Chapter 128 Regret

I had no clue who spread the word, but Daniel's public comments about me on campus quickly got to Zoe.

After class, I followed the crowd out of the building and immediately spotted Zoe standing there.

She wore a light blue dress, and her once short hair now flowed past her shoulders. Her creamy white leather shoes looked both ladylike and comfy.

Seeing her like that, if it weren't for our height difference, I might've thought I was looking at another version of myself. I was stunned.

A thought popped into my head, but I quickly dismissed it. No girl wants to be someone else's stand-in or copy someone to get a guy's attention.

Chloe Berry, a classmate, bumped my shoulder and teased, "Jane, is that your twin or what?"

Chloe had witnessed my spat with Daniel and had cornered me for the details, immediately showing disdain for Zoe.

Chloe vowed to help me get revenge if she ever got the chance.

I didn't expect that chance to come so soon.

Zoe was clearly angry and ready to confront me, but she didn't expect Chloe to be there. When Chloe mocked her, Zoe was stunned, then furious.

In front of our college, we couldn't let her act out.

Zoe quickly retreated in embarrassment.

Before leaving, she threatened, "Jane, just you wait."

This was the second time she said that. Her tone gave me chills, but I never thought she'd go to such extremes.

She wanted to ruin me.

Chloe said she'd stick close to me to protect me from Zoe, but we were just classmates and couldn't be together all the time.

Zoe's malice was beyond anyone's expectations. She almost destroyed both of us.

That evening, it rained moderately for about an hour.

Because of the rain, Brad didn't take me out for dinner but ordered food instead.

After dinner, with nothing else to do, I focused on painting.

When the rain stopped, it was already dark.

I needed more paint, so I headed to the studio in the teaching building.

The early autumn night was chilly, and the recent rain made it even colder.

I had rushed out, only grabbing a thin jacket over my short-sleeved shirt. The autumn wind cut through me, and I was instantly cold.

To get back quickly, I took a rarely used path.

The path wasn't exactly remote, but the thick shrubs lining it always gave it an eerie vibe, so not many people used it.

On this rainy night, not only were there few people around, but several streetlights were out, making it even darker and scarier.

Looking at the pitch-black path, I felt a chill. I hesitated at the entrance, but it wasn't too late, and the campus was usually safe. I decided to go for it.

With each step, my unease grew.

I suddenly remembered the time I caught Zoe and John together, and John cornered me on a similarly dark path.

Brad had saved me that night, but since then, I hated being alone in the dark.

The cool wind rustled the leaves, and the swaying branches looked like dancing ghosts, making my fear worse.

A bad feeling grew stronger.

I regretted it.

I turned to run back, but it was too late.

Two men, one tall and one short, were approaching with sinister smiles, holding something unclear.

Cold sweat drenched me.

"Aren't you scared to be out here alone? I'll protect you. Come on, let me give you a hug," the tall man said, reaching out. Even from a dozen steps away, I could smell their nauseating odor. "I love pretty women like you. Come here."

"She's really hot. Bet she's great in bed," the short man said, swallowing hard, his eyes filled with lewdness.

Fear overwhelmed me.

Last time at the Northern Institute of the Arts, John just wanted to beat me up.

This time, Zoe wanted to ruin my life.

The two men kept closing in. Their faces were unclear in the dim light, but their cruel smiles were visible.

Terrified, I tried to dodge and escape.

But as a girl, no matter how tall or brave, I couldn't match two grown men, especially since they were determined to rape me.

Zoe didn't show up, and I had no proof she set me up. But I knew it was her.

This was her revenge.

But I had no time to think. I just wanted to escape.

No matter who I gave myself to, it couldn't be these two disgusting men.

If I couldn't escape, I'd rather die than let them succeed.

In just over ten minutes, I was exhausted and fell into their hands.

The shorter man restrained my arms, while the taller one grabbed my chin, forcing me to lift my face.

When he saw my face, he laughed like a demon. "I never thought I'd get to sleep with such a beautiful woman. Even if I die, it's worth it."

The immense humiliation made me tremble violently, and the overwhelming fear left me in utter chaos.
