Chapter 609 I Don't Like Men
As soon as those words left his mouth, the vibe at the table went ice-cold. Luckily, Patrick had stepped out for a bit and missed the whole thing. But Rosie was right there, and being put on the spot like that was super awkward.
Rosie shot Adrian a nasty look, basically telling him to shut up without saying a word. They didn't share the same mom, so there wasn't much sibling love between them.
Adrian kept his guard up around Rosie despite knowing her well. A little buzzed, Adrian said, "Rosie, chill out. I'm just curious. Mr. Perot seems like a fun guy, always showing off his tricks. I wonder if he's cool with playing around with others."
"Adrian, shut up!" Rosie snapped, unable to hold back.
But Adrian wasn't backing down; he was still pissed about what happened last time. He used to mess around with women, and Patrick knew but didn't really care.
Technically, it was against the rules to mess with company women, but that chick was so hot he couldn't resist. They hooked up, and she was amazing. But before he could get more of that, Molly stepped in, and Patrick transferred her away.
Adrian could've kept having his fun, so he started hating Molly and Robert for ruining it. Robert, with his holier-than-thou act, was actually a bigger player than Adrian.
Ignoring everyone else at the table, Adrian kept going, "Mr. Perot, I heard you've been looking for that woman. Was she that unforgettable?"
Bringing up Molly hit a nerve with Rosie, making her go pale. Rosie had dropped hints, both obvious and subtle, that Robert didn't need to wait until their wedding to sleep with her. Robert was her legit fiancé, so it made sense for them to get it on.
But Robert wouldn't touch her, no matter how much she hinted. He wouldn't even kiss her. One time, she tried to kiss him, but he pulled away after just a peck.
Adrian's comment made Rosie start to worry. 'Could Robert really not get over Molly?' she wondered.
"Mr. Mitchell, where'd you hear that?" Robert finally looked up. He couldn't ignore Adrian's jabs anymore. But Robert only responded because Rosie was there. He couldn't let her start doubting him; clingy women were a pain to deal with.
Still, Robert didn't take Adrian seriously at all. Adrian was just a spoiled brat who even managed to steal a contract to get Molly to betray Robert. So, Robert wasn't gonna let Adrian off easy, but now wasn't the time.
Adrian sneered, "Oh, I've got solid proof. Mr. Perot, worried Rosie will get her heart broken? I think Rosie's pretty tough. She saw that video and still loves you like crazy. It's kinda impressive."
Adrian's words, though sounding like praise, were actually mocking Rosie for being pathetic, unable to keep her man from fooling around.
Rosie got the message loud and clear, and her face went even paler. She really hated having this brought up again. She knew Molly was Robert's first love. They started dating back in college but had a major falling out later.
Rosie just didn't expect that after all these years, they were still tangled up. Robert even slept with Molly. Rosie had watched that video closely because she just wanted to see what Robert was like in bed.
And honestly, Robert was captivating no matter what he did. Even though the whole thing was almost brutal, his ridiculously handsome face still made her heart race. Especially at the end, when Robert finished, the look of satisfaction in his eyes was something Rosie had never seen before.
It made Rosie really scared, like maybe Robert still had deep feelings for Molly. She'd heard Molly had run off, and Rosie hoped she never came back. Otherwise, Rosie didn't know what she might do.
Robert said coldly, "Mr. Mitchell, instead of worrying about me and Rosie, you should worry about your own health."
Robert's words ticked Adrian off. "What do you mean by that?"
Robert calmly looked up and said, "Mr. Patrick Mitchell is so eager for a grandchild. Mr. Adrian Mitchell, you've been with so many women for so long, but why haven't you had a kid with someone for the Mitchell family? Could it be that there's something wrong with you?"
Adrian panicked for a moment. He'd been wild in his younger years, sleeping with both men and women, which had caused some fertility issues. It was indeed hard for him to have a kid.
Even though Adrian never used condoms, he couldn't get anyone pregnant. He had no idea how Robert knew that. Patrick had long been dissatisfied with Adrian. If Patrick found out Adrian couldn't have kids, he'd be in big trouble.
"Robert, stop talking crap. You think you're so great? Are you planning to have a kid to inherit the Mitchell family's fortune?" Adrian, drunk and pissed, blurted out without thinking.
Robert calmly replied, "Thanks for your concern, Mr. Mitchell. I will have a son."
As soon as he said that, Rosie's pale face immediately softened. They were getting married in three months. If Robert said he'd have a son, that meant he'd have a son with her.
Instantly, Rosie felt all her worries disappear. As long as she had a child, she could tie Robert down, and they'd surely have a good life together.
Adrian, gritting his teeth in anger, became more certain that Robert knew something. "Robert, you're pretty confident."
Adrian turned to Rosie and provoked, "Rosie, you better open your eyes. He said he'd have a son, but he didn't say it would be with you. Don't get too full of yourself. Robert doesn't love you at all..."
Before Adrian could finish, Patrick smacked him on the head. "What nonsense are you spouting?"
Patrick looked at Adrian's dark-circled, lifeless eyes with disdain. "Can't you say anything normal? This is your sister's husband. Speak properly!"
Adrian wanted to curse, 'What? Sister? She's just someone Patrick had with a mistress!'
Patrick doted on Rosie precisely because she resembled her mother, who had passed away and was the woman Patrick missed the most. However, Adrian didn't inherit Patrick's sentimental nature at all. He loved one after another and then forgot them all.
"Robert, don't be mad. Adrian is spoiled by me. You'll need to guide him more in business; he's not as capable as you," Patrick said.
Patrick was getting old, and Adrian was the only man in the family. He couldn't really abandon him. Although Patrick disapproved of some of Robert's actions in the past, he recognized Robert's business acumen, despite his mishandling of women. No matter what, Robert was a hundred times better than Adrian.
Besides, in their social circle, it was normal for men to fool around with women. As long as they were capable, other minor issues could be overlooked. With the marriage bond, Robert would inevitably take care of Adrian a bit.
But Patrick was clearly mistaken. Robert was a vengeful person. If Adrian's previous provocations towards him and Rosie could be laughed off, what Adrian said at the end of the party made Robert want to kill him.
"Mr. Perot, no wonder you like that Molly. She's skinny but has a great figure. Even I can't resist," Adrian said, feeling disgruntled after being scolded by Patrick and wanting to make Robert uncomfortable.
Knowing that Robert cared about Molly, Adrian deliberately said, "I watch that video of you and her every time before I have sex. It's better than any drug. Just seeing her graceful body makes me..."
Robert's calm expression instantly turned dark, and the murderous intent in his eyes made Adrian take a step back.
"Don't look at me like that. I'm not afraid of you," Adrian said, but he unconsciously hid behind a bodyguard. After all, Robert's look just now was terrifying, as if he wanted to tear Adrian apart.
Robert was silent for a second, then his demeanor became calm again. Robert had spent a lot of money to deal with that video, so it shouldn't be online. But it was possible that someone had deliberately kept a copy.
Robert flashed a dazzling smile and said, "Mr. Adrian Mitchell, remember not to say such things again. I don't like men. If you keep my video, people might think you have feelings for me. Mr. Patrick Mitchell is getting old. If he hears such rumors, he might be furious, and then you'd be the sinner."
"You!" Adrian was infuriated. He had clearly said he was reacting to Molly, but Robert twisted it to make it about himself.
People around them whispered, wondering if he had a thing for Robert. But Robert had righteously rejected him, clearly stating he didn't like men.
Everyone knew Robert always liked women, so he couldn't be interested in men. As a result, the people around them became more suspicious of Adrian's interest in Robert.
People whispered to each other, spreading the rumor that Adrian had been rejected by Robert after a failed love confession. But that was a story for another time.
The next day, Adrian had a rough time. While throwing a wild party at his place, someone jumped him, put a sack over his head, and nearly cut off his genitals. Though they didn't succeed, the scissors left a deep psychological scar, giving him nightmares.
To make matters worse, the intruder wiped all the data from his computer and phone, making it impossible to recover. All the videos on his devices were deleted, not just others' but his own too. Adrian didn't need to think hard to figure out who was behind it.
The next day, Adrian's sex tapes were leaked, spreading all over Northfield. Adrian's wild lifestyle caused the Mitchell family's stock to tank, leading to a huge financial hit. He complained to Patrick, but Patrick wasn't having it.
Patrick was already pissed about the rumors, thinking Adrian keeping a video of Robert and Molly was ridiculous. So, when Adrian whined, Patrick grounded him and put people on him to keep an eye.
Adrian was livid. He didn't expect that running his mouth would cause such a mess. Feeling wronged and frustrated, unable to have sex for a while, he hated Robert even more.
In the underground parking lot, Robert leaned back in his seat, which was pushed all the way back. His long legs stretched out straight. His face showed a charming expression of satisfaction. He was a healthy man in his prime with strong needs, and he always took care of them himself.
The car screen still showed the scene of Molly kneeling and begging him. At that time, he didn't want to see her pleading face for Kyle, so he made her turn around, grabbed her hair from behind, and coldly slammed her against the glass. Robert's eyes darkened, and he forced himself to turn off the screen, then fastened his belt buckle.
In the video, Molly's tearful, pitiful face was all for Kyle. The emptiness after satisfaction made Robert's handsome face show a hint of melancholy, a stark contrast to his usual cold demeanor.
Adrian, grounded and unable to play with women, was very frustrated. At this time, someone came to visit.
Seeing the visitor, Adrian took a moment to remember that this was Max, his aunt Thalia's brother-in-law, who had some connection with his family. Last he heard, Max had offended Robert and lost everything because of it.
And it was also said to be because of Molly. Adrian raised an eyebrow, feeling like he had found an ally since both had fallen because of the same woman.
Adrian liked Max because he was good at flattering people and made Adrian very happy. Max was probably down and out now, hating Robert to the core.
"Mr. Mitchell, I heard you've been unwell lately, so I came to check on you," Max said with a fawning smile, handing the health supplements he brought to the servant.
To Max, Adrian was now a big backer, someone who could help him regain his business and return to Northfield.
"You're too kind, Max. I'm fine," Adrian said. "What brings you here?"
Max smiled and said, "Mr. Mitchell, I heard you have had some unpleasant dealings with Mr. Perot recently."
