Chapter 371 Get Lost

I kept nudging Brad to notice the nasty look Jenny was giving, but he just messed up my hair, sat down next to me, and hung out without even glancing her way.

Since it was still early, I kept drawing for a bit. Around 7 PM, my stomach started growling, so I had to stop.

Jenny finished up too and pulled out her phone to make a call. As she waited for it to connect, she stared at Brad sitting next to me.

Was she calling Brad? Was Jenny seriously trying to hit on my boyfriend?

I suddenly wanted to ask Jenny if she planned to stay in a wheelchair forever. Was it really worth missing her best shot at recovery for a guy who didn't love her? Did she really think she could win Brad over?

I had so many questions and no answers. Brad's phone, which was next to the easel, lit up with Jenny's number. When we work, we always keep our phones on silent; it's been a habit since we were kids.

Brad glanced at it, then went back to checking out my sketches like it was no big deal.

The call eventually hung up on its own, and neither of us looked at it again, pretending we didn't notice.

After packing up, Brad and I left Crystal House together. The office next door was already dark. We didn't even notice when Jenny left.

In winter, it gets dark early. By a little after 7 PM, it was pitch black. The campus paths were lit with warm yellow streetlights, and the students coming and going made the place feel alive.

Brad was talking about what to eat when we heard Jenny's voice and the sound of her wheelchair rolling over the cobblestones behind us.

So Jenny hadn't left; she was hiding somewhere, waiting to catch us.

Brad and I exchanged a quick look, seeing the frustration and annoyance in each other's eyes.

In perfect sync, we held hands, smiled at each other, and quickly started running towards the narrowest and darkest paths.

Jenny's voice soon faded, and we couldn't hear her anymore.

This was the first time we blatantly ignored Jenny.

I didn't know how Jenny felt, but Brad and I felt incredibly relieved.

I said, “We're openly dating, but we have to hide from Jenny like thieves. It's really frustrating.”

Brad chuckled. “Think of it as a spice to our love; it's kinda thrilling.”

I looked back at Brad, who was enjoying the moment. I was at a loss for words. Maybe this was just a guy thing; they love the excitement.

I said, “Brad, do you think Jenny is mentally disturbed? When will she ever get back to normal? She's always causing trouble; it's so annoying.”

Brad said, “What's there to be annoyed about? Isn't it fun to fight back together? We can't stop her anyway, so why not treat it as a game?”

I thought it made sense.

Mia's call came in while I was asking the waiter to add more dishes.

I had moved here almost a week ago. I had promised to video chat with Mia every day, but we were both so busy, it was hard to make it happen. By the time I finished everything and remembered to video chat, it was often too late, and I didn't want to disturb her rest. Our daily heart-to-heart talks had turned into Facebook voice messages, which were often replied to late.

Not living together made it inconvenient for us to have a proper conversation. This was the helplessness of adulthood. So, every call was precious to us.

We briefly asked about each other's situation, knowing that we were both doing well, which put our minds at ease. Then we started talking about other things.

It didn't take long before we mentioned Jenny. “Just talking about Jenny drives me crazy. Jenny is like a dog that hasn't eaten in ages, and Brad is like a perfectly roasted, delicious piece of meat.”

Mia exclaimed, “Fuck! Jenny must be going insane.”

I gave Mia a detailed account of what had happened over the past few days, leaving her speechless for a while.

Mia cursed, “Fuck! Fuck! Jenny is so inhumane. I can't believe it. She's so disgusting.”

I said, “Exactly, she's so disgusting.”

Mia and I laughed and joked for a good ten minutes. We set the time for our next video chat and reluctantly hung up.

Throughout the call, Yancy was so well-behaved it was heartbreaking. Yancy stood quietly next to Mia, remaining silent all the time, with a very sweet look in his eyes fixed on Mia.

I asked, “By the way, Mia, without me around, how are things between you and Yancy? Be honest, or I'll tickle you.”

Mia said, “Get lost! I don't have time for you; get lost.”
