Chapter 449 Causing Trouble

The airport terminal at night was all lit up, but way quieter than during the day. Yancy stood there, looking all handsome and gentle, his eyes full of love for Mia.

That moment was like a picture, stuck in my head forever.

I remember Brad looking at me the same way, always there, just a step behind, ready whenever I turned around.

What is love, anyway?

I used to wonder about that, but I never had an answer. This trip to Silverbrook City changed that. I finally got what love really means.

Love is all about patience and endless indulgence.

If you truly love someone, you don't mind waiting for them. You know that the wait will make the reunion even sweeter.

Loving someone means accepting everything about them—their good sides, their flaws, and even the quirks that others might find weird. To a lover, those quirks are precious.

Yancy's love for Mia, and Brad's love for Jane, that's what love should look like.

Some might say I was confident in Brad, but how could I be so sure Yancy was Mia's future? She and Benjamin were crazy in love once, but they still broke up.

I had one answer: your partner's eyes tell you everything.

The way Yancy looked at Mia was the same way Brad looked at me. In those moments, nothing else mattered in their world.

When Benjamin looked at Mia, he was focused too, but there was something deep and distant in his eyes. That depth took away from his attention on Mia.

That's the difference between love and deep love.

I had a meeting with Elliot at the Geological Institute the next day, so I hopped into Yancy's car.

"Amelia wanted to pick you up too, but something came up," Mia said, giving up her front seat to sit in the back with me, leaning on my shoulder.

Yancy looked a bit annoyed, constantly glancing at us through the rearview mirror.

"Is she okay?" I asked.

I hadn't met Amelia in person yet; we only talked on Facebook or over the phone. I was really worried about her.

I tried calling her a few times, but she didn't pick up, which made both Mia and me uneasy.

When we got back to the apartment complex, we saw the security guard talking to some people. It looked like someone had caused trouble and got hurt, almost needing 911.

The path was covered with crushed roses.

An older couple stood there, looking terrified, too scared to speak.

A man said, "Young people these days, they really know how to make a scene, without thinking about anyone else."A woman chimed in, "Exactly, always threatening to die. If they really wanted to, they should do it somewhere private instead of making a scene in public. It's so inconsiderate."

Mia and I exchanged glances, curious about what kind of drama had unfolded to make these usually busy people stop and gossip.

Amelia wasn't answering her phone and wasn't home either. Thinking about what those people had said, I couldn't help but worry about her safety, so I called her again.

This time, Amelia picked up quickly. It was noisy on her end, with someone crying and faint cursing in the background. Amelia sounded irritated, saying she was at the hospital and that she wasn't the one hurt. She told me not to worry and to stay home, then hung up quickly.

So, it seemed the incident in the complex was related to Amelia.

In Regalia, besides me, Amelia only knew Adam and Ryan. Adam and Amelia weren't very close, so it must have been that troublemaker Ryan causing the ruckus.

I quickly threw my luggage at home, washed my face, changed my jacket, and headed to the hospital.

The hospital's emergency room was at the back of the main building. When I arrived at the entrance, it was just as chaotic as I had heard on the phone, crowded with people.

A middle-aged couple sat in the waiting chairs; the man, serious in a suit, and the woman in a luxurious dress with heavy makeup, holding a handkerchief to her eyes.

The middle-aged man bore a resemblance to Ryan, likely Ryan's father. His serious face showed clear concern, making him seem like a decent father.

The middle-aged woman leaning against him must be Ryan's mother. But I couldn't understand her; her clothes were unwrinkled, and her makeup looked freshly done. Did she really take time to do her makeup while caring for her son?

Her handkerchief showed no signs of wetness, and her eyes didn't look like she'd been crying. It seemed she was putting on a show of sadness.

If what I thought was true, it wasn't surprising that such a mother raised a son like Ryan.

Amelia saw Mia and me, wiped her face irritably, and walked towards us.

"I told you to stay home! Why did you come here to add to the mess?" Amelia glanced at Ryan's father, Finnley Price, turned away in disdain, and complained to me angrily.

"You got into trouble; how could we not come? What's going on? Did Ryan try to kill himself?" I glared at Amelia, annoyed that she had told me to stay home.

Hearing this, Mia nudged me, signaling me to stop talking nonsense. There were so many people around, clearly Ryan's family, and it wouldn't have been good for them to hear.

What was wrong with that? Bad people doing bad things, and we weren't allowed to talk about it? It made no sense.

"No, but almost." Amelia then quietly introduced them to us one by one. "The one sitting is Ryan's mom. She seemed fine when we discussed the marriage, but now it seems she was pretending. Before you came, she was acting like a madwoman, crying and making a scene, pretending to sit on the ground but not shedding a tear. If I weren't in uniform, she might have rushed over to pull my hair."
