Chapter 536 Oscar, I'm Going to Destroy You

Jessica groggily fumbled around for her phone on the nightstand. Squinting at the screen, she saw a message.

Oscar: [Jessica, I'm coming for you.]

Her phone slipped from her hand and hit the floor. Her brain felt like it got smacked with a sledgehammer, buzzing like crazy. Old nightmares came rushing back. Jessica wanted to scream, but her throat was locked up tight.

"Ah!" She managed to let out a muffled roar with all her strength. Then, a loud crash and a wave of pain hit her.

Jessica blinked, finding herself in pitch darkness and silence. She frantically searched for her phone but came up empty.

Just as she was about to lose it, her alarm clock blared. Jessica followed the sound and saw her phone chilling on the nightstand. She turned off the alarm and lit up the screen. No messages. It was just a nightmare.

She had changed her number ages ago, and Oscar didn't even have it. Plus, Oscar's dad, Alton Perot, had him on lockdown in Auroria. No way he could be here.

As her senses came back, Jessica leaned against the nightstand and slowly climbed back into bed. After lying there for a bit, she got up, still feeling woozy from the crappy sleep. She downed a glass of water, and then the doorbell rang.

Weird. Only Jasper, Harper, and Zoey knew she lived here. Zoey was in Auroria, Harper wouldn't show up this early, and Jasper knew her password.

Then she remembered she had changed the password last night. But why would Jasper come over so early?

Jessica walked to the door, ready to open it without a second thought, when the keypad beeped.

"Incorrect entry!" the door lock's mechanical voice said.

The person outside punched in the code again, the beeping sounds getting more impatient.

"Incorrect entry!" the voice repeated.

A bad feeling crept up Jessica's spine, sending chills all over. She shakily turned on the camera to check outside. A tall, thin guy with a red birthmark near his ear stood there, looking all kinds of sinister.

Jessica's scalp tingled. She pinched herself hard to make sure she wasn't still dreaming. She had just dreamt of Oscar coming to find her, but how could he really be here?

Before she could pinch herself again, reality smacked her in the face. Oscar impatiently kicked the door. "Jessica, open the door. Your car's still here; I know you're home!"

Jessica's face went pale. Her car was indeed parked downstairs. She hadn't expected Oscar to not only show up but also dig into her whereabouts.

Jessica ran back, trying to grab her phone to call the cops, but she tripped and fell. Hearing the noise, Oscar outside got even more frantic.

"Jessica, I suggest you open the door while I'm still in a good mood," Oscar's voice was sinister, sending shivers down her spine. "Keep it shut any longer, and my mood won't be as nice as it is now."

Oscar kept banging on the door, like he was using a belt or something.

The nightmare hit Jessica again, freezing her in place. She bit down hard on her arm, snapping herself back to reality for a moment. In a panic, she crawled to the table, struggling to reach her phone. "Hello, I need to report an emergency," she managed to say when the call was connected.

Oscar's creepy voice kept going outside. Jessica crawled under the table after she had called the police, curling up into a ball, shaking like a leaf.

Suddenly, her phone rang—it was a colleague from the studio. She quickly put it on silent. But Oscar had already heard it, confirming she was still inside. He hit the door with the belt, swinging it around, and said, "Jessica, you think staying quiet will make me leave?"

He laughed darkly, "You can hide for a day, but can you hide forever?"

Jessica's nails dug into her palms, drawing blood. Outside, Oscar's voice continued. "Jessica, remember our game of counting down?"

He laughed menacingly, "If I count to zero and you still don't open the door, I'll be very angry. And you know what happens when I get angry, don't you?"

Of course, Jessica remembered. Every time Oscar counted to zero, she had to crawl out like a dog. If she didn't crawl properly, she'd get drenched in a bucket of some nasty sauce. Sometimes it was ketchup, sometimes soy sauce, sometimes chili sauce. From head to toe, she wouldn't be spared. Then, Oscar would take random photos of her, print them out, and force her to look at her humiliating image.

Besides beating her, Oscar loved to mess with her mind, breaking her spirit and training her to be his obedient pet.

Oscar was twisted because he was sexually impotent, and he couldn't handle the fact. The first time he saw Jessica, he had a brief physical reaction, so from then on, Oscar saw Jessica as his cure, hiding his evil nature and obsessively chasing her.

On their wedding night, when Oscar couldn't perform, he wanted to play sick games, making Jessica have sex with other men while he watched.

Jessica could never accept that. Growing up with Zoey, self-respect and self-love were ingrained in her. She fought back desperately and accidentally kicked Oscar in his already less-than-functional genitals. After that kick, Oscar never experienced any sexual arousal again.

Oscar took out all his anger on Jessica. He found pleasure in beating her, becoming uncontrollable.

Jessica had thought about escaping, but after marrying her, Oscar took her to Emerald Isle under the pretense of work. It was a lawless place where people did whatever they wanted.

Oscar threatened Jessica with Zoey's safety, locking her at home, taking all her communication devices, and never letting her go out. He even told others she had depression, was on medication, and was emotionally unstable. Jessica often looked dirty, making everyone believe Oscar's lies. She couldn't find anyone to help her.

Every few days, Oscar would let Jessica call Zoey, monitoring the entire conversation. If anything seemed off, he'd quickly hang up and subject her to brutal beatings and humiliation.

Over time, Jessica got too scared to fight back. In a foreign place surrounded by Oscar's goons, playing along made life a bit easier and kept her alive a bit longer.

Every night before crashing, Jessica would remind herself she had to stay alive. Here, even if she died, Oscar would find a way to get away with it. So, she had to hang on until she could totally escape him.

Eventually, Harper noticed something was off and got Jasper to find her. Jasper pulled some strings and got Jessica out of Emerald Isle.

Oscar refused to divorce Jessica because he only got his kicks from beating her. Hitting other women didn't do it for him, so no way he was letting her go. Jessica lived in constant fear until one day Jasper told her the issue was resolved and Oscar had agreed to the divorce.

After the divorce, she never saw Oscar again. Jessica heard that Alton had locked him up and assured Jasper that he wouldn't bother her again. She hadn't expected that after only a short period of peace, Oscar would find his way to Northfield.

Jessica hid under the table, trembling.

"Five, four, three..." Oscar's sinister countdown came from outside.

Jessica suddenly rushed out, ran to the door, and opened it.

Oscar, tired from hitting the door with his belt, leaned against the railing in a casual manner. Seeing Jessica open the door, he smiled. "Baby, you're still so obedient."

Jessica was trembling all over. She tried to appear calm, telling herself that they were already divorced and she didn't need to fear him anymore. This was Northfield, not the lawless Emerald Isle. Oscar wouldn't dare hit her in Northfield; otherwise, he would face legal consequences!

Jessica said calmly, "Oscar, we are already divorced. I'm not your baby."

Oscar heard this and smirked. The red birthmark near his ear twitched, making him look even more menacing. His voice was chilling, "Jessica, you forget what I said. You were my wife for a day, and you'll be my wife for life. You can't get rid of me."

Jessica forced herself to stay calm. She couldn't be afraid of him forever. She raised her head and said firmly, "Oscar, this is Northfield, not Emerald Isle. Try touching me if you dare."

"Quite bold." Oscar suddenly grabbed her hair and pulled her towards him, viciously saying, "It's only been a few months since we last saw each other. Have you forgotten..."

He leaned in close, his breath like a cold, venomous snake slithering in Jessica's ear, "how you used to crawl around like a dog in front of me?"

"Ah!" Jessica suddenly screamed, breaking free from Oscar's grip. She then raised the fruit knife she had just grabbed and pointed it at him, shouting, "Oscar, if you come any closer, I'll kill you!"

"Jessica, you're too confident. I destroyed you once; I can destroy you a second time." After saying this, Oscar gave a creepy smile.

The next second, a loud shout came. "Drop the knife!"

Uniformed patrol officers arrived at the scene. Oscar raised his hands in a timely manner, shrugging in a surrendering gesture, "Sir, you arrived just in time. My ex-wife seems to be having another episode."

He kicked at the scattered gifts on the floor, looking innocent, "I came with gifts to visit her, and she suddenly raised a knife, babbling about killing me."

Jessica couldn't believe what she was hearing.

Oscar was a master of disguise, always using this facade to accuse her of being mentally ill. Sure enough, he continued, "Sir, you should take her to get checked out. She has a history of depression and mental illness. She was treated abroad for a long time."

Oscar's words sounded pitiful, but his eyes were filled with blatant malice as he looked at Jessica. He mouthed silently, but Jessica clearly saw his lips say, "Watch how I destroy you!"

Jessica was terrified, feeling a cold chill as if falling into an abyss. She was about to break down, her mind already imagining stabbing him a thousand times.

Oscar kept looking at his belt, smirking, and making small movements to provoke her, trying to push her into attacking.

Jessica's knife fell to the ground, and she raised her hands, looking at Oscar's puzzled expression. She started crying, "Sir, my ex-husband has a history of domestic violence. I already applied for a restraining order abroad. He just threatened me, and I raised the knife in self-defense. You arrived just in time."

Though Jessica cried pitifully, her logic was clear, and she stated the key points.

Instantly, Oscar's face turned sour.

Oscar hadn't expected Jessica to become so smart. The tricks that always worked abroad were now useless. He lost control for a moment, gritting his teeth and cursing, "You dare to accuse me! You've got guts..."

"Ah!" Jessica screamed loudly. Her expression looked like she had encountered something terrifying, or perhaps it was a stress reaction. She stumbled and fell to the ground, holding her head and muttering, "Don't hit me, don't hit me..."

It was clearly a subconscious reaction from long-term abuse.

Oscar became even angrier. He grabbed Jessica's collar viciously, "You're asking for trouble!"

Jessica taunted, "Oscar, you're nothing. Let's see who destroys whom."

Oscar lost control and choked Jessica, performing the smooth, practiced moves he had done before. But Jessica didn't feel the same fear as before. Because she was now in Northfield, a place with strict laws. There was no way Oscar could act recklessly.

Jessica squeezed out a voice from her throat, hoarsely saying, "Oscar, feel the law of Northfield."

Before Oscar could say anything, the patrol officers had already stepped forward and subdued the violent Oscar. Oscar struggled desperately on the ground, cursing Jessica with all sorts of nasty words, further proving Jessica's credibility.

Facing the approaching patrol officers, Jessica cooperated fully, getting into the patrol car for further investigation, while Oscar was taken into another patrol car.

At the police station, after taking a brief statement from Jessica, the officer asked, "We need to take you to the hospital for a medical examination. Do you have any family or friends you want to notify to accompany you?"

Jessica shook her head. She didn't dare tell anyone about this and didn't want to trouble others.

At that moment, a familiar voice came from the door. "Hello, I'm here for Jessica."

Jessica turned her head in a daze and saw a tall man walking towards her without hesitation. The next moment, a warm suit jacket was draped over her shoulders.
