Chapter 385 Destined

I watched Amelia closely. She wasn't lying; she really didn't know Adam. But there was definitely more to their story.

I had a rough night, filled with weird dreams. Some were familiar, some totally random, and there was this green snake slithering around that freaked me out.

I woke up before dawn, and everything was super quiet.

First thing, I grabbed my phone to check if Brad had messaged me.

Nope, nothing new. Just the same pinned chat from last night.

I felt this emptiness in my chest, staring at the faint crescent moon, thinking about Brad.

I whispered, "Brad, are you okay? I miss you."

Amelia and Mia were both amazing cooks, turning simple ingredients into delicious meals. But even the tasty breakfast couldn't get me to eat. Amelia was the same, just sipping her porridge absentmindedly.

For the next three days, Brad didn't send me a single message. But Jenny's New Feed was full of fresh photos. There were shots of her looking out at the sea, partying with a big smile, or working seriously at her computer. Every photo had a hint of Brad—his hand, a piece of his clothing, or his tall, strong back.

I couldn't tell if the photos were edited, but Jenny looked fuller, her smile brighter, and her eyes no longer had that scheming coldness. She seemed happy. Was it because Brad was with her?

Brad, on the other hand, was a complete mystery. To catch any glimpse of him, I had to rely on Jenny's New Feed, which just made me sadder.

Five days went by with no word from Brad. My heart was in constant turmoil, feeling incredibly lonely and scared.

After Lillian and I convinced Amelia, she finally agreed to stay in Regalia and give it a shot. These days, I went to school in the morning while Amelia was busy job hunting and submitting resumes online.

For the first couple of days, Ryan patiently came to find Amelia, trying to take her back. Each time, Amelia refused. She said when she loved, she gave her all, but when she didn't love anymore, she never looked back. Life got busy, leaving Amelia no time to be sad over someone unworthy.

Later, Ryan got really irritated. He felt he had already compromised and tried to make up, but Amelia didn't give him any dignity. He started blocking the entrance to my building, and whenever Amelia showed up, he'd rush over, trying to drag her away.

Ryan totally underestimated Amelia, or maybe he just never really got her. He tried using brute force, but Amelia knew martial arts. With a smooth shoulder throw, Ryan hit the ground, screaming in pain and looking up at her in shock. "You hit me?"

Amelia brushed off imaginary dirt from her clothes, looked at Ryan with a hint of mockery, and pointed at him. "Ryan, now you know how good I've been to you all these years. Don't mess with me, or you'll regret it."

I followed Amelia, who walked away confidently. I was seriously impressed by her cool move. I immediately ditched my idea of enrolling in a martial arts class and decided to learn from Amelia instead. With some time, I could definitely throw bad guys to the ground like her.

I held Amelia's hand, worried. She squeezed back and smiled. "Don't worry; even if he kneels in front of me, I won't get back with him."

I said, "I'm just puzzled. Is he so persistent because that woman manipulated him, or did he suddenly realize he loves you? It's been just a month, and he's changed so quickly."

Amelia shrugged. "Who knows? Whatever the reason, belated affection is worthless. I'm not a garbage collector; I won't take him back."

On this, I had no doubt. Amelia was as decisive and straightforward as ever. In her over twenty years, Ryan was the only variable.

Now, that variable was completely out of her life. Amelia was still the same girl I knew. As for what Ryan would become, she didn't care anymore.

I glanced back and saw Ryan had gotten up. He was clutching his waist, hunched over, stubbornly watching us walk away.

Yeah, no matter what happened to Ryan, whether he lived or died, it was no longer Amelia's concern.

After class, I called Amelia to ask about her interview results while heading to Crystal House. The project I was working on was almost done. Even though there was plenty of time before the contract deadline, I wanted to finish early and be ready to leave at any moment.

I was so engrossed in the conversation that I bumped into someone.

It was Adam, who had been MIA for a few days.

Adam rubbed his sore shoulder, his handsome face looking annoyed. "You're in such a hurry, not even looking where you're going. What's the rush?"

"Heading back to Crystal House to paint. What about you, nothing to do?" I was about to apologize for bumping into him, but then I thought if I wasn't looking and bumped into him, it meant he wasn't looking either. So, I decided to skip the apology.

Adam said, "Of course, I'm also going to Crystal House. Seeing you rushing over, I waited to go with you."
