Chapter 628 Murder Plot
Molly got out of the car and walked towards him, calling his name directly. "Rhett Smith."
Rhett looked surprised. He had already resigned and didn't know Molly, so he was shocked that she knew his name.
"Who are you?" Rhett asked.
Molly approached and looked at him, saying, "Who I am doesn't matter. I'm asking you, did you tamper with the blood samples at the lab on the 13th of this month?"
Rhett looked astonished and stared at Molly, his lips moving, "What nonsense are you talking about? I resigned a long time ago. How could I tamper with the lab?"
Molly knew he wouldn't admit it, but from his expression, it was clear that Rhett definitely had a problem.
She said calmly, "You did resign, but Sloane didn't, right?"
Rhett's face fell, but he quickly composed himself and said, "What nonsense are you talking about? What does Sloane have to do with me?"
He didn't know that Molly had been staking out here for a while, nor did he know that Molly had already discovered his unusual relationship with Sloane.
"Watch your mouth and shut up. If you dare to talk nonsense again, I'll tear your mouth apart!" Rhett warned her viciously.
It was late at night, and there was no one around.
Rhett thought that Molly, being a woman, would surely be scared, so he tried to threaten her.
Molly wasn't afraid of him at all. If Rhett harmed her, she could send him to the police for investigation. "Just now, you and Sloane came out of that restaurant one after the other. There's an illegal place, right? If I call the cops now, do you think you'll be taken in for questioning?"
Rhett panicked for a moment, "You... you've been following me?"
"Of course. If I didn't know about you, I wouldn't have come to find you. And Sloane has a husband. What do you think will happen if her husband finds out?" Molly deliberately left her words half-said, making it seem like she knew everything, but in reality, she didn't know much.
She had gathered information from casual chats with the janitor at the lab. She didn't know what Sloane's husband did or where he worked.
But Molly couldn't show that. She had to act like she knew everything to scare Rhett.
Sure enough, Rhett started to get scared and asked nervously, "What do you want?"
"I want to know if you and Sloane switched the blood samples on the 13th," Molly asked directly. The situation was already not hard to guess.
From Rhett's expression, it was clear that he was involved, and since he had resigned, he could only do it through Sloane at the lab.
Robert's people were not fools. It was easier to get to Rhett than to Sloane.
The janitor said that Sloane came from a good family and had two kids, so she wouldn't easily take risks and do something wrong.
But if Rhett asked her to do it, it would be different.
Rhett's sweet talk could easily persuade Sloane, who was in love.
"How did you know..." Rhett suddenly realized something was wrong and changed his words, "Stop talking nonsense!"
Maybe it was because he had just had a good time, and it was late at night, so Rhett's mind wasn't as sharp as during the day. He almost let something slip, which would have been a big mistake.
"You think whatever you say is true? Stop talking nonsense!" Rhett threatened viciously, then got into his car, intending to leave.
Molly banged on the car window, wanting to ask more questions, but Rhett suddenly started the car and knocked her to the ground.
Molly didn't chase after him. Even though it was late, it was still a residential area, and she wasn't afraid of him.
But if she chased Rhett, he might take desperate measures and harm her.
Molly originally wanted to call Caspian, but it was too late, so she sent a text message to inform him of the situation.
Unexpectedly, Caspian was still awake. He replied: [I'll look into this person.]
Molly got back into her car and prepared to stake out at Sloane's house, using Sloane as a breakthrough point.
The information she had was not enough to prove that Robert's test results were problematic. She needed concrete evidence, like a confession.
But it was difficult. Robert's people were always careful, and the temptation they offered was probably enough, along with threats.
It was hard for people bought by Robert to recant.
So Molly thought about gathering more evidence. The private interactions between these two were already unusual.
As long as she had this evidence, even if she couldn't overturn the case, she could use the media to negotiate with the lab for a retest for Robert.
Molly started the car and had just turned a corner when she saw a car coming straight at her.
The car had its high beams on, blinding Molly. She blinked, and in that split second, the car was already in front of her.
The speed was incredibly fast.
Molly panicked, sensing something was wrong. It seemed like the car was coming straight for her.
In a split second, Molly sharply turned the steering wheel, swerving to the side and narrowly avoiding a collision.
This time, she saw clearly that the car was silver.
It was Rhett's car, which had just left in a hurry and now returned.
Instantly, a bad feeling rose in Molly's heart.
She quickly shifted gears to move forward, but because her car was cheap, it stalled after just a few steps.
On the deserted street at night, Molly's car was left alone in the middle of the road.
The sound of the accelerating car came again, and a blinding white light shone from behind.
Molly glanced in the rearview mirror and was immediately blinded by the light.
It was clear that Rhett, who had missed her earlier, had turned around.
The roaring car and the blinding light made it seem like Rhett wouldn't stop until he wrecked Molly's car.
Molly didn't understand why Rhett, who had just fled in panic, suddenly became desperate and wanted to kill her.
Where did Rhett get such courage?
Molly didn't have time to think about it. She frantically shifted gears and stepped on the gas.
The car still didn't respond. She tried again and again, and just as the car behind was about to hit her, the engine finally roared to life.
Molly gripped the steering wheel tightly and swerved to avoid Rhett's oncoming car.
Her old manual car couldn't compete with Rhett's, so she had to dodge and run.
Even though she had dodged, the left rear of her car was still hit hard by the silver car, making a loud noise.
The trunk was knocked open, but Molly didn't care. She stepped on the gas and sped away in the opposite direction of the silver car.
This way, when the silver car turned around, she could buy herself some time to escape.
Sure enough, the silver car was also damaged and stalled after speeding away.
But Rhett quickly restarted it.
A call came in on Rhett's phone from an unknown number. He answered, and Zack's voice came through. "Is it done?"
