Chapter 382 Don't Even Think About Taking Agnes

Harper's brain just short-circuited for a sec.

Yeah, she slapped him outta pure rage, but she didn't really feel bad about it.

I mean, Francis was the one making the first move; how was she supposed to know he'd stop?

With a frosty look, she said, "Francis, you don't run this joint. This is my ward. And I say you can't pull that crap here."

Francis saw her icy vibe and couldn't help but think about how she and Vincent were just now sweet-talking Agnes together. They looked so damn happy.

But hey, he was Agnes's dad. She and Jasper had tricked him, making him look like a total idiot.

Right then, Francis's face went pale, and he spat out bitterly, "You are accusing me?"

As Agnes's dad, why couldn't he ask about his own kid?

Harper might seem all fragile, but deep down, she was tougher and colder than him.

Maybe the hard and cold woman in front of him was thinking his humility was a joke.

Seeing the hurt look on Francis's face, Harper felt a weird pang in her chest.

Getting her memory back meant all the love and hate she forgot came rushing back.

Now, Francis wasn't just some random dude but the guy she had all those happy memories with and promised forever. Her head was spinning.

Harper didn't wanna see Francis right now; it just brought back all the bad stuff.

With a chilly tone, she said, "If there's nothing else, get out."

Francis's handsome face went ghostly white, and the pain in his heart was unbearable.

Not only did she slap him for Vincent, but now she was kicking him out too.

How could she do him like that?

Francis's face showed raw anger as he pointed at Vincent. "Shouldn't he be the one to leave?"

In a foul mood, Francis said, "I need to talk to you. Make him leave now."

Harper thought he was being ridiculous. "Why should I listen to you? You're the one who should leave."

"Why?" Francis, fuming, laughed bitterly, his lips curling. "Because I'm your husband and Agnes's dad. That enough for you?"

Harper's eyes went wide. He knew?

Her reaction made Francis's heart ache even more.

Seeing the two of them against him, Francis felt totally out of place.

He let out a cold laugh, said nothing, and walked out of the ward.

Harper stood there, stunned. She didn't expect that what she remembered not long ago was something he already knew.

Her mind went blank, and she wanted to speak, but her throat felt tight.

The only thought left in her mind was whether he would try to take Agnes from her.

'No way, not happening!' Harper thought.

Vincent looked at Harper's pale face and gently squeezed her arm, his eyes full of concern. "Harper, you okay?"

Harper snapped back to reality, glanced at Vincent, and quickly said, "Vincent, if Zoey and Agnes come back, please help me take them home."

After saying that, she bolted out of the ward.

Francis stormed outside, fuming.

After a few steps, he saw Agnes and Zoey coming back.

Knowing Agnes was his kid made him even more unwilling to let go.

Like it was second nature, Agnes ran up to Francis and happily called out, "Daddy!"

The warm voice sounded so natural.

Francis squatted down and carefully looked at Agnes's little face.

Thinking about the five years he missed, his heart felt unbearably bitter.

His kid had never seen her dad since she was born.

"Daddy, what happened to your face?" Agnes reached out her chubby little hand and gently touched Francis's red cheek, asking all curious.

Agnes's soft, sweet voice made Francis's eyes well up, and hot, salty tears rolled down his cheeks.

There was so much he wanted to say, but in the end, he just hugged Agnes tightly.

"Daddy, does it hurt?" Agnes rested her little chin on Francis's shoulder, mimicking Harper, and patted his back gently. "My pats will make it not hurt."

Francis choked up and said hoarsely, "It doesn't hurt. I'm just so happy to see you, Agnes."

Agnes asked, "If Daddy is so happy, why didn't you come to find me?"

Francis's eyes grew moist again, and he said softly, "It was my fault. From now on, I'll always stay with you and Mommy, okay?"

Agnes seemed to think of something and suddenly got a little mad, saying loudly, "No!"

Then she pushed Francis away stubbornly.

"Bad guy, liar. Last time you promised to take me to the amusement park, but you went to be with your fiancée instead," Agnes jabbered, but her words were clear enough.

She said angrily, "If you have a fiancée, why are you looking for Mommy? You're such a jerk!"

Francis was slightly stunned that Agnes knew the word "jerk."

The way she spoke was just like Harper.

A smile spread across Francis's face. "Agnes, that was a misunderstanding. I've already explained it to Mommy. I've only ever had one wife, and that's your Mommy."

Agnes's big, adorable eyes lit up instantly, and she said happily, "Really?"

Francis picked Agnes up again and got to his feet, saying, "Of course, it's true."

"So you're my real Daddy, right?" Agnes beamed.

"Yes, I'm your real Daddy. Now, in the future, and always." Francis was never a man of many words, but seeing Agnes's beautiful little face made him quite the talker.

Especially since he had missed five years of her life, he wanted to make up for it by giving her everything.

He lowered his head slightly, rubbing his forehead against Agnes's little cheek, and said, "I'll always spoil you and Mommy from now on."

"Daddy, you have to remember what you said, and don't change, okay?" Agnes mumbled.

Zoey stood nearby, not saying a word.

Zoey knew that Agnes really liked Francis; otherwise, she wouldn't keep calling him Daddy. Before, when others tried to coax her into calling them Daddy, Agnes would refuse them directly.

Now, Zoey felt they had been out long enough and was ready to go back with Harper.

She said gently, "Agnes, we should go back now, or Mommy will be worried."

But Agnes didn't want to leave. She had just found her real Daddy and couldn't just go.

She hugged Francis's neck tightly and pouted. "I want Daddy to carry me back."

Zoey felt a bit helpless, and Francis smiled, saying, "I'll carry her back."

He was even more reluctant to let go of Agnes, but he knew how important Agnes was to Harper, so he didn't plan to take her away forcefully.

Just as he turned around, the father and daughter ran into Harper, who had come looking for them.

Seeing Francis holding Agnes tightly, Harper felt like her world was collapsing.

Agnes was everything to her; no one could take her away.

She strode forward, took Agnes from Francis's arms, and said angrily, "Francis, don't even think about taking Agnes away, or I'll fight tooth and nail for her."
