Chapter 489 He's Not the Father
Francis's face was like ice as he stared at Abigail for a sec, then yanked Harper away.
Audrey felt the folks behind her leave, and her shaky body finally calmed down. She hugged Abigail tight and said, "Mom, thanks."
Abigail looked a bit stiff and asked, "For what, Audrey? We're family."
"Of course, Mom. Time for your meds." Audrey grinned, "I'll go grab 'em for you."
After Audrey left, Abigail stared at the ceiling, replaying the morning's events in her head. Her dizziness was from the water Audrey gave her, and the fall? That was 'cause the handrail she grabbed suddenly got loose.
Why'd it get loose? Abigail knew as long as Audrey was around, weird stuff would keep happening. But she also knew letting Audrey go would be even riskier. So, Abigail tried hard to keep her close. For now, Audrey still thought she was easy to control and wasn't suspicious.
Seeing Audrey come back in, Abigail immediately smiled, "Audrey, don't wear yourself out."
"It's cool, Mom, I'm good." Audrey handed over a cup of water and meds, watching Abigail take them.
Then she said, "Get some rest, Mom."
Before she finished talking, Abigail was already out cold.
The Getty Group President's Office.
Francis leaned back in his chair, head tilted back, deep in thought. After a bit, he said, "Pull up all my records from January to May, and cross-check the times I was with Audrey to see if anything's fishy."
Victor nodded and replied, "Yes, Mr. Getty."
This kind of digging was like finding a needle in a haystack, especially over several months.
"Wait!" Victor was just at the door when he got called back.
Francis suddenly sat up straight, eyes sharp, and said, "Get me the file on Audrey's bodyguard."
Soon, Victor handed Jonathan's info over. Francis flipped through a few pages, frowned, and said, "This Jonathan was a soldier?"
Victor replied, "Yes, Mr. Hernandez hired him for Ms. Hernandez."
Francis turned to the last page, which had photos of Jonathan in combat and his daily life. His fingers paused on Jonathan's intense eyes for a few seconds.
He remembered that whenever Jonathan was around, his eyes were always glued to Audrey. That look was way different from the one in the photos. From a man's gut feeling, Francis had a thought.
Francis tapped the photo twice and said, "No need to check the old surveillance. Keep an eye on Jonathan for the next few days and confirm something for me."
"Got it." Victor respectfully left.
Suburbs, some villa.
A guy in a black suit had his head covered and hands tied behind his back, leaning against the sofa. A splash of cold water hit him. Then the hood was yanked off, revealing a pair of fierce, beastly eyes. Facing four big dudes, his gaze showed no fear, and he snarled, "You're dead."
The four big dudes slowly stepped aside. Behind them, Francis showed his stunningly handsome face.
Jonathan looked a bit guilty when he saw Francis, his intense eyes dodging.
"Jonathan." Francis gave him a cold look and said, "You know why I'm here?"
Jonathan kept his head down and his mouth shut.
Francis spoke slowly, "Audrey's kid..."
Jonathan suddenly got nervous. Francis smirked; he had hit the jackpot.
"It's yours," he said, not even asking.
Jonathan shook his head, denying it right away, "No, it's not!"
But Francis was sure.
"I just took your hair and had it compared," he said slowly.
Jonathan's face went pale, and he bit his lip hard.
"Spit it out," Francis crossed his legs, his tone icy. "Otherwise, this kid, who’s tarnished the Getty name and has an unknown origin, I'll have someone get rid of it."
"No!" Jonathan suddenly got all worked up. Francis stayed quiet, waiting for him to spill.
Jonathan sighed, defeated, "It's mine."
Even though Francis already knew, hearing it still made him feel relieved. He had worked hard to win Harper back and didn't want to mess things up because of Audrey's schemes.
Francis tapped the sofa with his fingers and said, "It was at the charity event, wasn't it?"
Jonathan was stunned; he didn't expect Francis to know.
Francis said calmly, "That night, you bribed the banquet server to switch my drink, making Audrey fall asleep in my room. But when I didn't show up, you went in yourself."
Once he had the clue about Jonathan, everything became easy to piece together. They didn't have many interactions, and considering the timing of Audrey's pregnancy, it was easy to figure out.
The hotel surveillance from the charity event was also retrieved, and it just so happened that there was an issue with the footage of that night, making it even clearer to Francis. Jonathan must have deliberately messed with the surveillance. They had planned everything, but they didn't count on Francis's constant vigilance.
That night, feeling a bit dizzy from the drink, Francis immediately had Victor take him away. The drink wasn't something that could be detected as drugged; it was just a potent drink. So Francis only felt a bit hot but was otherwise fine.
Given that such things weren't uncommon, with many women trying to get into his bed, he left it to Victor to handle and didn't think much of it. Until today, when Abigail mentioned the pregnancy timeline, Francis became alert.
Jonathan, looking defeated, admitted, "Yes."
That night, when he didn't succeed, he went back to the room where Audrey was waiting. Unexpectedly, Audrey, to increase the chances, had also taken a special drug, becoming passionately entangled with Jonathan.
Audrey only wanted a child that could help her succeed and didn't even care if the child was healthy. So, she took a large dose, seducing Jonathan, and they ended up together.
Jonathan felt good about being with a woman he liked. After that first time, Jonathan let go and had several more rounds.
Later, when Audrey got pregnant and needed a paternity test, Jonathan handled everything, even behind Audrey's back. Jonathan thought he could keep it a secret as long as possible, hoping that if Audrey could marry into the Getty family, he would protect this secret with his life.
Jonathan suddenly struggled to drop on his knees.
"Mr. Getty, Ms. Hernandez knows nothing. She truly believes the child is yours." Jonathan's head hit the ground, bleeding, as he pleaded, "It's all my fault. If you want anything, come at me."
Francis finally understood why Audrey was so sure the kid was his. It turned out Audrey always thought the man she slept with was Francis.
Francis sneered, "Tell her yourself."
With that, he snapped his fingers, and the door opened. Audrey was pushed inside.
