Chapter 512 If You Want Revenge, Take It on Me
When she bolted outside, Robert's silver sports car was already revving up with Rosie in the passenger seat. Molly yelled at the car, "Robert!"
The silver sports car didn't even flinch, leaving a smug trail of smoke behind. Molly clenched her fists. He totally saw her, but he didn't stop, wearing that cocky grin of his. This made Molly even more freaked out, worried that Robert might mess with Kyle.
Her hands were shaking too much to drive, so she flagged down a taxi and headed straight to Kyle's workplace. In the cab, she kept replaying everything in her head.
She figured the Mitchell family would be pissed because of Adrian's humiliation and Robert's attitude, trying to cover their own butts. Molly had nailed all of that, but she missed one thing: Rosie. Rosie had a thing for Robert, so she probably begged her family to do something. From that quick exchange earlier, it was clear that was the case.
Robert was a petty dude, and he must've already planned how to screw over Molly. Molly knew his game; he wanted to drag it out and then hit her hard. But he wouldn't have that kind of patience with Kyle. The proof Kyle submitted using the Scott family's connections would be Kyle's downfall!
Molly stared at the scenery whizzing by outside the car and silently vowed to protect Kyle. He was such a good guy, had helped her so much, and if something happened to him because of her, she'd never find peace, even in hell.
The taxi pulled up at Kyle's current company. After getting out, Molly tried to head upstairs but was stopped by the receptionist. "Ma'am, I'm sorry, do you have an appointment?"
"No, I'm looking for..." The title felt a bit weird, so Molly hesitated and said, "I'm looking for Mr. Scott."
"I'm sorry, Mr. Scott isn't in the office today," the receptionist said.
Molly urgently asked, "What about yesterday? He was here yesterday, right? When did he leave?"
The receptionist shook her head, "I'm sorry, I can't disclose Mr. Scott's whereabouts."
Molly remembered that Kyle had mentioned during their call yesterday that he was still at the office and hadn't gone home. If he didn't go home last night, what happened during that time? The more she thought about it, the more scared she became, even breaking out in a cold sweat.
After handling a phone call, the receptionist saw Molly still standing there like a statue and said, "Ma'am, could you please tell me your name? I'll make a note of it."
"Molly Koch."
"Ms. Koch, right?" the receptionist asked with a rising tone.
"Yes." Molly nodded, not noticing the receptionist's surprised expression.
The receptionist opened her work log, looked at Molly's face, and then closed the log, saying, "Ms. Koch, Mr. Scott left the office at 1:32 AM last night."
Molly gave the receptionist a strange look, not understanding why she suddenly provided such detailed information. The receptionist smiled apologetically, "Mr. Scott instructed that if a Ms. Koch came by, we should notify him immediately and provide you with everything you want."
She had already flagged Molly's visit as top priority.
Molly's face went ghost-white. She hadn't expected Kyle to be so thoughtful, covering all the bases for her.
She left Kyle's company on shaky legs and grabbed another taxi to his apartment. After chatting with the security guard, she found out Kyle hadn't come back.
Molly's face turned even paler. Kyle had vanished after leaving the office. At that time, Robert was still locked up. Who could've done this for him?
Suddenly, a name popped into Molly's head: Zack. It had to be him.
Molly took a taxi to Robert's company, and surprise, surprise, no Robert. At that moment, Robert was out wining and dining with Rosie.
She specifically asked to see Zack, and the receptionist said he was busy, so Molly plopped down in the lobby to wait.
Finally, she saw Zack coming downstairs, looking like he was running an errand. Molly was about to rush over but then hesitated and stopped.
She waited for Zack to leave and then took a taxi to tail him, watching as Zack leisurely sat down in a café to sip coffee.
Molly let the taxi go and kept an eye on Zack. After a while, Zack got back into his car, and Molly, wearing a baseball cap, hopped into an inconspicuous car. Following in a taxi was a pain, so she had her assistant find a low-key car for her.
Soon, Zack's car pulled up at a club. After he went inside, Molly also booked a private room and went in.
Inside, Molly searched room by room. Based on the direction Zack had gone, Molly checked all the likely rooms until she opened the last door. There, Zack was sitting and drinking, flanked by two women.
Seeing the door crack open, Zack, as if expecting it, shouted, "Ms. Koch, come in and have a drink!"
Molly's hand paused. Since he had already noticed, there was no point in hiding. Besides, she realized that Zack was just leading her on a wild goose chase!
Molly squeezed in and stood at the table in front of Zack, bluntly saying, "You kidnapped Kyle, didn't you?"
"Are you talking about your lover? Why are you coming to me?" Zack picked up his glass, took a slow sip, and smirked, "I haven't seen him!"
His expression clearly said, "I know, but I'm not telling you!"
Zack said, "Ms. Koch, your detective skills are trash. You're really going all out for your lover."
"He's not my lover." Molly clenched her fists and corrected him. "But I don't need to explain to you. Kidnapping is illegal, you know. Mr. Perot just got out, and you want to go in?"
Zack grinned, "When did I say I kidnapped him? Didn't I tell you..."
He paused after each word, his tone dripping with sarcasm, "I haven't seen him!"
It was clear he was messing with Molly.
Zack just couldn't stand Molly. Robert treated her so well, and she turned around and stabbed him in the back, framing Robert without a second thought. Not only that, but Molly was cozying up to Kyle! Did she ever think for a second about Robert rotting in the detention center because of her?
This heartless woman! Now that Robert was out, it was her turn to suffer. Two small-timers trying to take down Robert? What a joke!
Zack spread his arms, resting them on the women beside him, and said leisurely, "Kyle worked pretty late last night. He really put in the hours. Do you think he's busting his butt to give you a good life?"
Molly pressed her lips together, saying nothing.
Zack deliberately sighed and said slowly, "What a pity."
Molly's hands clenched tightly, and she asked coldly, "Pity what?"
Zack suddenly stopped and said on purpose, "Nothing."
"What do you want?" Molly asked bluntly.
Zack crossed his legs and snorted, "Ms. Koch, how can you ask questions with such a tough attitude? No sincerity at all."
Seeing Zack eyeing the bottle of liquor on the table, Molly grabbed it and downed more than half of it in one go. The liquor made Molly's face scrunch up, and after taking several deep breaths, she asked, "Zack, is this sincere enough?"
Zack thought Molly was nuts, drinking such strong liquor so easily. Although he did want her to suffer a bit, he didn't expect her to drink two-thirds of the bottle in one go.
Seeing Zack still silent, Molly picked up the remaining liquor and finished it.
"Stop drinking!" Zack shouted, his eyebrows furrowing in anger.
Robert hadn't decided how to deal with Molly yet, and her stomach wasn't good. If she drank herself to death, he'd be responsible.
Molly staggered, weakly bumping into the table and then collapsing at Zack's feet. Zack's vision darkened, and he said, "You are a jinx. If you're going to die, don't do it in front of me."
"Shut up!" Molly suddenly stood up, grabbing a fruit fork from the table and pressing it against Zack's neck, looking like she was ready to stab him. The two women screamed and covered their mouths. Molly glared at them and said, "Drop your phones and go to the bathroom. Lock the door."
The two women, understanding the situation, immediately did what she had asked. Zack was furious and cursed, "Crazy woman, you're playing me!"
"Where is he?" Molly pressed the fork slightly, drawing blood. "Tell me, where is Kyle? Did you take him?"
Zack wanted to curse but knew that Molly, this lunatic, was capable of anything. "I didn't take him," he said angrily.
"Then how do you know he worked late?" Molly pressed.
"I've been following you for days. I know not only that he worked late, but also that you two went on dates. I took lots of photos and videos and showed them all to Mr. Perot."
Zack spilled everything, sneering inside at Molly's fate after Robert dealt with her.
Molly didn't care about that now; she only cared about where Kyle was. A living person couldn't just disappear.
Zack said he didn't take him, but Molly felt Zack knew something. Otherwise, he wouldn't be playing her like this, and his expression and tone indicated he knew something.
Molly didn't have the patience to test him further and asked directly, "After you followed him last night, where did Kyle go?"
"He was picked up by a black car," Zack said.
"Who!" Molly squinted, pressing, "Who took him?"
Zack was immediately displeased, "Am I your detective? What does it matter to me who took him? Should I follow and babysit him?"
Zack sneered, "I wish he were dead."
Given how Kyle repeatedly went against Robert, he deserved to die!
"Are you trying to scare me with that little fork?" Zack pushed her hand away disdainfully, "If you have the guts, stab me."
Molly's hand loosened, and the fork clattered to the ground. She couldn't think of anyone else who would take Kyle besides Robert.
"Get lost, don't be an eyesore." Zack wiped his neck and sneered, "Don't worry, Mr. Perot hasn't given any orders yet. I won't hurt you."
Molly opened the bathroom door, and the two women screamed and bolted out. She dragged her heavy body, trying to induce vomiting to get rid of the liquor, and collapsed against the wall, exhausted.
At that moment, Zack's phone rang. He answered, and after a brief conversation, he said, "Alright."
After hanging up, he walked to the bathroom and looked at the pale-faced Molly, saying coldly, "Ms. Koch, Mr. Perot wants to see you."
Molly's eyes were unfocused, and she didn't respond. Zack continued, "He heard you're very concerned about Mr. Scott's whereabouts and said he'd take you to see Mr. Scott."
Molly suddenly sat up straight, the movement causing her tortured stomach to feel like it was being stabbed, making her body spasm in pain.
Zack laughed, "Why so anxious? You'll see the person you're so worried about soon."
Molly followed Zack to a private club, which was lavishly decorated. Inside, she saw Robert sitting in the center, drinking water.
Robert's stubble had been cleanly shaved, and he looked a bit thinner, his features more defined. He was wearing gold-rimmed glasses, looking at financial reports.
Seeing Molly, he smiled elegantly, "Long time no see."
Molly had no patience for pleasantries and asked directly, "Robert, where is Kyle?"
"Have you eaten?" Robert asked, not answering her question.
Molly's eyes were full of anxiety, "Robert, I'm asking you, where is Kyle?"
Robert turned to Zack and asked, "Has she eaten?"
Zack shook his head and honestly told Robert that she had drunk a lot of liquor and vomited most of it. Robert put down the report and instructed, "Get some oatmeal porridge."
Zack left. Molly, unlike Robert's calm demeanor, urgently asked, "Robert, what are you doing now?"
He said he'd let her see Kyle, but now he was making her wait and ordering porridge. What did he mean?
Seeing Robert remain silent, she couldn't stand it and said, "Robert, it was me alone who sent you to jail. If you want revenge, take it on me, not on innocent people. If you had someone follow me, you should know there's nothing between Kyle and me."
Molly was eager to clear their relationship. She knew that anyone associated with her would be in trouble. She knew all too well how narrow-minded and vengeful Robert was.
Seeing Robert sitting silently, she became more anxious and explained, "That day was a misunderstanding. We weren't on a date..."
Speaking too quickly, Molly started coughing uncontrollably. After the coughing subsided, Robert finally spoke slowly, "Eager to explain, huh? Now you're scared?"
