan to rescue Elodie. He didn't want Harper to worry and promised to tell her once the plan was finalized.
Harper knew that her most important task was to recover well and not let them worry, so she wouldn't hold them back.
After another half month of recuperation, Harper was able to take short walks in the small garden downstairs.
While walking in the small garden, Harper heard a familiar girl's voice. "So what if I find a man to piss you off? Who told you to ignore me!"
