Chapter 466 Eerie

I unlocked my phone, and the Northern Institute of the Arts alumni network and the National Capital University forum were buzzing with activity.

Comments were pouring in, and I couldn't help but feel a rush of excitement.

[Fuck! This Jenny is such a jerk, making up a life-saving story and then turning on people. She's shameless and immoral.]

[Can't believe she's my alumna. Makes me sick.]

[Jane, I'm sorry. I got it wrong. Please don't hold it against me.]

[I've always said Brad couldn't have done such a thing, but some people just wouldn't listen. Want to make it right? Then kneel and apologize ten thousand times, or it's not sincere.]

[Brad, I never believed Jenny. I've always had your back. I'll always be your little junior.]

There were already thousands of comments, and they kept coming. I wanted to find the first reply to see what it said and who wrote it, but it was too far back, so I gave up.

Benjamin, Isabella, and other friends shared the video files on their social media, each making statements and warning the online crazies who had been misled by Jenny.

The Northern Institute of the Arts campus network was on fire. Brad had made a huge comeback, his reputation even better than before, while Jenny, thanks to her own actions, was now widely hated.

The reaction at National Capital University was even more intense. Students were outraged at Jenny, and even Professor Evans showed up on the forum to vouch for Brad's character.

In response to Professor Evans' statement, the school issued a formal announcement condemning Jenny's actions and praising Brad as the most talented and honorable person in the university's history.

Ironically, Levi, who had previously notified Brad and Jenny about the joint business trip, jumped in to make a statement. He praised Brad's performance and character and expressed disgust at Jenny's baseless smears, reserving the right to take legal action against her.

Rafael, Yancy, Adam, and a bunch of others followed Professor Evans' lead, posting comments about Jenny's false claims. They demanded public apologies from anyone who had made misleading remarks, or they would face legal action.

For a while, social media was filled with voices condemning Jenny.

Jenny's carefully crafted victim persona was completely shattered, and she became the target of universal scorn overnight.

By noon, someone had revealed that Jenny was an illegitimate daughter of the Taylor family. People started criticizing the Taylor family's education, saying it led to the younger generation's messed-up values, and expressing concern for the Taylor family's future. This news was a huge blow to the Taylor family's stability. No one from the Taylor family had responded yet, but I figured they wouldn't stay silent for long.

The situation had spiraled way beyond Jenny's expectations, and she hadn't seen this coming.

It was clear that Jenny's dream of officially joining the Taylor family was now toast.

Three hours later, Yancy hit me up on Facebook to let me know that the Taylor family's stock was starting to tank. A bunch of shareholders were venting online, saying they couldn't stand by the family's values. They demanded the Taylor family take responsibility and issue a public apology, leading some investors to start dumping their shares.

I hadn't seen this coming. I didn't think Jenny's screw-up alone would cause such chaos for the Taylor family.

Thinking it over, it seemed like there were plenty of people waiting for the Taylor family to stumble; they just hadn't had the right chance. Jenny's reckless actions had given them the perfect opportunity, throwing the Taylor family's future into doubt.

Jenny had unwittingly handed them this chance.

At that point, the internet was flooded with hate for Jenny. The few who tried to defend her quickly got drowned out by the backlash.

After nearly a year of pent-up emotions, I finally felt a sense of relief, a long-forgotten comfort bubbling up inside me.

During dinner, Mia video-called me, telling me that the Taylor family's stock had hit an all-time low. The Taylor family had moved north and spent decades building their empire. Now, at this critical moment, any small change could be fatal. If no one could turn things around, the Taylor family's fate was pretty much sealed.

Jenny had not only ruined herself but also dragged the Taylor family down with her. I wondered how the head of the Taylor family would deal with her.

Whatever happened, it wouldn't be good for Jenny.

With the battle won, Brad and I were in high spirits and took the kids out for a celebratory feast, snapping lots of photos to remember the moment. The kids were happy, playing and laughing, and their joy was contagious.

I said, "Brad, let's have a drink to celebrate our complete victory."

Brad's lips curved into a beautiful smile, and he softly said, "How could I ever be a match for you?"

"Yeah, you never were my match," I said, hinting at something more.

Brad was momentarily taken aback but quickly caught on and smiled brightly. While the kids were distracted, he gently pinched my chin and planted a soft kiss on my lips. "You're just teasing me; you know that's not what I meant."

After dinner, back in the room, I reached out to insert the card to turn on the lights, but before I could, I was pressed against the door, a hot body against mine, and I was instantly breathless.

Just as we were about to get intimate, Brad's phone rang.

A call at such a crucial moment was super annoying.

In the dark, I could hear Brad grinding his teeth in frustration, which was kind of eerie.

"Answer the phone," I weakly prompted, nudging him as I switched on the room light.
